Suggestion for Improving the Devil's Roar Experience in Sea of Thieves

  • As a dedicated player who has completed all commendations in the Devil's Roar, I want to emphasize that my suggestions are aimed at enhancing the experience for new players. I have loved this unique region since its inception, and I believe that addressing some current frustrations could help foster a more enjoyable environment for everyone.

My journey began when my friends and I became some of the first players to finish the rum bottles and cargo in the Devil's Roar. Unfortunately, my original gamertag was blocked, and I had to change it to my current one. I still frequently find myself in the Devil's Roar, and while I have accomplished everything there, I have noticed a few challenges that new players face:

    1. Simplify Emissary Quests: Currently, there are four emissary quests available in the Devil's Roar. I propose consolidating these into a single emissary quest that includes 10 loot items. This change would streamline the experience, making it less overwhelming and more accessible for players.

    2. Reduce Geyser Frequency: The geysers in the Devil's Roar can be excessively punishing, often leading to frustration. Reducing their frequency or damage would help alleviate this annoyance.

    3. Modify Earthquake Mechanics: When earthquakes occur, players are often unable to run, which feels restrictive. Adjusting this mechanic to allow players to maintain movement would improve the flow of gameplay during these events.

    4. Balance Lava Damage: The amount of lava hitting ships, particularly during higher emissary levels, can be discouraging. Reviewing the interaction between lava and ships to reduce the damage would encourage more players to engage in this area without the fear of immediate setbacks.

    5. Address Player Behavior During Breaks: After selling loot, players often request a break of 30 minutes in the Devil's Roar, whereas in other regions, they usually take shorter breaks. This inconsistency can affect team dynamics and enjoyment. Adjusting this behavior could create a more cohesive gameplay experience.

    6. Overall Experience Improvement: Many players, particularly new ones, love the cosmetics associated with the Devil's Roar. By refining these mechanics and creating a more welcoming environment, we can ensure this region remains a favorite for all players.

I hope these suggestions can help improve the overall experience for new players exploring the Devil's Roar, allowing them to enjoy its beauty and challenges without excessive frustration.

  • @seathiever The Devil's Roar is SUPPOSED to be more challenging, which is why the loot is worth greater rewards.

Geysers are supposed to be punishing, reducing their frequency would nullify the risk and therefore should equate to lesser rewards.

Earthquakes are SUPPOSED to limit your movement as well as potentially alert players to actual eruptions. Again, reducing their frequency/effect would nullify the risk and therefore should equate to lesser rewards.

The level of voyage you are on has no impact (at least to my knowledge) on the eruption frequency or damage. If you think it is bad now, should have played when it was first introduced.... 😬. Again, reducing their frequency/effect would nullify the risk and therefore should equate to lesser rewards.

The Devil's Roar is an opt-in choice. You don't spawn there naturally, aside from possibly sinking when already there, so 'taking a break' is entirely the player's own choice. Again, if players don't wish to face the additional risk, they don't need to. They can choose not to visit.

  • On a side note, this again sounds like someone has asked ChatGPT "How to make the Devil's Roar better".

  • A lot of these suggestions seems to nerf the junk out of DR so it like everything else.
Once you get the hang of things you spend a lot more time there. Because, nobody goes there.

  • On a side note, [mod edit] and [mod edit] are two players I’m trying to help, which is why I’m suggesting these changes. Please contribute to this post positively or refrain from commenting. Show some support or stop responding to my posts.

  • It really does look like, and is even structured like, an answer from ChatGPT.

But on topic: Those are all bad ideas; The Devil's Roar is meant to be difficult. These are less 'improve' and more 'nerf'.

You don't get to decide how and when people can reply to your posts.
People should not have to keep silent if they disagree with you. That's just asking for an echo chamber.

  • It seems maybe some moderators and their friends have teamed up only on my posts, rolling on page laughing. Can you invite me to your private Discord server to see what's going on?

Why are you immediately active on my post? Who are you? Who sent you? Why do you never reply to other posts on the same topics, like this one:

  • @seathiever They are another Forum user and that post is years old.

Remove your line: 'On a side note, this again sounds like someone has asked ChatGPT "How to make the Devil's Roar better."' You removed my response to you. Be a real moderator who shows they are genuinely committed to working on the Sea of Thieves website.

I’ve already asked them to investigate your issue with me. When I post something, I don’t receive helpful answers; instead, the responses are offensive. Share your opinions with respect—you are a moderator and founder. Do I need to teach you how to respond to players politely on the website? How old are you, and what are your backgrounds? I can’t imagine what kind of qualifications you have that made Rare decide to employ you.

yaa you will remove that too?

  • As this is now a matter for Support, I'll be dropping anchor here.
