Swords need to be nerfed, you get hit once, you're stun locked until you die. They take little to no skill to use, there is a small amount of tech but it is stupidly easy to learn. It truly appalls me how people can go from sailor to pirate legend just using a weapon that requires no aim to use. How do people not find it boring, there is no satisfaction of hitting nice shots or outplaying your enemy. Sword users, please enlighten me in how you still have sanity, because I am losing mine playing this game.
Swords
I used to love using the sword. Felt really good jumping around your enemies character model and slashing from behind or above. Then I started noticing the sword doesn't work half the time. The worst bug is when enemies aren't stunned after being hit a successful slash, causing a M1 spam competition. Sometimes sword slashes can hit through blocks. Sword is also affected by Hit reg, although not as bad as the pistol is. And lastly the range can be ridiculous and deceiving, although I think it's just back tracking.
@wolfmanbush I was gonna right "ik I sound like a salty double gunner" just because of how predictable your comment is. I feel like the general takeaway is that the game is so bugged that nothing can be balanced.

Don't worry they've turned me into a chopped salad with gold flakes for a long time too
@snowtuber There's a way out of stun. Provided that you also have a sword equipped, simply sword dodge out of it. To sword dodge, simply move in any direction while blocking, and then jump. Don't worry about the stun affecting your movement - it will still work. Because this defensive manuever forces you to move, it breaks the affect of the stun immediately.
You're welcome!

@galactic-geek While this is helpful (even though I already knew) the whole point of my post is to show you that I don't use the sword.
@snowtuber wait. Was that the point? If you don’t use the sword, prepare to die to the sword. A lot.
If you do happen to use the sword, there is a massive skill level to achieve. It’s based around movement.
If you’re getting chopped up as a double gunner, then that’s the bed you’ve made for yourself.
Maybe you should try mixing up your strategy.
And for the record, it is VERY satisfying to chop up double gunners.
@mostexpendable I don't see how much movement skill is required. If an opponent not using a sword is getting swung at they will shoot you or run, if they shoot and miss the fight is over, and if they try to run they get stun locked. You could argue that the "massive skill to achieve" is swerving to avoid bullets but that doesn't take much thought. And no, I won't switch my strategy. I'd rather go down in a fight knowing that I am better than someone because I don't have to use a mindless m1 spamming weapon. I can see how you find the killing of double gunners very fun as they are all as toxic and close-minded as me :)
@snowtuber haha. There’s definitely a scissors paper rock element to how different play styles and weapon choices interact. If you’re double gunning. All sword users need to do is overwhelm in numbers. Sword vs sword becomes a very different balance and requires quite the learning curve.
But yeah, if you’re not going to mix up your strategy, maybe consider not going to the developers website and requesting changes to the game itself.@snowtuber said in Swords:

If you choose to use 2 ranged weapons you can't complain about not having a counter to a melee weapon.

You're right, but the sword is very broken right now too (just like the other weapons sadly).
@momsnewdaddy described it very well in his comment.
Sometimes you get hit from too far away. Sometimes you're the one landing the hits, yet also the one who actually takes damage instead of your opponent. It just really is stupid right now.
@mostexpendable Fine, I give in. If you use the sword you are trash at the game, no aim required, little to no skill required, and if you really think that that it is hard to right-click to block in a sword 1v1 you really need to rethink what skill means to you. I know that my take is bad, and that I'm just a salty double gunner. But you can't wake up in the morning, load up sot, use the sword, and think "yes I am a good player that uses raw mechanical skill to eliminate my enemies". I would say I'm not gonna respond to this thread and act tough, but ik everyone on here would rather I leave for good anyways. So uh, have a good day, unless you use the swo-. You guys get the point by now. :)

...and that is why you fail. It's not as simple as you might think. For example, to avoid being 1-shot by a blunderbuss, you have over 30+ options open to you - I should know; I was the 1 to figure them out...

Many pirates enjoy urinating on negativity, as well.
I wouldn't berate the mods for keeping the forums as positive as possible.
Especially for such a fun game that can easily become a trolls wetdream.Toxicity is easy.

That doesn’t mean it’s balanced. Your weapon of choice paralyzes avatars from the waist down after one hit until you get yourself other two or three swings in. The lock was fine when the sword was about 5 hits a kill but now being at four, it is ridiculously mindless to use. If you really are skilled you should be able to land four sword swings without paralyzing the enemy. I’d really much rather the old cutlass returns though. I actually enjoyed sword duels back then because they actually required being good with the cutlass.
The sword seems fine to me in fact I mostly die to gun shots or blunder bombs if I get hit with a sword it’s when I’m low health anyways and I do the same to others I use pistol and blunder bombs and if I need to finish them off and I’m close or they get close I use my sword I think the dmg is fine where it’s at also to use the sword well does take skill you can block, dodge, jump, and dash the timing takes skill to do I still suck at it
