The Hungering Deep: Community Challenge

  • OMG! Why can’t these be real challenges in the game with achievements and commendations? We desperately need incentive to defeat the megalodon again!

    1. Fight the Megalodon at night and in a storm. check !!!

  • There is talk here of the Meg being removed post THD event... I thought that the actual AI threat would remain, just that Merrick would be happy to move on and perhaps give us some sweet weekly quests with his Bilge Rat brothers?!...

I'll be gutted if it's gone after the event given that I have only managed to take it down once. The servers were dead on Friday AND Saturday!

They gonna pull a madden and remove it. Then! Reskin it and add it again at a later date and call it new content. I'd put money on dat.

@pikaaroon did you know you were playing with a youtuber that day? I saw this moment in zylbrads video

Nope, haha voice sounded a little familiar to me but didn't connect the dots. We had zylbrads mate, Todd, stowaway on our galleon for a little while.

Was a hilarious and fun session with them all.

It was only afterwards when someone pointed out the Deckhand sails in the video that I realised.

  • That one was easy (number 20), but we did it on our first (and only) time on the quest, last week.

    Can't get enough of Merrick's stories :)

  • I would try for 14, but I only find castaway and seafarers chests... Even on a 25+ chest run...

  • Beardageddon has now Solo killed the Megalodon on a sloop, using no TNT kept a chicken alive and was naked,. This can be seen on his twitch channel https://www.twitch.tv/beardageddon and its here at youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBydkZpWl7E

    EPIC!

    That man is a legend!

  • @cpt-deadlydaley I already started my own creative challenge. I created a captain’s log over on my blog to write about the travels of Awake Willy aboard the Seasick Raven. http://talesbytheunexpected.be/unexpected-tales/awake-willies-captains-log-its-stirring-at-the-sea/

  • I actually fought the meg during a night storm with my galleon crew and 3 sloops. The sloops all sank and the crews had to seek refuge on our ship. In the end we prevailed but barely.

    @cpt-deadlydaley - Wish this was posted last week as I would’ve taken more clips. I know I’ve completed 3 4 5 7 9 10 11 13 15 16 & 17, but not sure if I have images or footage of them all.

Post proof or it didn't happen, especially if you are going to try and claim number 11 ;)

  • ITT: How can we make it look like our first update wasn't an incredibly hollow and boring one without any replayabiliy whatsoever?

  • Nice idea...really is. I'd settle for just being able to help my friend just experience the Meg encounter.

When we the tried last night on a sloop, the only other ship that seemed willing to help was a galleon anchored at Shark Bait Cove. We exchanged pleasantries using the features provided by Rare..."Sail with us", "We're Friendly", etc. and we agreed to proceed. Carried the shanty to the summons spot and were communicating tactics for fighting the Meg when the galleon crew set off a gunpowder keg under our hull and killed us with cannon fire.

To my fellow 'Pirates" on the Galleon...way to represent. My friend still hasn't been able to experience the PVE content that Rare created for all to experience in THD. What a fantastic way to build "trust" in the community, especially when the game demands cooperation amongst crews. Extremely saddened by the state of player conduct I've experienced in this game to date. I'm sure my friend is equally impressed as well.

Best of luck with the community challenge!

Wow, if someone is able to do all 24 missions then you should make a new title to give to him or her...Something like Pirate Rambo or something alike...No , all serious now, this will take a lot of time ,skill and even luck to accomplish all these missions...
Very curious to the first pirate's name who can pull this one off...

    Title Suggestion:
    Megalodon Mastery

  • @cpt-deadlydaley wouldn't it be easier to just add that list to the achievement list? This will make them worth to do.

  • @cpt-deadlydaley What does Beardageddon win for being the first to solo kill the Megalodon? :P

  • Trackable challenges certainly does seem like something that should definitely be implemented in the future. I assume it's something they are probably working on, but would definitely help to give incentive to replay things like this.

  • Done movie :D

  • @mc-rossco - I'll wait till the event is over and combine my footage into one video, rather than post multiple times.

Not sure I have footage of me taking the Meg down alone but there was a few witnesses on Devils Ridge.

  • @vybris Sounds about right

  • @cpt-deadlydaley

I fought the HD on a solo sloop. It didn’t go too well. Eventually I got knocked off the sloop and my sloop was deep into the Red Sea before I got back to it.

  • Ho I need a crew to kill the shark who can help me???

  • @stubbierbell598 it is not being removed and is going to be a permanent AI threat in the game after this coming tuesday when the weekly events and content start releasing

  • How to get this white trousers ?

  • 11 and 13 completed together, best fight of my life

  • The captains chest was the reward for a riddle quest on Shark Bait Cove, the chickens were catched there too.
So i thought i'll show Merrick what he is missing on this island.

That would be no. 20 completed:

Number 10 has been done but I think this is the first video proof!

He didn't regognise you either, I spent the whole video wondering how he didn't know who you are.

  • I posted this in the mega-thread but I'm going to post it here in case people don't want to wade through 222 posts.

A lot of people have been asking for Meg to give some kind of reward so that there is incentive to fight her multiple times. I agree that this is something that would extend the replay value of future events (big content updates + weekly events).

A lot of people have also suggested that this be implemented by Meg dropping rewards once you defeat her. This is where I disagree. I think the community event idea suggested on reddit where rewards are given to everyone based on their participation once the community has reached a certain threshold is a much better way to extend the livelihood of the event while also maintaining the community driven "alliance" gameplay that Rare focused on for HD. If Meg simply drops rewards then all we have is a mobile Stronghold.

I like strongholds, and I like fighting other people for them, but we already have that. For the weekly events and the live campaigns that come with bigger "DLC", reward the community as a whole. This will give replay value and incentivise working together. Then, once the AI threats or new content is added as a permanent fixture to the game and the event itself is over, change the rewards to be a way to progress to pirate legend.

    Ahoy pirates!

We're one week through The Hungering Deep and we've had a blast watching you take to the seas to tackle the mighty Megalodon. We've seen some epic triumphs and bitter defeats and it all got us thinking about what else we would like to see!

    I present to you:

    The Hungering Deep: Community Challenge

    Here's the deal.

We've compiled a list of 24 actions, some of them challenging some of them trivial. Your goal is to complete as many of them as possible - and we'd love to see video and screenshots of you achieving them.

As this is a Community Challenge, presented to you by the Community team, there will be no in-game rewards for taking part in this, but we'd like to fully encourage pirates to take us up on our cries of "step up!"

Anyway, I will stop blabbering, I have grog to attend to. Have a look through the list and take on the toothiest challenge to ever be.
