@jollyolsteamed said in I have an idea for the Obsidian Set, and a way to keep the OG's value.:
@xultanis-dragon guess we pre order different games as mine comes with items and mounts etc and which usually raises the prices betrayal would be less severe but still a betrayal as the people who pre ordered basically bought the game before it was released they still supported a game before they even knew if it was going to be released sure they could set a release date but you never know if they pull the plug reason i say this is there was a survival game which had great promise but got cancelled and people never got their refunds they still bought a product they couldn't use until release whats the difference you ask well if you buy it when its released you know your getting what you bought aswell as what point to pre ordering if you could get the items later when the game prices drops this is what makes it unfair people who pre-ordered back then paid 60 bucks hell i can buy the game for like 20 unless the sale ended (still running on game pass)
If you bought anything pre-order and it didn't get released then you are suppose to get a refund. Pre-orders are usually $5 to $10. Everyone supports games. Some players just don't have the money or don't think they will have the time, or maybe someone bought it as a gift. There are tons of reasons for a person to not get a game pre-ordered.
I wanted to get Kingdom Hearts 3 for pre-order but I couldn't because of stuff going on and I knew I would never get a chance to play it as I just relinquished ownership of my PS3 due to life problems. Doesn't mean I don't love the franchise or the games, or didn't want to support the developers. However you deem it fair under those circumstances that I should never have whatever cosmetic they released because I fell on hard times? That seems fair? There are lots of other players out there with tons of different reasons.
Locking in-game cosmetics behind exclusivity is honestly a bad business practice. I've never seen a community crash from a game re-release an exclusive cosmetic.
I don't agree with players who feel betrayed because eventually they stop wearing the cosmetic or using it, and eventually they stop playing the game. After a while the player doesn't even bother thinking about it until someone asks "hey any way you guys can release this out for everyone?" then the pitch forks fly on something you guys don't even bother using anymore.
I'm not trying to be combative with this but I look at it as I would children fighting over a toy. I know that sounds bad but I do because its the same exact thing. I know i've said this before too.
A child has a toy he never touches or plays with. Buried somewhere deep in a chest and if asked if he wants to play with it, he says no hes bored with it. The second he sees another kid playing with his toy, NOW he gets mad and says he wants to play with it.
This is how I see players with exclusive ingame cosmetics because thats how it all eventually goes. They love it, use it, then get bored with it, never mention it or think about it UNTIL they see someone else want it.
