High End PC - Occasional Stutter

  • Hello Pirates!

    SPECS:
    Ryzen 7 7800X3D
    Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070ti SUPER
    AMD5 B650 Motherboard
    64Gb DDR5 RAM
    2Tb SSD

I have all drivers/chipset drivers up to date. I need gsync and vsync or my screen tears. These stutters seem like server latency issues.

I have been troubleshooting for days now because to me it seems like when I see others’ gameplay it’s buttery smooth compared to mine and they have weaker systems.

I reset my BIOS to default because I know this PC is a tank and I shouldn’t even have to OC it.

Does anybody have any tips/ideas for solving stuttering completely on High end pcs?

Or does RARE just need to improve their servers? I often fall off the ship, miss shots, get killed after a delay. It’s just discouraging to try improving at a game where it’s pumping out frames no problem but hitching every 10 seconds or so.

To me it kind of seems like a background application doing it? My game runs great 138fps locked w/ gaync, it’s just jarring when things slowdown for a moment or whatever.

  • @boneyardx0 I always recommend to people I speak with who are having issues to drop their settings by 1 in game. The game will automatically detect your machine and put it at the highest setting it thinks will run nicely. If you have a great machine it will put you on mythical graphic settings(the highest). If you’re having any issues I recommend dropping it by 1, so if you’re on mythical drop it to legendary. This has pretty consistently solved the graphical issues for the people I’ve helped in the past and also myself. It seems SoT is a little overconfident in their graphic selection.

That said… the servers can be awful and a lot of what you talk about just seems server side(missing shots, falling off ship, etc). So adjusting your graphics may not help at all. Depending on your location to the data center that hosts your sessions, you will have more or less issues than others. Some people you’ve seen may live extremely close to their data center and have the best latency possible.

  • @boneyardx0 I just came back to the game after a 2 year break and it is just unplayable now. It used to be annoying already, with the stutters and desyncs every now and then. But yesterday I lost my sloop because I could not move up and down the stairs without getting stuck somewhere due to crazy frame drops. From 60FPS all the way down to 15FPS, which even if it occurs for only a second ruins any chance of fighting or quick movement. Trying every setting there is, updating and rolling back drivers, using NVIDIA control panel to force settings - nothing helped.
I cannot fathom the fact that this has been an ongoing issue for years and instead of the devs working to improve the situation it just gets worse and worse with each update..
