I see a lot of different flags(signals) in Sea of Thieves trailers and in-game, what do these flags mean?

They seem to change depending on the sails in all the promotional footage, yet in-game they don't.
Even the last two official pictures of ships shown in the patch notes (legendary and the new teaser one) have different flags.
This kid @Ve111a claims his flags are different in game. Maybe he'll be kind enough to show us a screenshot?
Winding me up slightly seeing all these new cosmetics in each new trailer. I do wish the devs would be a bit more transparent with us. Especially in regards to flags. I saw a lot of people who were excited that the promotional pirate legend scheme had a flag that wasn’t white. Only to find out it was the same white flag when bought in game.
Just let us know why we don’t have control over flags in the game at the minute, when you intend to bring them to SoT’s and if there is any meaning behind their designs. ❤️
