Give console players ping and fps stats

  • Or....remove it from pc players, don't treat such a large proportion of the playerbase as second class citizens.

  • What does this improve though?

  • @burnbacon to know from the start if you’re on a less than ideal server, ping wise.

  • Would love this.
Then i could finally tell if im on Amsterdam or something else, without picking up crates or shooting/loading cannons multiple times.

As we are unable to choose server regions ingame this, should have been the bare minimum anyway.

  • Should exist just because others have access to that information, everyone is trying to create better experiences for themselves and this info plays a part in that.

This is as relevant to the console experience as the pc experience.

  • I'm a PC player but I've long been in favour of parity between platforms, where possible. The game is a cross platform multiplayer game, so features like this should exist across all versions, for fairness.

  • @tesiccl

Is that all? Doesn’t seem relevant enough to care about. :/

  • @burnbacon makes the biggest difference in combat, so personally id rather know if my session is going to be affected at the beginning than find out later on. The option would be nice to have, even if we didn’t equip it.

  • @burnbacon ah bacon's advocate. Do you rub your hands together when coming up with your contrary debates.

This doesn't require a reason, it's an existing feature I'm just asking for it to available to everyone.

So you think a better experience for console players is not relevant?

So I have a question; do you play on console or PC?

    Follow- up questions:
If you play on console, why would you not want a feature that already exists on PC and gives players there information about the health of their connection?

If you play on PC, please give a reason why you think console players don't deserve parity?

The ping display alone can help a lot in troubleshooting to figure out if there's an issue with your client, your internet connection, or the server.

    Examples:

    • a stable ping, but still stuttering - that's most likely a client or machine issue.
    • an eratic ping, or a stable but very high ping - could be an internet connection or the server. Change server or ask a crewmate/another player to confirm which. It's possible you may have connected to the wrong region.
    • a high ping on every server, even after a reboot - most likely an issue with your ISP or internet connection.

The FPS counter's utility is debatable, as there is seldom anything you can do to improve performance on a fixed platform (maybe helpful for knowing if stutter is frametime or server related), but the ping display is extremely useful.

  • At least if this isn't implemented, this post has reminded me of the block feature. I suspect my experience of the forums to improve 😅

Not sure how this would help the situation which you're describing.

  • @thorumsu it achieves equality either way

  • There definitely should be an option to show ping and FPS counter for console players.

While on this console vs PC topic. Why aren't there an option to lower graphics on console?

There are 5 different levels of graphics Settings, going from the lowest; Cursed, Common, Rare (console default), Legendary and Mythical.

Why not allow console players to adjust their graphics down the same two levels below the default (Common and Cursed), when PC players can?

  • I agree console players need ping to check where are they playing. Specially when you join to a friend who is located in the opposite corner of our flat-earth without knowing it.

    But FPS?... O_o
The FPS are used to know if you can do something hardware-wise or video-quality-configuration-wise to improve your experience. Consoles can not be modified (eligibly). So it is pointless.

  • @captthreepwood I'm less bothered by fps and I suspect original xbox ones would probably warrant not providing this but seeing frame drops caused by certain things is still info that is useful. Knowing that because of floating loot or port merrick your interactions are going to be inconsistent etc. It's not always about what you can do to optimise it
