The Bald Lady Mystery. What is her purpose? Why is Crook's Hollow Haunted?

  • Few years back, players wait at Crook's Hollow till nightfall and things get spooky with "eerie noises" and "sounds of footsteps in the sand" and reported appearances of a bald woman standing far away from our character, and is possibly the source of the island being haunted.

This kind of phenomenon is still happening and I scratch my head in wonder about why she's still around, not having any importance to the game except being creepy. Even one dev update video from long ago talked about if there was in fact a Bald Lady wandering the island, only for the video to glitch out and reveal the woman on screen for a slight second. This implies the devs know about the character and are being mysterious about it.

Could she have a role to play in the Lore of SoT? A Tall Tale? Next Halloween event? We might never know for sure.

  • She is proably one of the ancients. Your pets freak out when the Noises happen too.

I dont get creeped out by her as I can just yell Wild Henry's name if I ever need help ;)

  • Whatever they are planning to do with crooks hollow, i hope they wrap it up soon cuz i’m tired of having to wait out the night before going onto that island for whatever voyage i’m doing, I don’t do well with horror games so even hearing the spooky noises and footsteps around me is just too much.

Just yell for Wild Henry XD

  • Unfortunately for the bald lady I was desensitized at a very young age to both creepy and haunting by repeatedly watching Lady in White from 1989-1991.

I don't pay her any attention when I am there.

  • That is not a bald lady, that is Sheriff Shinetop from Monkey Island.

  • I have heard about this phenomenon, but am a skeptic, because I have never seen or heard from her.

The only thing I hear at night, regardless of where I am, is the howl of the kraken, precisely at 3 a.m., 3:15 a.m., and at 3:30 a.m. every single night. You can time it with your pocket watch.

  • I think this was a hoax started by Falcore that the developers leaned into by adding spooky sounds later just for fun.

  • @d3adst1ck I actually sail occasionally with two other guys that have seen this figure. They aren't the type to make stuff, otherwise I would be inclined to agree with you. I've been on Crook's Hollow many a night and never seen this phenomenon.

  • I don't believe in it myself. I was there the other day fighting a load of phantoms, and I didn't see any ghostly apparitions the whole time.

  • There are only a few certainties in life....Death, Taxes and Falcore making stuff up! 😂

Let's call them fisherman's tales and move on!

  • @triheadedmonkey
Did he make it up though?

    *Illuminati music plays

  • It was originally a Captain Falcore hoax. The devs added the spooky music (which plays at midnight) as an easter egg after that. Rare like to lean into the memes, conspiracies, and theories around the lore of Sea of Thieves, it helps them build stories and evolve that aspect of the game alongside the community.

Maybe they added an actual bald lady as well, I've never gone looking. But I doubt she would have any other meaning than just being a reference to that original hoax.

To be clear, I watch all Falcore's videos. He can be very entertaining and funny. But I don't put much weight in his theories, which are often scraped from community discussions anyway. Merfolk's Lullaby and Ancient Isles University are better sources for actual lore.
