I am getting a bit more into the new story...but there is one thing I really want to beg of you.
Please, when the time comes, do not give everyone a participation trophy. Do not give them the title "Hunter of the Shrouded Ghost."
I do not have that title and want to earn it organically. Please please please keep that seperate from the story.
@galactic-geek I'm totes ok with that lol. It would be like Pinocchio. One of the places I visited when I was younger had one of the biggest ball pits...to go in, you entered through the mouth of the whale. It was pretty neat...so that's the closest I have ever been to being inside the belly of a beast.
But you know...before it becomes a thing...I don't want the title. I want to earn it organically. A different title would be nice.

I wouldn't worry too much. Rare knows how much people covet that title, they won't just give it away as part of the adventure. Instead, I think what will happen is that we will indeed fight Ghost, yes, but we won't land a fatal blow on the beast. We know that Shrouded Ghost somehow ate the Veil of the Ancients at SOME point (that's probably why it's so rare, it literally has the ability to travel between worlds due to the masks power). I bet we will have to work with Merrick in order to summon it, and try to get it to spit up the mask, or something.
What I would LOVE is for us to have to get "eaten" by the Shrouded Ghost, and we have to search its belly for the mask, then have it spit us out or something, haha.

I would agree with a lot of people here. I think we may get a title to go along with Chapter three's adventure, and it may even refer to the Shrouded Ghost. However, I don't think it would be "Hunter of the Shrouded Ghost."
On a side note, I think being able to get eaten by the Shrouded Ghost would be unironically cool. I understand the Pinocchio reference, but if we were to get eaten, I would love if Rare took the time to reference Clanker.
Based on the Adventure title for #3 visible in the game, and mentions of the Shrouded Ghost in the adventures, there is a good chance that we will be fighting the Shrouded Ghost as part of the adventure.
However they also recently changed the text on the Megalodon commendations to specifically say "chance encounter" which implies that you need to encounter them randomly and not through a forced spawn so if we do end up fighting one for the Adventure it will likely not count towards the commendations.
Very much agreed. I don't want this to be a gimme... let that be an elusive thing, that's one of the greatest thing this game has going for it - long-term goals and challenges that you can't cheese!

Hmm, interesting. I did not know that. At least they are paying attention to the details...
Even if we do fight the Shrouded Ghost, I'd prefer we don't "win" (kill it.) Even better if we just experience it, confirming the legend is real... and our hunt on the open seas remains. :)

I'm not sure of what all Rare has in store. I just want to stamp it out before it becomes a thing. Maybe I am indeed overthinking it, but I think the vast majority of us would much rather encounter the rarity on the open seas than be handed a commendation in the story that was previously earned by a random encounter. I'm not saying that it will or it won't. I'm just saying, please don't let that happen is all đ
@almtychcknpoo most likely it'll be a slight different title to distinguish the adventure title from the luck based one. Something like "Seeker of the Shrouded Ghost" or "Discoverer of the Shrouded Ghost"

I hope so. Rare has thrown a few curveballs though so we don't know what their intent is behind the encounter yet. I'd be ok with a different title. I want to earn the legacy title by a chance encounter as opposed to the story.

@wolfmanbush really ? the shrouded ghost is a nice little trinket if you get it but "tremendous for longevity" ? that only makes sense if you think people are still playing in the hopes of winning the lottery and those that have won it still play to show the title off. neither of which you will ever be able to convince me of.
rare has done alot lately in giving out cosmetics and titles to people that dont deserve it (partnered streamers getting given the goodboy set despite never being in arena) that giving out a title that was previously hard to get will come as a shock to no one. if your still playing knowing that there are people playing the game that literally get handed everything they want without having to do a single thing towards it then peoples line in the sand that would make them quit or stop playing as much has been and gone

shrouded ghost and legendary hunter are passive incentives for getting through long stretches of monotonous and frustrating experiences
Checking for fish and hunting the ghost wasn't just helpful to me, it's helpful to a lot of people.
Eventually the fish get found and all that is left is the ghost. Take the significance of that hunt away and what is it replaced with? There is nothing to hunt for those that have been dedicated to adventure for years.
Don't hand the title out I agree entirely
But the games current trajectory sees them handing out every commendation in existence for free. Half of them are completely trivial and another half are literally impossible to achieve (100 chest of sorrows, 50 wood crates ?!?!?!?)
The SG one though, is doable. It's really rare, but by the time you have every other meg commendation you will probably have the SG one. The only change they need to make is to make the legendary hunter one only have 1 grade.

I mean this is something that Rare has been struggling with anyways. Many streamers have been complaining about servers being dead and the spice not being around...sure the odds are small...but why hand out something that isn't earned? Something that has been in the game for a very long time even...like everything else...either you get it or you don't. Oh well. I want to earn it the way everyone else has. I don't want it handed to me.

@almtychcknpoo i didn't say they should i was replying to the other person pointing out that getting or not getting the shrouded ghost literally has 0 effect on if people play or dont play this game. and also that rare isn't immune to just handing out free stuff to people that haven't earned it.

Look at it this way, everyone - it's only for a 2-week long Adventure. That means there will still be plenty of pirates who miss it and will endlessly complain about it later. đ
