Boar Hunting Voyage

  • I'm enjoying the Meg Hunt Voyage - it's logical and nice to get a new shipwreck at the end. The tools we are given (the spyglass) make it so.

Sadly I cant say the same about the Boar Hunt.
The Hunters Call need to sell some resource that will allow us to track the scent of the Boar - or the Boar needs to defend it's wallow much more aggressively ie return to the wallow much quicker(if at all).
Alternatively allow us to bait the wallow with fruit to entice the boar back.
After finding the wallow, multiple times I have given up trying to locate the errant Boar. There is no helpful visual or audio cues to aid tracking.
Very frustrating. As a solo leaving boat unattended so long is just not worth it.

I cant say the same but the Opposite.
Boar hunting is simple and easy, for a short run. The rewards are fine for a task it gives.

Meg hunting...You dont even need to do much and it the same old thing. Find location, battle, find second, sail backwards, fight, find location, sail backwards and third fight. I expected a much bigger Hunt for a large creature or longer for the time it says.

I have given up trying to locate the errant Boar. There is no helpful visual or audio cues to aid tracking.

Sounds, and Tracks. It really never ventures far from its den. You can simply wait around its little pile of loot for it to come back and it will come to you.

  • Dare I suggest… A Boar call?

(Small wooden tube like the blowpipe)

Honk this sucker on the island and call the piggies home.

There should be footprints on the ground and they occasionally drop fruit along the way.

  • @burnbacon

I've been trying to kill the Boars with the hunting spear which necessitates going back to the ship to rearm (hopefully a stash of easily transportable spears is coming lol)

On multiple occasions at Smugglers Bay and Krakens Fall I've just given up because the Boar does not come back. These are hooj islands to run around looking for a moving X.

  • I agree. Boar hunts are done very badly. I have yet to hear them, see fruit or see tracks. I have even had to cancel the voyage because after spending 20 to 30 minutes covering every inch of the island multiple times i simply gave up. I believe there is either a bug with some of the voyages, which would be on par with Rares normal abilities, or they need a major rework with some of these suggestions. I can say once i get done with comms it will be another thing i never do again and it will just be annoying boars that attack you on islands sometimes.

  • @pc-monkfish

Hmm. Never had any boar hunts on large islands. Well, nothing like Old Faithful or Shipwreck.
But all you need is one fully charged Spear, and four sword swings. Done.

and as some say, There are tracks to follow, but I have yet to follow them, Boars are always near the dig site for me. :( sad I never encounter the troubles others do.

The problem is that the whole "dropping fruit" and "leaving tracks" only work when brown boars also exist. So on emergent boar encounters, you can follow the lesser boars to their alpha and his hoard.

But voyages don't have brown boars for some reason. It's just a lone alpha. So you just have to run around the island to find the boar and it's den. It's still laughably easy but very anticlimactic.

The fact that only emergent alpha boars (the ones who actually lead a herd) drop pristine tusks makes me think that there was -at one point in time- supposed to be a higher level version of the voyage that actually includes the brown boars and better loot.

The fact that we only have "A pirate's boar hunt" without a higher level also seems to strengthen this possibility.

  • I have not found the boar via prints yet. Often find the wallow first then the boar just through random exploration.

  • @pc-monkfish The new Meg hunt voyage is a waste of time for most pirates, loot is garbage and no chance to spawn shrouded ghost was a stupid thing to do it should still have a tiny chance to spawn. And the boar hunts are just as bad as the “alpha boar” just runs away. What’s the point??? Extremely disappointed with these last few updates to the point where I don’t really want to play anymore, and I’ve been actively playing from day 1. Come on Rare pull it together!

  • The current tracking for boars kinda suck, it doesnt consistently show the tracks for where the boar has been.

I just run around the island like a fool until I see one.

  • What they need to do is allow us to place fruit in traps causing the creature that gets trapped within it to be unable to move for a certain amount of time. Cuz right now traps are mostly for PVP

    Aye!

A scenario I am familiar with LOL. I got my 15 hunting spears hits so not in a hurry to repeat the experience.

Yeah that would be an awesome addition! Adds a bit more strategy to the hunt - allow ambushing as you are disguised in a chest.

  • whoever decided the huntingspear/boar idea is happening ingame need to get in touch with the community and the actual game.
