@illbushido305 It kinda feels like it sometimes.

You’d think with a game that’s main progression consists on cosmetics, the devs would have a higher priority in how many get put out every update. Even if the Dev who commented on this thread cares, it feels like the majority doesn’t have outpost cosmetics on the priority list.

Ever since the seasons have started they have upped the cosmetics which has been awesome. I definitely wouldn't mind having more that is for sure! The Dev said they don't want to introduce too much too fast; but hopefully they don't introduce them too slow either.

    My thoughts exactly.

Honestly there is still so many cosmetics mentioned in this forum alone that could be implemented; even if they upped the frequency and added them every patch that comes out it would still take at least probably 3 to 4 more seasons before we saw any type of finish line for known cosmetics!

  • @voshell There are so many cosmetics still missing that we already saw in 2018, makes me wonder how much more cosmetics were made in the past 3 years that are not yet released. I believe we only know about the tip of the iceberg, so you are probably right they could definitely release more of them, even with every update.

  • Looks like the blocked off staircase used to be or was planned on to be accessible in the pirate legend hideout. Even if it didn't go anywhere special it would spice up Athena's Fortune Hideout.

And maybe this is where it lead to?

  • @voshell Athena hideout upgrade when we finally get Captaincy maybe???

  • Hey does anyone have the Youtube video of someone with a bug that he had unreleased cosmetics?
    He opened the Clothing Chest.

  • @galactic-geek hahaha i lived

  • @limend Ey yo, is that just an actual ghost curse in there? Graymarrow's Curse?

  • We apologize, but for the sake of the safety of the community we have had to remove the media link. If it has to be downloaded, then it's generally a no-go item. That said, if you wanted to upload it to a regular content source such as YouTube and share that way, then that's totally fine. Thank you for your understanding.

  • @faceyourdemon

Guess my post got deleted But the original posters didn't... Anyway I've now uploaded it to YT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4ZMHzmgPy4

    You remember even older video?

  • @limend I remember in the video the hat of the captain who killed George in Wild Rose Tall Tale, forgot her name

Interesting. I will have a look around and see if I can find anything.

  • I have been surfing ArtStation lately, and I have found some really cool fan art. I just wanted to get your opinion guys, what style of swords you prefer and would love to see more of.

This is fan art by Patrick Nuckels

And thats one of the latest sword skins we got in game.

I wish we could see more swords like that fan art, and probably less stuff like the Sunken Sorrow weird sword.

    What do you guys think?

Maybe anyone have cool weapons fan art to share that you would like to see in the game?

  • This post got pretty popular on the subreddit a little while back and I think the Sunken Sorrow set is a perfect example.

  • @ambrossa The Sunken Sorrow Cutlass looks like the sketchy purple "bat" from Saints Row 4...

    And the Fanart looks amazing!

  • @faceyourdemon I just call it a pool noodle on account of the bright colors.

  • @faceyourdemon It reminded me of same thing the first time I saw it!

  • I believe since we still don't have a sword from The Killer Whale set, it would be really cool to see a sword that would look like the one from that fan art, fishing hook and line going through the blade and a guard that looks like a fish, would be dope!

  • @ninja-naranja You know what I would really like to see?

Warframe's take on fans creations, they made a whole event about adding creations that players just made and part of the money for every purchase goes to them too.

The creativity that comes from that is really cool, not saying they need to do it exactly like Digital Extreme (developers of Warframe) but some form of a place where fans can show their ideas and if Rare and us like it, it can become an Emporium Item.

  • @faceyourdemon that would be sick! Such and awesome way to add community driven cosmetics!

  • @faceyourdemon
I totaly agree, I would not mind at all to spend some money in the Pirate Emporium on cool stuff created by the fans of the game, especialy if they get a cut from it.

  • @ambrossa In all likelihood, no cuts will be given.

    ...unless it's by a sword. 😅

Yeah, Team fortress 2 did the same thing and it worked out great. The players get a ton of new cosmetics while the developers can focus on their updates and everyone gets their share of the profits. Its a win/win situation and i would love to see that in SoT as well.

  • I'm a little confused that ever since SoT has come to Steam we haven't seen a workshop page for it. Since hulls and sails are nothing but texture changes, those would be super simple for fans to make their own. They get enough votes on the workshop page, then the devs vote on it. If they like it enough, it gets added to the game.

  • I have nothing against user-made content, but being the stickler and critic that I am, I would expect a certain level of quality and/or assurance to be associated with said user-made content - in other words, I don't want 💩 or exploitative content (like invisible hulls or sails, or even obscene images, for example) . IMO, anything submitted should get Rare's rigorous seal of approval, 1st and foremost.

  • As a little proof of concept I guess I whipped up 2 pretty quick, rough sail designs. The most difficult part was actually getting a template, once I had that making the designs was fairly simple. If Rare could provide a set of template files (models and textures for the base sails and hull) then I imagine people could make custom designs that look good quite quickly. This is something I really hope Rare considers supporting.

    Ocean Adventurer Sails:

    Swashbuckler Sails:

  • @mferr11 you made names for them too? Well count me impressed.

Agreed. I would prefer to have what has already been created first and foremost; then maybe some fan made cosmetics. They could do something like what MHW did and have people submit the fan art and then vote for the top entry and implement the winners concept.

  • @mferr11 The Ocean Adventurer sails steals the symbols of the Brave Vanguards sails, as well as that of the Ceremonial Admiral sails. Please try again.

I shouldn't even have to mention what's wrong with the Swashbuckler sails following the above - I'm sure you'll figure it out.

While I understand that this is probably the template aspect of your post, IMO, templates defeats originality and innovation in favor of ease of use, which is NOT what I would want. As a teacher, I'm encouraged to not show my students examples of pre-made artwork, or to give them cookie-cutter directions or worksheets for the same reasons.

If you want to get pedantic, the symbols used for the Ocean Adventurer sails are not the Brave Vanguard symbol or the Ceremonial Admiral symbol. Similar, but not the same. But my post wasn't about sharing my unique personal ideas for ship skins, it was a proof of concept.

I'm a bit confused what you mean by originality and innovation, as hulls and sails are the only ship cosmetics (bar flags) that are just texture changes, no custom models. They're the least original or innovative.

Maybe we're meaning two different things, but I don't see how providing players with models and textures (a template) would defeat originality.

I hope that because I've used symbols that already exist (I just searched up 'Sea of Thieves iconography") you don't think that when I say template I mean a bunch of already made symbols and sail colours. That's not what I mean at all. I just mean the models and textures for the basic white sails and default hull.

  • @galactic-geek glad you’re not my teacher. That’s pretty picky for a proof of concept post. I’d even go as far to say that was a little rude.

  • @galactic-geek Yeah man that was my idea like in Warframe, they let people create cosmetics but they dont just publish them.... they are being checked and even if there are no issues with it Rare will use only couple of em.

Same for Team Fortress 2 Dota and many more games do that.

The teacher bit isn't a me thing - that's a pretty universal thing; almost every school I have taught at has stipulations like that built into their policies/curriculum. They're trying to move away from churning out the factory workers / office drones of old who simply know how how to follow directions.
