I am so confused as How Sea of Thieves works for PC as I only have two choices (Game Pass Version)

  • So I have this game on the PC game pass version and I am guessing that the version I have install is not the full game... Is this a correct assumption?

The Reason I am writing this is that on every video I watch People state that the user should start in a Tavern and will need to pick a mission...

I Always start on a ship with some other players... I don't get to pick a mission, I am already on a ship and the only option is adventure.

When you read online people seem to have other starting places... this makes me think that the game pass version of the game is limited...

Is this correct? Or am I doing something very wrong... thanks for any help in advance.

  • @io-1010010 The version on Game Pass is the full Sea of Thieves (as are all the games on Game Pass) the only thing I can think is that you are choosing 'Open Crew' from the menu, in which case it will put you into a crew with other people and if they are already underway, you will be put on their ship.

  • @io-1010010 If you select open crew, you're going to most likely get placed on a ship that has already started a voyage and aren't at an outpost.

If you start an closed crew, or an open crew and there are no available spots in existing crews, you will start as a new crew (party) in the tavern and get a tutorial. The idea is that if you join an in progress crew, your crew should show you the ropes but if you are alone you might need some starting tips.

  • @d3adst1ck Ahhh I see. I wish there was a way to start with the tutorial... But thank you both for the information. I was so lost as to what was going on there...

    Take care!

  • Don't worry mate, you have the full game. The tutorial starts you in the tavern, but that's if you are the only one in your crew. You probably had a different result because you joined another crew. If you want to play alone or make sure you have room on the boat for a friend, then after choosing a boat, you will want to choose "Closed Crew". I'm not sure if it will start you on the tutorial, as you have already loaded into the game with another crew, but you will spawn into the tavern and you can choose a quest from on of the 3 main factions, found on the dock, in the green tent, and in a weird purple tent built below another small building. Another recommendation; if you choose to play alone, pick the sloop! The different boats are designed with different crew sizes in mind. The sloop is for one to two players, the brigantine for two to three players, and the mighty galleon for a full crew of four players. I hope this post helps, and I wish you a great time on the seas!

  • @io-1010010 if you want the tutorial, you need to delete your character and create a new one. Yup start adventure mode with a closed crew!

  • @io-1010010 You can delete your pirate to start over and start a closed crew to make sure you get the tutorial if you want. To be honest, the tutorial shows you the basics of how to pick up a voyage, interact with the shops and sell loot but doesn't teach you anything about sailing the ship. You may even be able to start a closed crew without deleting your pirate to get the tutorial, but I'm not sure.

Most of the game knowledge is going to be picked up on the seas, so playing with a crew will likely teach you faster. If you're on XBox, use LFG. If you're on PC, join the official discord (https://discordapp.com/invite/seaofthieves) and use the lfg channels - there is even one for new players (#new-swabbie-lfc).

Open crews can sometimes work out, but most of the time they are disasters.

  • @io-1010010 your good try closed crew

  • @redquest101

So If I had a buddy at the start with me we would get to see the Tavern and other options?

On my main screen I see Adventure and Arena I click on Adventure and I get the option to join a close crew or open... I select Close crew correct?

When I select that It goes to ship selection I select a small ship (last on the list) Then the game says looking for crew :( That's the part that lose me..

Because all the things you listed in your very helpful post is what I want to happen vs being pushed to another user's ship that is already at sea.

I find it so confusing that the developers decided to have the game push people to boats with users even if they were new to the game and have no idea how to use the game.

Right now my only wish is to get to the tavern. I did read the stuff posted to the internet about picking the smaller ship if I play solo or with a buddy.

I will try to load the game up again and see if I start in the tavern.

Thanks again for all the info.

You should have a button that says "Set Sail". When you click that, it will start up your crew (and can say "Looking for crew" as part of the loading process, that is normal, it's just getting your party together). Once you've loaded in, you should start in the tavern at an outpost. There are rare occasions where you may spawn at an island if the outposts are all occupied.

I find it so confusing that the developers decided to have the game push people to boats with users even if they were new to the game and have no idea how to use the game.

The reason they do this is because the game does not hold your hand at all and it's usually easier for experienced players to teach new players. Sailing by yourself is quite a bit harder since you have to manage a multi-task ship by yourself while looking out for other player ships and dealing with threats like the Kraken and Megalodon.

When you get loaded onto a boat in progress, the players already on that boat usually know what they are doing. If they are good, they can mentor new players a lot quicker than a tutorial ever could.

  • @io-1010010
When you select close crew it should appear a menu whith your username and another space, in caseu want to invite a friend, then just press the button "Set Sail" and you should appear on a new ship in a Tavern.

It's so confussing that it sends u on a ship that is already sailing... for real. Maybe something's wrong...

    Yehaaa!!
Spread the curse in the seas!!

  • Hehe you have so much to learn. You ain't see nothin' now :) wait until you're out there sailing and you come across other ships! You about to lit up these forums then! Hah

  • @io-1010010 To create a sloop with a closed crew with one of your friends follow the steps below.

    First Select 'Adventure':

    Then 'Sloop':

    Then 'Closed Crew':

    Then 'Invite Friends':

(Invite Friends is X if you are using a controller or I think 2 if you are using a Keyboard)

It will open a list of your Xbox Live Friends list and you can choose the friend you want to invite, they will receive a notification on their console/PC to join you. Once they do their name will appear below yours and you can click on 'Set Sail'
