Buoys where ship go down

  • Not sure if this has been discussed but what are peoples thoughts on this? Basic idea is that when a ship sinks, a buoy floats up to the surface (maybe with a little lantern on it) so the loot (if any) can be found. There's nothing more annoying than having a battle and sinking a ship and then not being able to locate it.

Just happened with on of the skeleton fleets too. Me and a buddy soloed the current shores of plenty fleet in a sloop and then was unable to find the captains loot which was rather annoying.

It would then despawn after a set ammount of time (10-20 mins?). Anyway just an idea. Happy sailing!

  • This was on reddit early today. I like the OP. Think its a good idea.

  • Oh right, good to see I'm not the only person who has thought of it. Hopefully the devs will come up with something.

  • At the very least put a red mermaid cloud for all to see where the ship went down.

  • This is a nice Idea for a smalltool.
Having a small inflatable device with a flag that can be placed once (it would cancel the first one if you place it again) making a sunken ship or other marked place more visible.

  • Just let it be like the way it is...Since they are hard to find, one automaticly, starts to try to find orientation points in order to find the sunken ships again....It's amazing to see how even a slow brain, mine, can estimate distances towards rocks and islands and find treasure when the heat of battle has placed itself further away from us....
This question is a bit the same as asking for canon crosshairs , back in the days of the release...Rare didn't ,luckely, swayed...And look now, almost every pirate adapted and very many are crackshots at the moment...

People are amazing in adapting and evolving...Let us use our sences so this stays the pirate game that doesn't take us by the hand for every little, but conquerable , problem...
A game has got to have something challeging , otherwise it will stab itself to death....

  • @clumsy-george Whilst I agree to a point, the issue is with the speed that loot despawns and sinks, if we had unlimited time to find loot then it wouldn't be so bad, however that is not the case.

On another note I don't think crosshairs would help with the cannon anyway due to the arcing nature of the shot.

  • I've only fought the skele-ships once so far. At the end, I could have sworn that I had seen birds flying over the spot of the last ship being sunk. Do birds appear, or was it a coincidence that a shipwreck just happened to be nearby?

We are not asking for HUD additions or magic guides. A fun challenge has to just above your current skill level and not be too random. Right now the loot are just lost among the waves.

I would suggest that most sunk ships would also spawn af few planks and a ships lantern among any loot it might have.

That being said IMHO the loot on the non-captain skeleton ships are not worth to collect during the battles ATM.

  • For my personal liking this shouldn't be a thing in SoT.
This game is about minimal helping tools/assists, it's about using your few tools and your skills to get things done. Like any other rewards in the game you have to find the loot.
Also for me it would sound less rewarding to just head to the bouy to get your reward.

  • @octopus-lime
Instead of a buoy they could change it so that the captain of the ship always drops his/her skull. This way you always have a shining beacon of greenish light amongst the loot. The problem is though that it seems to take quite some time before the loot floats up to the surface.

    Just a coincidence

  • @Wodyo @Kzoo-Kid
Probably one of the increased barrel spawns that are around with the Cursed Sails being active.

  • @isaac-occam Yea I agree that all ships should drop some kind of floating 'wreckage' such as planks/bananas (maybe not cannon balls?)

But yes, the non-captain loot isnt a major deal.

  • Not really needed. Next month we will get rowing boats. Just drop it where the ship sank and you are good. Finding the loot and subsequently getting away with it is half the fun.

  • @octopus-lime You and your buddy sound well 'ard

  • @luciansanchez82 he is the toughest cross-dressing pirate I know!

I wouldn't say that is necessarily true, I have had multiple legendary chests spawn in the non captain ships, not just one per battle like two or three (once 4) popped up.

I do agree about the resources though, even if it was just a barrel that popped up with a few of the resources on it would be good.

  • The items need to come up faster and should spawn barrels with whatever supply count the ship had on it when it went down. Then you could have the birds around the barrels as a marker providing they don't sink in 10-15 seconds.

  • I always use buoys when tracking loot on a sinking ship!

Right buoys keep an eye on that ship!

How about using a rubbish seafarers chest as a marker?

  • @musicmee for that use a castaway..lol

  • @iceman-0007 Pah! I very rarely put the effort to even pick them up anymore ;) I have expensive tastes!

That only works if no greedy pirate is around.
Don't ever do this when i'm close! ^^

  • @musicmee oh so the skellie ships come out and you turn into a bujee pirate. I remember when we all wouldn't hesitate to kill over any chest..so sad

  • I like using skill and know how to progress, If I wanted my hand held I'm playing the wrong game.

  • @sirliborius Noted ;)

Will keep the captain's cabin locked while @sirliborius is around!

  • @ve111a Nice one fella....
