Taking a Break from SoT due to cheaters

  • 3rd time in the last 3 days we have run into a pirate crew whose ship doesn't take damage, is invulnerable to multiple other ships(besides our own) and a fort pounding them, the players score headshots very deep into the water, happen to only pop up for skeleton forts, and boats and players seem immune to even 5 gunpowder barrels. This has happened with 2 sloops and a Galleon. One of which seemed so careless about it he didn't even care when he hit rocks.

This is not to mention characters who can take 4-5 direct cannon hits or a blunderbuss followed by 5 sword hits and still be alive.

Little ranty, but I am tired of this c**p. I see no reason for people to cheat in a game with no leaderboards or progression beyond cosmetics. But it is becoming all too common to walk a gunpowder between them on their deck, blow it up and not find them in the afterlife. Or get sniped by them deep underwater, in the veil of night, nowhere near your ship, with no indication you were coming, and scoring perfect hits every time against more than one player.

So taking a break until the cheats are removed from the game. Don't believe me? Google them, I cannot link the cheats here without getting in trouble.

  • There is no such thing as headshots in this game.

  • @only-alexraptor *Perfect hits

    Cool now?

  • Crazy, I haven’t come across an unsinkable ship. I’ve definitely seen some ships I thought should have been sunk but the crews were able to save it. I’ve been on galleons that we’re triple barreled and we managed to save it. Just depends on the crew.

I’m sorry, but I highly doubt you’ve been running into cheaters like that in back to back days. The odds of that happening are astronomically low.

  • RARE should be more vocal on the issue of cheating, maybe shine a light on their internal approach. It's not like RARE can botch anti-cheating PR. (fingers crossed)

    Also agree with @Daddy-Sanctus

There are cheat programs I could go download right now on PC that give aimbot, wall vision, radar, lockon, cannon predition, evasion assist, health manipulation and more. Just google it dude. You can highly doubt it all you want but any PC player willing to risk their account can download it.

  • @daddy-sanctus Ahh, the classic "I haven't seen it so it isn't happening" argument. Well, a simple search on google shows cheats for this game and until an anti-cheat is implemented, they are readily available to the public. There are videos of proof of it happening, but it's those people who are just making it up.

Like any other game, when you encounter them it takes away the fun of the game. Add in the fact that there is no way other that recorded proof they are doing it so they get away with it all the time, and you have a situation where those who cry foul are ignored.

To be fair, after searching I've never seen one affecting the ship itself on any video. Even on the websites.

You'll never sink if shots don't go into the bottom hull. A crew with a dedicated repairer in the bottom hull is very strong.

  • @miles-traveler there was a post on this forum about someone calling someone else a cheat and then the guy popped up with a video showing his side of things and no he wasn't a cheat, I think maybe its easy to come to that conclusion when your stressed from loosing but maybe If you could see there prospective it would make more sense and I don't think there is headshots or anything like that

  • @raigagogyou @Miles-Traveler I'm not, in any way, saying that cheats/hacks don't exist. What I'm saying, is that the odds of anyone in this game running into a cheater is pretty low. And running into cheaters / hackers multiple days in a row is absurdly low. The amount of PC players in this game is a fraction of the total player base, and the amount of those who are actually cheating/hacking is extremely low.

  • @gloog I found two on the first page of google.

Also, when you blow up a barrel right beside 3 players, and then 4 other barrels around their ship go off. No they should be dead period, and the ship would sink. 5.5 barrels outpaces a 4 person crew of dedicated repair people. 5 barrels plus a ship ramming them while one is ashore and the other three should have been hit by barrels should sink the ship. I would have recorded but apparently I did not have Game DVR running.

Besides, loads of other cheats are available. Nearly any PC player can get an untraceable aimbot and treasure locator and player radar and more. As long as there is no proper anti-cheat like any other decent PC game.

But ya-know, the gotta argue mentality. Even though a simply google search shows the PC cheats. Including invincible players on a reddit vid.

  • @t377y Why? They are available to literally any PC player with a quick google search. You think the same crowd of people who ruin most other online PC games wouldn't hop on this game with no anti-cheat program?

Also there are videos literally showing people get hit with swords dozens of times and not die.

  • @daddy-sanctus You keep making these claims. Where are your statistics coming from? You cannot track most cheats without an anti-cheat which the game does not have. You are just making assumptions.

Meanwhile the proper assumption is. PC players hack nearly any online game they can without an anti-cheat. Cheats are readily available for the game with one search. Any [Mod edited] who wants to win every fight can download it and feel bigger about him/herself.

    Game needs more anti-cheating measures.

  • @miles-traveler said in Taking a Break from SoT due to cheaters:

But ya-know, the gotta argue mentality.

Noone here's very argumentative compared to some other cheat threads.

@miles-traveler @Daddy-Sanctus is probably sourcing his claim from the devs themselves, whether anyone agrees or not.

I can't find any on my phone that don't only manipulate the player but maybe I can't Google invicible ship correctly.

@Admiral-RRRSole probably has the best suggestion below. Its unfortunate.

Also I think we will get more answers on the topic from RARE in the coming weeks.

  • @miles-traveler Mate, we all know that cheats exist in almost every game so for the love of your sanity and investment, just record your game sessions.

You can delete any recorded video if it was a clean session and you'd have proof to present to Rare if you find any suspicious activity.

By just walking away is letting them beat you unjustly again.
Get that proof, report the offenders and beat them with pride and dignity.

Fair winds and happy sailing. :o)

  • @admiral-rrrsole

Unfortunately I didn't know about the game dvr being automatically off. I tried to record a clip of their boat getting 0 holes from direct cannon hits when one of us was aboard and they were being hit. Unfortunately it will have to wait till next time.

  • @gloog

"Noone here's very argumentative compared to some other cheat threads."

Except the usual "Nah man you just suck it ain't anything wrong with the game or anybody else. Just you." Arguments.

I'd reread peoples thoughts with a more objective tone. Nobodies called you bad and everyone's agreed cheating exists. Edit: Nobodies disagreed that cheating doesn't exist is a better way to put that

  • I know about aimbot and wall hacks for SoT, but not damage immunity, not even people that use aimbot are immune to damage in the few programs I saw in use. We are going to need better evidence of the existence of mods that make your ship immune to damage, especially because I don't think its an easy thing to program into a client, it would take some next level cheat engine table wizardry to pull that off.

In any case, this topic doesn't really fall into feedback, as it is more ranty than actual feedback, sorry mate, keep hacking complaints as direct messages to Rare. They'll look into it.

  • @gloog There is a problem in humanity of automatic doubt and argumentative nature. "I saw a squirrel cross the street." response by most people "I doubt it you are just blind or something."

  • @urihamrayne There is a video on reddit of players not taking damage from sword hits. And while I have yet to find a vid showing no ship damage. I have heard about it plenty and seen it myself.

As if the other cheats are any more excusable. Also all it takes are some of the inventory edits for item swaps to instantly empty a ship of water by constantly making the bucket empty.

Game needs anti-cheats. Simple as that. Any PC player has access to several options to cheats with little to no risk atm. If somebody doesn't think that is a problem they are either fooling themselves or using it themselves.

  • @miles-traveler

It doesn't happened to me until now but no one can deny that there are cheaters around in the game or that it is possible to cheat. Your Rage is totally understandable .

On the other side there are so many server instances and servers so even if that happens twice to you there is always the option to change the server.

  • @miles-traveler Well my friend, I'm glad that you have listened to reasoning. Thank you.

Psst, I am a PC user but I don't use cheats or hacks. Many of us PC users don't and when others do it ruins our game just as much as it ruins yours on a console.
It's also hard not to take offense when some people say "all PC users cheat". I'm not saying that you suggested that, I'm just adding to the topic in general.

I use a free screen video recorder which also captures sound. OBS Studio which stands for Open Broadcast Software but there are many out there for PC and I think most Smart TVs would have a recording function as well as the game's dvr.

I hope not to encounter cheats but when I do I will be ready for them with my game sessions always being recorded from the moment I load into the game. If we all share this same strategy we will defeat them as a team effort.

    Good luck. :o)

  • @miles-traveler "There is a video on reddit of players not taking damage from sword hits."

that is old, its a known glitch from players that log in for the first time, they are invulnerable while they are in the tutorial. Rare stated that they knew about this in a video recently and patched it out. Also, just "hearing about it" is not much evidence of damage hacks for ships, I don't know you or the people you talk to, I need stuff to be more on the objective side, ya digg?

Nobody is claiming that there is no issue here, just that this discussion doesn't belong in the feedback and suggestions section.

  • @admiral-rrrsole Oh I play on PC. Don't own an xbox. All my friends are PC players. Too many PC players think pointing out the advantage of keyboard and mouse or talking about cheats is a personal insult to them and get defensive, either because they are too tied up in console vs computer, are cheating themselves or fooling themselves into thinking it is not a problem.

I have no problem listening to reasoning. Mostly tired of 'forum people'. They tend to attack the instant you post something, often for no reason other than being aggressive. And want to deny problems exist unless it is the problems they have. Just got out of a frustrating instance of losing fort treasure because I could live see the galleon not taking damage from cannons while on their ship. Post here in ragey feedback about it. Get instant "Nah, didn't happen, unlikely, I know percentages for some raisin that aren't published like how many people use aimbot. You were just heated."

  • do not know about any ship immunity effect but the other cheats exist and I recorded a few of them with OBS and sent tickets in.

The problem is not actually Rare's end but Microsoft who has even posted up an article about it already and where the hackers are coming from.

As everyone knows through the gamepass people can play sea of thieves for free for a time and the xbox gamepass also comes with a trial so the hackers are just creating new accounts every time they are banned. Microsoft plans on IP banning the hacker they catch but there is not a very good reporting system in place for SoT so most of them are going unreported.

I started using OBS after encountering a two man crew using a aimbot and esp that even went as far as making terrorist slogans in Arabic and this person in no way was Arabic.

Oh and we kicked the s**t out of the them just it was annoying fighting a two people who almost never missed, scripted to shoot two guns at the same time, and could see where people were before they even got in line of sight.

  • @luneder "I started using OBS after encountering a two man crew using a aimbot and esp that even went as far as making terrorist slogans in Arabic and this person in no way was Arabic."

    that is hilarious

    Maybe it's more of a blessing :)

Overall, this is the most constructive cheat thread I've seen. Many good suggestions for what we can do.

Cheats suck, and they exist on the player level, even RARE has said. I just can't find any for ship manipulation which the OP talks about.

  • @miles-traveler Oh, okay. I can never find PC players on the same server as myself. lol
Get OBS Studio or something similar. It's free and doesn't expire.

High-end PCs may have an advantage over consoles and both of them have an advantage over low-end PCs.
My PC was a AUS$600 budget buy off ebay. lol That's probably worth US$450.
A real "kick-a**e gaming PC" NOT! lol
I have all settings down to the minimum and a lot of stuff, including loot in shipwrecks simply doesn't show on my screen. I felt that I had to prove this to my fellow crew member by sending him the video of our game session. He was amazed by the difference and excessively low lighting my game experience was broadcasting.
My FPS never exceed 20 and ping is always in the high 200s (260 - 300).

But one HUGE advantage console has over PCs in general is the wide screen family TV. My modest 19" is nothing to their 50-100+ inch screen.

I'm 56 with failing eye sight so all of the odds are against me. lol
You certainly don't need to cheat or even be all that good to beat me.

I just put down about 2,700.00 on a new gaming pc in USD. Before that I used a 1,000.00 laptop. It is where I put the money from my 2 jobs XD.

I am just generally bad. But I tend to know my bad vs cheaters. I get beaten a lot legit.

  • @urihamrayne still wonder how dumb someone can be to repeat three times a terrorist slogan that many suicide bombers make before doing an act of terrorism. The guy was on the ferry of the damned with me after we killed each other the same time and while hitting the salute emote three times repeated the slogan three times open mic.

  • I came across this the other day. I was in a sloop. And there was another sloop anchored off shore of an island. They fired a few shots at me so I anchored and fired back(around 30 yards from them). I unloaded almost all my rounds hitting them every time. Knocking the one pirate off his cannon so he couldn't fire back and then hitting them below deck I was hit once. I eventually sunk due to the one hit they had on me.(starboard side next to my map table) there is absolutely no way they could patch up and bail the water out of their sloop that fast. As fast as I could reload I would fire. And hit everytime.

  • Let's stop focusing on the word cheater and have a real conversation about the distinct advantage that PC players have. Assuming no cheats are used then superior PC players will feel like they're cheating. Equally skilled PC players will feel overwhelming and probably win out 80/20. The bad PC players look bad but seem extremely lucky and win about 60/40.

I get it. PC players don't want to lose their advantage. I wouldn't want to either. But that's not fair and no other game that I can recall in my 30+ years of playing games allowed this kind of advantage amongst its players. Worse yet it's the 88% ( and dropping ) of the player base that's getting the short end of the stick.

The tiny percentage of the 12% of PC players fighting against the option to disable cross play are going to kill the game. They aren't playing it correctly now because if they were then we wouldn't even see that there was a problem. If they get their wish then they'd continue to have their ability to grief the rest of the community. That 88% will drop and then there won't be anyone left to grief. All they'll have left is good PC players...who they should be playing against now. Then the griefer shark becomes the prey. How about Rare n**s that in the bud and stop catering to the griefers? Sounds like a plan to me.

  • @miles-traveler

    A) there are no headshots in this game
    B) the ship you were fighting was NOT invulnerable, they were just organized and on point

Most of the time people who cry cheats aren't experiencing a person who is cheating. I would honestly say that TWO people I have encountered in this game since I started playing were cheating. There was one who was exploiting in a way that I will not describe here because it is way too easy to do, using an aimbot, and obvious ESP. Then today we had one (some of this could have been a bug) who made ZERO noise when he walked and swam, would get around super fast, and was firing rapid-fire blunderbuss shots without ever running out of ammo.

The second person literally has 670 points on XBox, zero friends, ZERO achievements in SoT and 4 followers. It is pretty obvious what the account is being used for.

The people he was with did not seem to be doing anything off-kilter...but he was definitely firing blunderbuss shots like they were coming from a semi-automatic handgun with no reload time, and he definitely had his aimbot on.

  • I've been accused of cheating cause I simply play on PC.
My crew can sink a few ships at a time. All you need is a good helmsman, dedicated repair man, and some good cannon aimers. Plus talking is key. Lol
