This game is a shell of beautiful scenery. 3 quests that you repeat over and over and over and over and over. $60??? Are you kidding me? No progression system, no story, 1 enemy (skeletons) and nothing to do but the same 3 quests over and over and over and over and over. This is worse than No Man's Sky in terms of content and promises. It is literally No Man's Sea
No Mans Sea- What the heck is this game?
The developers didn't make any promises, the game is exactly as they said it would be, unlike No Man's Sky.
The fact that it has 'no progression' in the way that you want it (it does in fact, in you consider ranking in the 3 companies progression) doesn't mean it's a NMS scenario.
It's not an MMORPG (and the developers never said it would be).Don't confuse disappointed expectations with broken promises.
@szadkiel It would have been a game for me if they delivered what they promised. It was a big scam. Horrible. I can't believe you can sell this shell of a game for $60. It's beautiful, yes. Water is best I've seen in game yet. But that's it. Content (quests, progression, story, customization (not cosmetics) of player/ships) are severely or completely lacking. Would have been a great $15 game based on the content.
@raptorjeff it's true that the game has a lack of content but there are lots of differences between quests, u have more enemies than skeletons (5 type of skeletons, sharks, kraken, other players) and rare hasnt done any promise they havent accomplished, its just u that did not get the right information
Is ridiculous. I think the same. This game is very boring, the only purpose is farm and farm to buy cosmetic things for you or your boat that do not improve anything. I have played with 3 friends since it came out, 26/26/23 of reputation in the 3 companies and we have stopped playing for what is absurd and boring as it is raised. You can only farm to buy cosmetic things that do not give you any advantage on your boat. They should focus more on the pvp, more powerful new weapons, statistics improvements for boats, levels, armors, etc ... things that are worth playing for to be the strongest pirate ship and crew and not to buy me a wooden leg that is worth 15k or a blue sail for the boat. Although I have the feeling that none of this is in their future plans. They are only interested in cosmetic things that are useless, above all this for $ 70, absurd, as it should be worth $ 10. I do not give it more than 2 months of life unless they change radically.
But it seems that people who play this game are not interested in this system. People complaining that other pirates steal their treasures and sink their ship, they chase them, really? this is a [Mod edited] game of pirates, not princesses ... I've even seen post from people who want a non-pvp system so they can not attack and steal things ... really? we are crazy? Am I the only one who thinks that's ridiculous? If that is the majority of people who play this game ... good luck for Sea of Thieves ... a pity that such a pirate game with the right content has a lot of potential ... in the right hands ..
And people just keep asking for more quests, enemies, cosmetics, PVE servers ... that's the solution ... yes..xD
@monti2511 So tell me what you get (rewards) for killing skeletons, kraken, snake, or other players....nothing. Absolutely nothing. 5 skeletons...wow. That would have been impressive in 1984. PVP is a joke. You kill someone, they respawn, no penalty and come back. You kill them again. They come back. You kill them again....They come back. And you get absolutely nothing for doing so. Rinse and repeat. Everything you do to your player or ship is cosmetics only. Seriously...
Sounds like a you problem. Maybe the game is repetitive because you seem to be completely ignoring ship wrecks, skeleton forts, any form of difficult mission since you have no knowledge of the different forms of the skeletons, becoming a legendary pirate and gaining access to that lair. The way you describe the game makes it sound empty, but that's because you didn't talk about the entire game.
I hate doing the same mission over and over...that’s why I don’t and do different faction missions.
Oh and one more thing...just noticed you’re a new account, are you actually here to provide feedback to Rare and the community or did you just make an account after watching a YouTube review video? Coz it seems to be only one of those options considering you just compared it to no mans sky, which is not remotely related, they outright lied to player about things in no mans sky, Rare is actually transparent with players about where it’s at and what it’s doing
@krackenfood Have you played the game? What fun has to do the same repetitive missions over and over again to change the color of the sails to the boat or buy me a patch that is worth 20k? that's funny? All the while the same missions, find chests, kill skeletons or capture chickens, that's what this game consists of
When you reach level 50 in reputations within 5 years, the only thing they will give you will be more skins for you or for the boat that are useless. That's what this game is about right now. The game is super repetitive, do not make me laugh.

I was just reading, but w*f... yeah, u have forts and different types of skeletons but still... u don’t recieved any rewards more than items u can exchange for gold to buy... more cosmetics. It’s pointless and quickly boring :)
@krackenfood ROFL. Whatever dude. You must have only played Pong before this to consider that as rich content. $60 is a complete ripoff. This game is no more than $15 worth of content. It's a shell of a game. (Shell is pretty) but empty. $60 is a ripoff.

I've done all of that, solo and crew (obv except reaching rep50) and there's really not much more in it.
Skellingtons have barely any difference besides their one gimmick (splash, shine or avoid water) and all behave the same (aimbot you or try to run inside you to glitch hitbox!)
Quests are exactly the same, but with more maps per voyage.
Shipwrecks just provide extra loot to be handed in when handing in other fetch quests.Unless legendary status has a whole raft of additional mechanics, quest types, enemies, loot, cosmetics, actual puzzles, weapons etc etc, then yeah. He's pretty much seen the WHOLE game.
I find it fun to sail with a mate, and do a little pvp/voyaging, for 15 mins with my mate whilst we wait for dinner to cook.
But the game is pretty much empty and realistically, we could pretty much play any old co op game and experience the same, if not more!@made-in-89 said in No Mans Sea- What the heck is this game?:
All these people saying doing the same missions over and over again is boring are clearly playing with boring people.
We have fun every session with the way we engage with the environment and the social aspect of playing with good friends.Mate - the fact that u/we have nice crew to sail with isnt change the fact that still were doing same thing more and more AND even with my funny friends - cant stand more than hour or two. Thats sad tbh :/
@made-in-89 $60....is way too much to simply have a social aspect of playing with good friends. Maybe your friends are worth $60, but the game isn't. Engage with environment? LOL. You engage with 4-5 things and that's it. It's like having 5 light switches in your house that you turn on and off and on and off and on and off and you call that engaging. Ok. Must be nice to have such a simple life.

You could make a blank screen with a chat box fun with the right people.@raptorjeff Ok seriously, just played pong before. You're LITERALLY just quoting Youtube reviews at this point. But, that isn't really the point so onto the actual debate. I can understand the problem's you have with the game. Personally, I feel 40$ would have been a better price tag, but still I feel the main problem you have with the game is that you were expecting something from the game which the developers never said they were going to implement. Rare has been remarkably transparent with Sea of Thieves during its development. The quests were as they advertised, they put in the content they promised, and made what is in my opinion, a really fun pirate simulator. I'm not saying that the game is perfect, there is definently a lot of room to improve, but if you go out, and do more of the quests, there is still more to do then you're talking about.
@mcdoll Exactly. My good friends and I like to play games with content and have the same great social aspect there. This game is a shell with 4-5 things to do. Was fun for the first 2 hours. After that...bleh. I could though see this game being entertaining for a little child for longer though. $60 dude

Lot of room to improve - keep it in beta. When u improve - release. Simple.
Another thing - if this game should be fun WITH CREW so why we have sloops possible for 1 person?! Just enable to buy 2 copies of the game for 60 bucks and share with friend, cause, as Im readin correctly - game is fun with friends and u cant even be bothered with all this lack of content. Just... out of words :)
@krackenfood I get what you're saying, but I'd say the devs have been ANYTHING BUT transparent.
Their AMA was as vague as could be, and they've managed to exaggerate an awful lot of the content.
Just listen to the wording of the customisation video or the quests one.
It's all implying that there's way more than there is.
The game should just be a straight up free to play game.
Even most of those have more s**t to do.@raptorjeff said in No Mans Sea- What the heck is this game?:

Your measuring PVP based on expectations of bog standard MMORPG with heavy heavy PVE with PVP on the side where they want to let players fight... a little but not go overboard.
@raptorjeff Yes, engage with the environment. Learn the map, explore caverns and caves, shipwrecks and coral, forts and outposts. There are plenty of places to explore and engage with. At the end of the day this game was actively advertised as a game where THE PLAYER MADE THEIR OWN LEGEND AND STORY.
IE - Its a ROLE PLAYING gaming. It's up to you to engage with the world around you and make something of it.And nobody made you pay $60 for it either, you could have had it for free by taking a game pass trial, or downloading it under your existing gamepass membership
Anyone who paid the full price for the game without playing the betas and reading what it was about and then wants to complain about lack of content will get no sympathy from the likes of me
@Hydrofox96
I disagree with you, they should not focus on PvP. Sea of Thieves should not be a PvP focused game, what we have right now for PvP shouldn't be changed though, balanced yes and have a bit added on. Some additional weapons and ship upgrades for your boat are probably as far as I would go. Although with the ship upgrades you would also just want for PvE, why not have more armor for Forts and fighting the Kraken. Which goes back to the whole idea of the game being PvE focused with PvP.What I would want is for Rare to focus on the PvE content, more varied quests, skeleton ships , a main storyline of sorts that you can do or ignore, fishing, minigames on port islands or other, deep sea diving, more varied cosmetics other than just color swapped items, slightly bigger map with more islands that are medium to larger sized (put more boats on one server if needed to keep the PvP encounters frequent enough).
I don't want PvE servers, that takes away a huge part of the game which is watching out for other players and trying to parley and see if another crew will be hostile or not, again, a PvE focused game with PvP elements, like it is now.
@krackenfood said in No Mans Sea- What the heck is this game?:
@sudacze And that is how you get cash grab games that never come out of beta.
And thats why i respect these developers who dont release unfinished games and clearly admit that fact :) And dont play „full release” jokes :)))
