Are Athena rep time based or just random?

  • I've just completed my fourth Athena voyage and I'm still on level 2 rep.
Where as the second Athena's I completed already took my rep to level 2.

I may not be the best at math but if two voyages takes me to level 2 rep then surely four voyages should at least get me beyond that if not level 4 rep itself.

That would only be true if the XP requirements of each level were constant or at a very low slope.

The XP requirement curve is likely logarithmic or geometric, with massive increases of additional XP for each level.

  • @itsporkchopfu Thanks. It's as clear as mud to me now. lol :o)

I think what you're saying is that it depends on the Athena level of the pirate legend that proposes the voyage. Is that right?

All four voyages were from 4 different legends, the last one only recently became a legend I think.

  • @admiral-rrrsole no, it takes more to get from 2 to 3 than it takes to get from 1 to 2. It takes more to get to 4 than it does to get to 3 and so on, 96 is the magic number that gets u to 10

  • @simplybutta Dang. Rare are evil masterminds. To think, I paid $100 to be tortured like this. I should have just got married instead. lol

  • @simplybutta a dit dans Are Athena rep time based or just random? :

@admiral-rrrsole no, it takes more to get from 2 to 3 than it takes to get from 1 to 2.

Reminds me of Anarchy Online in the days of old. Back then, XP required to from lvl 199 to 200 amounted to the whole XP required to get from lvl 1 to 199...

Sorry, a bit out of the woodwork, but I thought maybe a second exemple would be of use.

  • @rick-stormrider makes sense, its like the other factions they say 1-42 takes just as long as 42-50

  • @simplybutta That makes sense to you?

Oh wait, I forgot to carry the square root of the W*F fraction. I'm always making that same silly mistake. :o)

  • @admiral-rrrsole from lvl 4 to 5 we do now our 5th voyage...not sure if it's enough or a 6th is needed

  • @schwammlgott Dang, really? That just contradicts everything.
Oh wait. Do you mean it takes 5 or 6 voyages just to level up from 4 to 5?
Good grief, what were they thinking?

  • @admiral-rrrsole it takes at least 5 to do...not sure yet, maybe it's very close and we have to finish a 6th for lvl 5

  • The first 2 Athena chests only got me 95% to level 2. So either they increased their rep output since then or there is some randomization involved.

  • I think the amount of experience points recieved depends on the gold recieved from a turn-in, which we know are a random number between 2 numbers.

The experience required to level up has a exponential growth definitely.

I don't think so...the xp from goldhoarder, OoS and merchant are always the same, no matter if you get 600 or 1100 for a captains chest...why should it be different for legendary chests?

  • @schwammlgott

It ain't always the same, if you ask me. And it's hard to determine - really, because we dont see any actual numbers. You're assessment is solely based on the visual gain on the reputation wheel when you're turning in - this is not enough proof for me.

  • @emanuel-wynnn i tried it with about 8 captains chests in a row, at about lvl 45...the lowest gave me 580 and the highest about 1050 and the amount of xp where always exactly the same...

  • Maybe this helps?

  • @schwammlgott

I literally just ran the same experiment with 6 Captain's Chests at level 47, and i came to the conclusion that i recieved different amounts of experience points for each chest, a couple were noticable, otheres not so much.

Oh well, guess we'll just have to see - if we ever get the opportunity to actually see the numbers....

    That's interesting.
I did the same with OoS last weekend and found the reputation gains to be pretty consistent (I did screenshots and overlaid them in Photoshop).
Your results are different, do you think it was just bad luck on my side?

  • @lefaux2

As i've mentioned above, i'm purely basing my assessment on the visual, which could very well be wrong - i did eyeball the progression from each chest afterall.

I would go with your conclusion though, as it seems that you've spend a bit of time on it.

    I wouldn't go that far.
I just did a test once on Level 49 and I only handed in 12 skulls.

Maybe I'll buy the game once more for a second account and to proper tests :D

  • This might help you,

    Lvl Chests Total Item
    2 3 3 Boots
    3 3 6 Gloves
    4 5 11 Trousers
    5 7 18 Belt
    6 9 27 Jacket
    7 12 39 Pegleg
    8 15 54 Eyepatch
    9 18 72 Hook
    10 21 93 Hat

    Good luck and have fun!!

  • @lefaux2 just delet your pirate and try it out at lower levels where you gain more rep between the levels 😉

  • @schwammlgott said in Are Athena rep time based or just random?:

I just got legend, I don't really wanna lose that.
But yes, I will try to come up with proper evidence.

I need the new account anyways because I'm helping a fellow pirate getting his low-Level chest achievement and having a low level player in the crew helps out there :D

  • @emanuel-wynnn I think the amount of gold you receive is the same as the amount of rep you receive. The amount of gold is decided by a random number generator between two set values as far as I can tell, so captains chests are something like 500-900 (or whatever), pray hard to RNGesus for good numbers lol

  • @reedski

    Exactly my thoughts.

  • @personalc0ffee

    Properly...

I will wait patiently for @Lefaux2 second test on this subject :-D

At least for Athena the numbers are precisely the same.
Even though the chests cash in between 3800 and 4200-ish, the progress of my crewmates and me are the same (off by a pixel or two because I play 3840x1440 and they play 1080p).

There was a statement about reputation being tied to the item and not connected to the amount of gold the RNG blessed you with. But I can't remember whether it was an interview or on Twitter or whatever.

  • @Schwammlgott @Crimsonraziel @Emanuel-Wynnn @Lefaux2 @Dyanor @Reedski @PersonalC0ffee
Okay here's a pic I've put together incorporating the rep increases taken from 4 screenshots that I've personally taken of my game sessions.
I actually video record every game session and have taken these screenshots from those recordings.
    There obviously isn't any consistency.

    Athena chest
1st). less than half of a rep point
2nd). obviously more than half of a rep point
3rd). more than half of a rep point
4th). considerably less than half of a rep point. Perhaps a quarter.

96 chests might be the magical number to completing level 10 Athena but I can't see a consistent pattern when the second and third chests each paid more than either the first or fourth.
None of the replies given above point to the example shown in my rep increase screenshots.

  • Im athena 10 guys and its somwere between 93-96 chest to become lvl 10 so just sail and have fun (No more grind 4 me) YAAAAY 😂😂

  • @alzheimeers love the gamer tag, mate. lol

But going by that can we trust that your information is accurate?
What day is it? Are you wearing pants? Did you take your medication? lol

Fair winds and happy sailing. :o)

  • @personalc0ffee lol mate, thanks for trying but sorry your explanation hasn't enlightened me.
"You get the same XP per chest, but the XP needed does not stay the same"
The rep display clearly shows the increments of each chest in random amounts or percentages so how is that being the same rep per chest?

Sorry I have to run now but I will get back to this topic.
Perhaps seeing that video will help everyone to understand.
