Hungering Deep is literally unplayable at times.

  • Just spent 2 hours sailing my extremely slow sloop to T26 waiting and praying for a crew to come along. Used the trumpet to plead with incoming crews.

    WE'RE FRIENDLY!!! TRUCE!!!! ETC.

Got bombarded with cannonballs and sunk. I will never get to complete this quest because you made a STUPID decision to make it a requirement for a minimum group of 5.

The human race is terrible and cooperation is the exception, not the rule. Make it so it's a 4 man quest.

To me this update literally did nothing but change the title screen. What a waste. Game deserves to die out if all the content is held at literal gunpoint by griefing players who can't read.

  • @vendettaas try hopping on different servers the game is full of friendly people who would like to help eachother and you! and try sitting at shark bait cove instead of T26 and connect a headset it makes communicating easier and funnier.

  • Did all of that. Server hopped. Connected headset. Yelled into mic friendly. Did not matter.

Making this a minimum of 5 is the worst decision. Completely leaves it up to humans being decent and that never happens. Ever.

  • I sympathise. It’s a leap of faith by Rare.

Wait at shark bait cove. By the law of averages a decent crew will happen at some point for you.

Yep. I already did THD so now I sink anyone else trying to do it. Why? To make me own fun.

  • I feel your pain even though not at that extreme level but I have been trying to do the fight again since it was so fun for me but no one shows up, this can be changed if they were to give some additional reward to anyone involved after the initial defeat so hopefully they change this.

  • @stubbierbell598 people like you, bragging about being the very toxicity ruining this for others, should be banned for 24 hrs, 48 hrs, 72 hrs, then permanently. there's nothing to steal from them. you'd be on here bawling if someone wouldn't let you go find the books, but since you already have it done, it's fine to do it to others. nice ego you have there.

  • I agree with the core of your OP though I don't think the game should die out over it. If anything my feelings make me question my personal investments into the game. If the updates are going to be similar to this(which I imagine they will) then my schedule will most likely be one of many hurdles so I will definitely have to tackle this game on a more casual basis. I don't want the game to die out just because it didn't fit my mold.

I managed to solo up to the drum and haven't had too much luck in the grouping department but I also haven't had time to tackle it this week. I will be tackling that tomorrow which hopefully won't be too late...seems like interest in the event is dying fast. Find out then, fingers crossed.

I am in the same boat as you though. The event could have easily just not have happened in my experience thus far which makes me conflicted because I do like the style of this content drop. I understand what they are trying to do and clearly it has worked wonderfully for a lot of people.

The problem I find is in the fact that server hopping or external crew prep has become mandatory/the go to response. If they want me to cooperate in the game then I should be able to log in and it all be taken care of in some form of mechanic or other. One shouldn't need to sign up for discord, mess with xbox groups, create a forum account, etc etc just to experience an update.

Time will tell. This update has been interesting. We will see what they take away from it all.

  • You must wait in shark bait cow for friendly players.
And Rare must give prize to people to do it more than once.

Nothing wrong with it mate! It's called being a pirate! I see ship... I sink ship! They can fight back ya know.

  • @stubbierbell598 Although you are specifically targeting players trying to enjoy new content - for the sake of interrupting them.

    Your declaration, not mine.

I fail to see the enjoyment in this - for you or for them... You sir, are only adding toxicity.

I will gladly sail with a group, diplomacy is attainable - sometimes we just have to change the way we’re going at it.

  • @baconwrappedsac I enjoying sinking ships... if everyone is meeting in a certain spot then where better to sink em??? Nothing toxic.. just being a pirate.

When you are nice nice things happen. I had no issues and I'm a PvPer through and through. I was kind and used the tools to communicate and was able to complete it no problem and have been helping others as well.

  • @vendettaas It can be done, play at 8 to 11 pm (USA time) You'll have full servers all the time, and it's not that difficult to find nice people, I have done the meg 3 times till now, each time with at least 10 pirates working together.

So do i but I'm not a troll.... What you are doing is trolling and acting like a child. "I did it you cant nenenenene". Grow up and treat others the way you want to be treated . also to reiterate this is coming from Boarding party Ve111a who sinks any galleon he sees and kills with our remorse to those that cross him, aka full pvp, Even I'm not that much of a rude person......

  • @stubbierbell598 we love running into you guys, trash talk in beginning and after 3rd time sunk we hear no in game talk comming from the ship. But I still send a message to them later saying gg. Too bad ppl aren't able to load up in same servers to do battle. Be a fun war

I'm just honest about it mate... I don't taunt or even talk to my victims... Just slay and sink. I be a cold ruthless pirate. I am doing nothing wrong.

  • @stubbierbell598 I stand corrected - shooting fish in a barrel for no reward other than to say that you did it. Cool story bro. Same concept as pulling wings off a fly.

We all get it, it’s a pirate game. It requires cunning thought, forethought and preparedness. With all of the griefing that occurs, you are doing nothing but adding to it with your actions.

Everyone plays differently, including myself. Sometimes alone, sometimes grouped. Sometimes aggressive, sometimes passive. One of the best parts of this game is tactics and sharing new ones.

I have no problem setting up a blockade to patrol and create a buffer for people wanting to complete the quest. I also have no problem in sinking someone who is a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Many variables here, and now you have an even bigger target on your back from your declarations.

    See you around.

Enjoy yourself, in your reduced world view.

Yeah but it's not - Pirates sank ships very rarely, usually they would board, threaten and steal. Merchants would turn over their loot to buy freedom.

You gain nothing by sinking them (but the pleasure that you've p*e'd in their coffee), and risk only inconvenience if they sink you, cos I garuantee you aren't ponying up to the battle with a bellyful of booty.

It's not big, it's not clever.

Fortunately the vast amount of crews I've encountered since THD dropped aren't like you

Everyone thinks they are the big fish until they run into a crew like mine and are reminded quickly.... what you are doing is intentionally trolling and that's the type of childish mentality I was worried about from this DLC..... It's ok In my servers we are protecting Merrick and his Pirates so if you try to cause grief wellllll..... grief causes grief.

  • @ve111a
Dont let stubbs bother ya mate. For every pirate like him there is one like me who spends his days at sharkbait helping ppl get this done. And sinking anyone who tries to bother the ppl who are doin the quest. I love the pvp, so why not sink some ships while i provide protection.

This is my mentality 100% we spent yesterday helping people achieve this goal. I'd love to see his ship appear thinking he is top dog and start attacking, Moments like that I live for in sea of theives. Its always nicer sinking the "tough guys"

  • This is why I got the campaign done on the first day. It was an oversight by Rare, who made cooperation with other crews mandatory to access the new content, but failed to incentivise pirates who have already finished it to run through it again. This could be easily fixed by spawning loot from the beast's corpse. This would also set the stage for some pretty tense betrayals and PvP action during and after the fight with the Meg.

  • @vendettaas said in Hungering Deep is literally unplayable at times.:

    Patently false statement.

    My experience.

Spawned into a random galleon. in the midst of battle with another galleon. Literally lasted five seconds and shot. Respawned at outpost. Told the crew I was looking to do the Hungering deep quest. They informed me they had already done it twice. Sent me off with some good tips.

Went random Sloop. Met a cool dude fairly new to the game. Helped with a couple chests and convinced him to do the quest. Stocked up on planks (good tip) and everything else on the way to Shark Bait Cove. Met a Galleon and two sloops on the way. Made friends with all of them! Everyone wanted the same thing. Armada to the cove!

From there it was trial and error and a lot of boat hopping with the one guy who had a drum keeping that beat going. The rest is crunchy, messy, megaladon history. I had a blast!

Sorry you had a bad experience, but you will find plenty of nice people if you persist.

I think you should be able to earn all the ships customisations by redo'ing the quest. So you'd do it at least 4 times to get the set.

The fact YOU are the only one who thinks this is okay should give you pause but I doubt it will. Just because you finished the event does not give you the right to prevent others from doing the same.

  • @stubbierbell598
Despite my bad luck thus far in this event as well as my questioning of their decision to do a coop event in this fashion I actually side with you on this one. I don't blame any of the people that have attacked me over trying to do this event. It is their right to do so and if people are playing at this point and still think pvpers magically have less rights then pve then they really REALLY should move on. It's just SoT common sense at this point.

The pvp/grief line will always be a gray area as you would have to known all sides perspectives of the situation but I look at it this way:

As the game stands if there is a ship at an island you need then you go in guns blazing or wide eyed hopeful or not at all but no matter your approach Caution is King out there...always. Just because they added an event to work together doesn't change that fact. Hungering Deep doesn't automatically make any ship at those locations friendly.

My personal dilemma with this content is in the fact that the developers know this and chose to implement the event in this fashion and in a way potentially cut out those not pvp savy. No real complaint per say but I look at it and scratch my head a bit.

I don't have to agree with your tactics but I'll certainly drink to your right to use them.

  • @vendettaas LOL ! Posts like this. Exactly why I come to these forums

  • @vendettaas Here is a tale about THD

  • Defo hang around shark bait cove as you need to carry the song from there anyway... You'll meet loads of like minded pirates willing to crew up and take on the beast! We ended up doing it twice last night with different crews... The second run was with 2 full galleons and a full sloop... Be patient and you'll find others :)

Me crew attacks everyone. We lose some n win some but 99% of the time we attack. PC player or pirate legend. Experienced or first time playing. I don't care. The game gives no one an advantage! If you let ye guard down to talk to some crumb on the beach then that's your fault. I used to want safezones! Still do! But so long as there are none then no excuse!!

I've made the decision that any ship at a location linked to THD will be left alone. I will stop and ask if they need help, if they attack I will fight. Some people are having a hard time getting help and some players just don't care. I've done it twice and have yet to come across a bad pirate while doing it.

I can almost smell the bravado from here...

  • @vendettaas I did the quest on the first day and could easily form fleets for the entire day, did it 5 separate times. I could foresee though that it would get more difficult as the trolls complete it and start griefing. (Which they think is pirate-like. It's not.)

However, I wouldn't give up. I've been able to find friendly people even when there was no reason to be friendly before this event. They might be rare, but they are out there. Keep going to different servers, talk to all the ships you find (not just at Shark Bait). You might need to think of creative ways to make them see you are friendly and how to convince them to help you. It's not impossible, people have done it.

Also, another tip I've seen that you could try: waiting for people to show up on the ferry of the damned and talking to them there, asking if they want to join you fighting the Hungering One.

  • @monstermash1994
Hopefully my luck tomorrow will be something along those lines then and my friend and I can tackle the campaign. Despite agreeing with the pvpers rights I am hardly a pvper and would rather have an easier time of things when it comes to timed events. My limited look into the event has not been so good so hopefully it's just that...a limited look.
