Thank you.... away to watch ...now!!!!

Edit: Looks all good too me

  • Looks like the time limited cosmetics are going to be the face paints themselves.

    Lantern in the Crow's Nest

    alt text

    New lantern
Probably temporary cosmetic in exchange for doubloons. It looks a lot like the Bone Crusher Lantern, apart from the handle being a hand this time around. Maybe a special Athena Lantern version? #wishfullthinking

  • Chairs, Statues, and now... Torches.

    Ugh.

  • @piratecraggy Very welcome indeed!

  • @sgt-palooggoo Or are they? We shall see :)

  • @lt-swag-johnson If that is a lantern in the crows nest Rare heard me the other day then... I was sailing around and had about 20 Powder Kegs up in the crows nest and I literally said, we really need a lantern up here to see what we got going here.... What are the odds? :D

  • @d3adst1ck Yepp lol smh

    Lantern in the Crow's Nest

    That's not a crow's nest. It's the front of a brigantine.

    Well, it's a good bet.
    You know why?
Because they always show the time limited cosmetics for the Bilge rat adventure at the end of the trailer.

  • I just have to smh at folks who sth at free stuff for a game they constantly bash. instead of shaking your head and trolling these forums, you could possibly be learning a new hobby, or doing charity work, or, hey, playing something you like.

  • @personalc0ffee Its just another entry into the list of low effort, uninteresting events they've added to this game that will likely be forgotten once the event ends.

  • @personalc0ffee Sorry for hurting your feelings.

  • @d3adst1ck Careful mate, you might trigger the forum thought police xD

But I’m in agreement with you. These events are just unimaginative. I personally would rather have an event like once a month or once every couple of months and have it be interesting rather then the current iterations.

  • @knifelife agreed! the game will get fired up to grab a lantern then powered off to go right back to RD2..lol

  • @mad-jack-ketch cool mate

  • @edzedd yes you can tell that

  • @knifelife I don't know why he got so upset at me calling this event low effort, because it is. You go to the ferry, use your lantern to get fire from the ship, transfer it to your ship (assuming based on the fire color in the trailer) and then transfer it from your ship to the lantern once you find it. Its nearly exactly the same as the chairs, which were just find a chair and sit in it, and the statues which were find a statue and kill it. They are all pretty low effort quests, and no one cares about them anymore (though you can always find a few exceptions to try to invalidate any statement).

It would be more insulting to say that they must have had their entire studio working on this if you ask me.

  • @d3adst1ck Yeah I completely agree, I think they need an overhaul to these bi-weekly events, to me they just seem like such a waste of development time and resources. I would rather them just cancel these events and put the team making them to work on there other content drops.

@IceMan-0007 God I can’t wait untill Red dead! I might hop on it for an hour or two at midnight just because I’m so hyped!
And there won’t be a Skelton throne or mermaid statue in sight! XD good times.

@MarsMayflower Its a public forum, feedback from all different views are welcome and benefit the game. Also your statement works both ways. You also could do that stuff..

  • Ah yes, you are absolutely right, @edzedd, my mistake.

  • I have the impression that people quickly forget that Sea of Thieves is a sandbox. This adventure is bringing new tools for players to create their own fun. To be able to illuminate these lanterns in different colours gives me a lot of creative ideas and mini-games!

  • @personalc0ffee If people do have fun with them power to them. I have had good sessions while these events have been active, however I would say that’s a bi product of the crew I’m sailing with.

I just personally see these as time sinks. They are dragged out to try and get to to play as much as possible during it.

While it’s an opinion and I have no evidence to back it I think the majority of players would rather a different system. I can’t say I’ve ever really seen a thread asking for there to be another event like the Thrones, Statues ect...
Like would you want another iteration of then?

I personally think they should just get rid of them and just put more hands on deck to make actual content drops more in depth and bigger.
I think I would rather wait 2 or 3 months for a nice sized content drop I can sink my teeth into rather than have these time consuming and if Im being honest monotonous bi-weeklys.

Just my opinion. I’ll have a think about it and get some ideas together and put up a thread later. Maybe I can get some feedback for Rare from the wider community.

A lot of time, effort, energy, and development goes into these projects. More effort and work goes into these projects than you would think.

You must have experience with software development then?

  • Im so glad i stopped playing sot, this new event is laughable. Charis all over again XD

  • Let's all point out here if you have negative thoughts on what is to come before it's even out, please head over to the Feedback/Suggestions category and write your issues and then file a support ticket.

  • @KnifeLife @D3ADST1CK It sounds like you're the ones with hurt feelings.

Lighten up. I'm going to have fun getting Legends with the ghost ship cosmetics and using Green lanterns to disguise ourselves as a Skeleton ship.

  • @blam320 Where have I implied I have hurt feelings? Maybe re read what I’ve posted...

Well, you came and immediately began ranting about how terrible the update is going to be, despite the update having not come out yet...

Yeah events with „low“ effort are better than none events... Wow deadstick You’re an genius bravo!

  • @blam320 I agreed with a comment and gave an opinion on a forum which asks for feedback.. I don’t see what’s wrong with that, and I wasn’t ranting I’m perfectly calm.

Just because you may not agree with someone’s opinion it doesn’t instantly mean they are raging or ranting. Stop tarnishing others with your own biased viewpoints.
It always blows my mind how people like you don’t ever get moderated or banned when all you do is jump on people who don’t share your vision of what the game is.

Also the devs have made it very clear that the update has been being tested by the pioneers.

  • Unlike the thrones, at least this adds something to do once the event is over. Nothing meaningful but still.
Also, if the color of the lanterns resets when you log off, I probably won't bother with them once I finish getting all the time limited items.

As for the facepaint, they look cool. I hope there are more besides what we see on the video.

Anyway, I have to agree with people here. These kind of updates are pretty "meh". This patch basically adds facepaint and the ability to change the color of your lanterns.
I mean, sure they look cool and it's another way to costumize your ship. However, I rather have content that adds more things to do besides the 3 voyages.

"Good. Our lanterns are now blue!"
    "Ok, nice. What now?"
    "Err, cargo runs?"

I respectfully disagree, I commented it above but I think I personally would rather have the development time of the bi weekly events added onto the content drops. I personally feel that would be better for the game going forward.

    Who says it isn't meaningful?

Who says it won't be fun?

Who says players won't absolutely love it?

Those kind of statements don't speak for everyone. Personally, I'm liking the look of the event from the trailer. I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with those lanterns. I am looking forward to having a bit of spooky fun with my friends and crew.

Seems perfect for Halloween and did you see that skull lantern \o/

Well I'm not saying it won't be fun. I even enjoyed the skeleton thrones event.
I just rather have stuff that has some kind of replayability and incentive to do once the event ends. I would love it if the lanterns gave some kind of a buff to the ship (nothing gamebreaking. Maybe just a PvE buff. Or maybe a visual buff that changes the ship and crew to a ghost ship).

As for the trailer, it can be very misleading sadly. I thought the sunken curse will be really cool when I watched it but well...you know.

And yeah that skull lantern looks cool, I want it :p

  • @BlindNev & @PersonalC0ffee I enjoyed the Thrones event too. It reminded me of a 3D platformer game since you had to figure out a way to get to those hard-to-reach areas. The Marauder's Arch throne certainly was a good challenge. The devs put a lot of effort into creating the islands, yet we probably only see a fraction of the detail during our voyages. I thought the Thrones event was a clever way for Rare to get us to explore these islands in more depth. And isn't exploration part of the purpose of Bilge Rat events after all?
