Rowboats were talked about and then scraped.

When did they mention this? I thought they already had them modelled and tested. At least they said so.

  • @ant-heuser-kush he clearly said Remember When RARE said EVERYTHING in this video would be in the game come launch? improtant part is in the game come launch... and why would you defend this sure its comming but but but the game is HERE NOW!!!! you are buying something to wait for more... i just dont get it

  • @ant-heuser-kush said in Remember When RARE said EVERYTHING in this video would be in the game come launch?:

@arch-fable Joe said it in one of the Insider Videos or Tavern Talks. I forget which one, but I know he said they were prototyped.

In reddit at least. They did make them and tested them too, but I am lost to what announcement came first and what is the current situation here.

Getting the feeling they are too quick at eating their words. Ô_ó

  • @splatulated Yup. I'm with you on this.
However, I have seen bats recently.

    @ant-heuser-kush said

The game has been out over a month... content is coming. Content is free.

No. The content has already been paid for, the delivery of it is just exceptionally late.

  • @ant-heuser-kush said

They could have made you pay extra. You already got what you paid for. You paid $60 and you a fully working game. The content is not late, it's on a thing called a schedule.

LOL I am so glad you said that because I DID PAY EXTRA.
Sixty dollars American equates to seventy five dollars Australian at the current exchange rate when I pre-ordered. Yet they charged one hundred dollars.
Explain that to me and all of the other Aussies that were screwed over.

It was a digital download, no shipping costs.

  • @ant-heuser-kush they had 4 years... and in 6 months when its the same you will be saying its only been 6 months give them a year and it will be a diffrent game... maybe im too old to understand this. im used to buying a full game and getting that full game on day one.

  • @ant-heuser-kush said

Exchange rates have nothing to do with extra content. I paid $60 in the US, you paid $100 AU, people in EU paid whatever it is they paid, but guess what? We all have access to the same content. You don't get special treatment because you live in a different country.

OMG. Do you tie your own shoelaces?
Pricing for anything in any country has everything to do with the current exchange rate.
    USD$60 = AUS$75 NOT AUS$100
What part of that is so difficult to understand?

  • @splatulated said in Remember When RARE said EVERYTHING in this video would be in the game come launch?:

Remember When RARE said EVERYTHING in this video would be in the game come launch?

    No.

But then, I didn't really pay that much attention, so that's not surprising.

  • @ant-heuser-kush Yes I was charged AUS$100 for what equates to a AUS$75 purchase.
So in other words it is AUS$25 OVER the price tag value.
I also pre-ordered my son's copy so there is AUS$50 change due I'm still waiting for but will never see.

  • @ant-heuser-kush Don't tie the two separate aguments together. I am not saying we should get more because we paid more.
I said that the game DLC aren't exactly free, just late on delivering what everybody paid for. In other words more content should have already been in it at launch.

Then you said I should be lucky for not being charged more. This is a totally different argument which back fired on you as ALL Australians paid extra on top of the exchange rate.

I also struggle with this. I do not pretend to know how much time and effort goes into make a game such as this. But the way it was sold and represented is very different from what you get. For example the advertising picture for the game on xbox currently has 3 peglegs that are not in game, 3 articles of clothing that are definitely orange, and a frikkin VIOLIN. If I were to purchase it based off of this picture alone I'd be certainly disappointed. (about the aesthetics not the game itself)
I still cannot believe it didn't launch with a Violin and Rowboats...
Still love the game just wish I had gotten all that was promised. Not (coming soon.. maybe)

  • @ant-heuser-kush said

You must have missed the m**o.

Yeah, either that or the m**o was incomplete in it's meaning.

I never said you should be lucky for not paying more... I said you're lucky they didn't charge us extra for the DLC.

That may have been your intent but not what you worded. "They could have made you pay extra. You already got what you paid for."
Which is a matter of opinion that many take either side of as "lacking content" is still thrown around a lot today, since beta.

Let me ask you a question... or two or three... how much was Destiny 1 and 2 with the season pass... digital or physical?

I didn't buy the game you mentioned. I am on a PC and don't have a season pass.
I am on a pension so this was our one time treat that was meant to last us many years before I could justify such a huge layout for gaming pleasure. Being a Windows 10 game I also had to buy two new HDD to install Win 10 OS on them so as not to lose the content on our Win 7 HDDs.

It sounds like you only paid $5 or whatever for a game pass and think you can justify me being charged $100 for each installment.

I actually don't remember the developers saying that concerning this particular trailer, do you have a source link?

To answer your other question; Cinematic trailers often aren't rendered using in game assets, and the actual game engine. It's often outsourced to outside companies like Platige Images or Blur, who create their own assets based on concept art, or the games assets.
What we see in the trailer might not exist on any of Rare's own servers at all.

  • @ant-heuser-kush Holy c**p. I wouldn't even dream of paying that much for a video game.
Perhaps if I had a steady income that comes with having a well paid job I would buy everything. lol

You mentioned season pass costing so much so it was easy to assume that was your preferred method. Sorry for the mistake.

  • @ant-heuser-kush You are correct, I did miss that post. Sorry.

No, I don't blame Rare for that excessive charge to Aussies. I am sure it is Microshaft to blame.

  • @arch-fable hence why they say nothing now cause everyone picks apart everything they say, and get p****d off when they don't get what they expected. They literally said in a podcast they can't say anything without wording it very carefully and getting permission to avoid similar problems.

  • @splatulated Sorry for unintentionally hijacking your thread. Just replying to posts.

@ant-heuser-kush I can't tell you as I don't or can't afford to make it a habit to buy new games often.
The last I purchased was Fallout 4 which cost AUS$70 when released and I bought that from a store known to be dearer than the rest.

Eh... People need to give Rare a chance and time... In six months if nothing changes... then people can grab the pitchforks and hold Rare to the stake.

How many chances do they need? There are a lot of chances in those six months. I usually give people two chances, meeting them half way, but if they fail to meet me there, the third one which comes from themselves has them coming all the way up to me.

I think it's more about them trying to be punctual and failing than people giving them another chance. They try too much to be the one to provide when they actually need to focus on what the vision is that they want to provide first; keep it intact. Their props at every inside video looks almost as 'plain' as the game concept 'feels' like and the way they provide data thorough those videos... sigh

Well, let's just say that the disappointment there is real and I'm not talking about customer dissatisfaction. Õ_õ

  • @splatulated

You bring up a VERY valid point!

I remember seeing some of that stuff and thinking "HOLY C**P!" I envisioned a fully fleshed out "pirate world" where you met other players on the high seas but you also had adventures with your crew.

We've all seen the video where a map is read and the ground shakes. When I saw that I envisioned a secret door opening that lead to a tunnel which in turn led to traps and foes for my party to conquer. Instead we got covered in dust and some glowing text.

The parrot reference is what made me respond to this thread, as I am pretty much "W*F RARE" out of convo at this time. I always figured "Pirate = Parrot" and when I saw that video pre release I said "Arrgghh!" I think way way back, old school SoT (last month) when I first saw parrots flying around. I said "Ok this is a RARE game, these guys did Viva Pinata.. I wonder how I'm going to capture one of those f*****s to be MY PARROT!"

But alas.. I can not capture and train my parrot, breed it to make special parrots.. none of that. And my feels are bent as this is supposed to be a RARE game.

Bottom line, they dropped the ball.

There's a point when each of us need to question our level of integrity. If they can't speak about their project without giving mixed signs, there is something there that holds them back and they might need to deal with that first. Some people are more sensitive to reasoning and therefore can help them there. We are efficient at breaking the data apart the right way if we want to so technically they don't have to be very "adamant" there. If they treat us like a beast, then that's exactly what they get. It's all up to them really. Ó_ò

  • @tundra-793
Oh get out of here with your common sense!
Clearly, everything ever made in relation to SoT is gameready and up to production standards and should be in the game! I was shown an untextured blockout ship in one of the videos and I want it now!

  • @stadunator
So you 'envisioned' a bunch of stuff from thin air and then got dissapointed when the things you made up were not actually in the game?
I mean did you seriously hope for the ability to breed parrots in a session based PvEvP game? :D
Do you want to breed the horses in Battlefield too?
Not trying to bash you but come on guys, you gotta have some perspective and manage your expectations. Of course you'll get disappointed if you imagine things that don't fit the game design at all. :/

  • @nebenkuh What's great about your reply is that it's predictable.

Do you not think Rare wanted us to envision game play options when they put out videos pre release? Arrgghh Matey! That's the farking point of advertising isn't it?? To give you an expectation of what the product you're buying will hold? Because if they DID give you the impression of something and didn't deliver, well matey, that would be false advertising. But you could always argue "Well, they showed you exactly what you'd get" to which I'd reply "If you knew that back in December 2017 would you still be here?"

Every single person that tested this game pre release had the impression that what they were testing/seeing was only a potion of what would hit the market in March.

So save me your "oh let's all gather round the fire and enjoy what we have" ism's

  • @stadunator
Yes but you imagined something that was never shown nor hinted at or would fit the game in any way.

It's like watching a commercial for an NBA game and expecting that you can sit in the stadium and eat hot dogs and be on the kiss cam with your girlfriend.

i imagined come launch we would have sails we could punch holes into and mast that would fall apart ontop of the hull damage already present in game

i imagined that we would have quest that could unite crews to tackle them and learn about the lore of each island and how they fit into the over wall world

i imagined a fearsome kracken that dropped kracken themed loot after it was downed, but would be the most difficult enemy to down (it takes 2 minutes does no damage and has no loot)

what we got was a game that has just as much content as agar.io but it cost $60

  • @splatulated their actually are cannon ball pointy rod type things tho. just sayin not their fault you dont pay attention

No, I don't blame Rare for that excessive charge to Aussies. I am sure it is Microshaft to blame.

Games cost more in Australia anyway, there's an article on it that I read, which makes it pretty clear that Aussie retailers are exploiting certain tax and import mechanisms to charge more money. However, your point is sound that even with the inflated cost of games in Australia taken into account this one was more expensive than usual.

I also paid more than I would normally expect: €69.99. Which is a full €9.99 more expensive than most new AAA games in Europe. Now I have a well paid job so I'm not going to complain about €9.99 and getting all upcoming DLC free gratis sounds like a good deal to me but there's no denying that this game was priced at the top end of premium and that US customers appear to have had their purchases subsidised by other regions paying more. Or at least that's how it looks to the casual observer.

  • They should add the broken woods!!!!! It increases the immersion a lot and it is something only visual.

If it can be a problem for non-powerful pcs, just make invisible for them.

In Australia it costs 100 aud, which according to google is 76$ in USA.

Yeah, europeans had to pay 86$.

Also in USA you can buy some cookies and get unique content. Europeans and Australians paid more and got anything.

  • Considering the video is from 2016 I'm not at all surprised that there are things "missing" from the final product. Plans change and shift all the time. There's already an example of this with pets, Rare already stated that they have lowered the priority of pets in order to work on more prevalent things, such as content and different ways for us to play the game (Hungering Deep) which the forums have been crying out for since release (goodness, perhaps someone is listening).

It's a shame that some stuff isn't there. But I think it's important to remember that plans can and will change. In this case, plans have changed based largely on the feedback from the community. Personally I think that's a pretty promising sign.

  • @ant-heuser-kush Row Boats haven't been scraped, yet. The latest update was they have been testing it. Probably on the back burner for a while now.
