I love the old fashioned site down on a couch play together with siblings mechanic i think I’m speaking for a lot of people when I say we miss that and this game needs it and would work well with it me and my sister really see each other because she goes to college and when she comes back we like to play video games the problem is there not as much games as that any more and she dosent have pc or Xbox and it’s better to be next to each other and also play with a friend who couldn’t buy the game and comes over and plays with you so please add split screen co-op to Sea of thieves.
Split screen co-op please!!!
@superiorewe4833 You´ve got a point there, but I don´t think split screen fits the playstyle of SoT... You know, it´s about communication, especially when it comes to navigating the ship. The pirate on the steering wheel, has to listen to his friend for navigating the ship properly because of his partly blocked sight due to the sail. It is possible on the small ships though, but I think the main intention of SoT is creating an atmosphere as close as possible to "reality" when it comes to the life on a pirate ship. But of course, I don´t dislike the idea at all, I just don´t think it´s what the devs thought of this game to be.
@superiorewe4833 Hey there. There are two different problems with Co-op: 1. processing power and 2. screen width. These are two very limiting factors.

Could lead into a massive decrease of the graphics.

Did you ever play rocket league? It's the same problem there as it will be here: You see half of your environment, if you are lucky.

@jcmdeadpool has a point, split-screen requires the game to have the ENTIRE map loaded twice and presented on 2 small screens. Imagine you're on an outpost but your buddy is on a different island; the game has to have both of those loaded at once, and everything in between the players too. It'd be a processing nightmare

@superiorewe4833 they said it won’t be a thing, sorry
This is correct, Split Screen will not be coming to Sea of Thieves.
I wish they would consider introducing local co-op. My girlfriend and I would love to play this game together but we can't. It's sad that so many games have abandoned local co-op. It would just make sense with SoT as the whole purpose of the game is to have a crew. If Borderlands could do it I don't see why SoT can't? Sadly I don't think I'll purchase this game if it's never going to support local co-op.
@stumybru Unfortunately, as is usually the case, it does seem due to technical limitations too much would have to be sacrificed from the experience to allow split-screen/local co-op. Obviously not as practical, but is best to have another Xbox or PC with another TV or monitor and join up through that.
@superiorewe4833 it would be so cool I got a idea if your friend is on another island plr2 will be teleported to player 1

Split screen would be SO hard to play! You really need the full screen to be able to see what you're doing. My Fiancé and I play the game together on the couch - he's on his xbox and I'm on my PC (laptop). We had to preorder two games in order to play, but I think its worth it.
You could have also done this with one gamepass subscription or one digital version of the game. The Xbox shares the game to everyone that plays on it and the person that has it on his or her account can play it on PC.

Borderlands is a totally different game, SoT has no loading screens in the world apart from the initial one or when you return from the ferry, it supports a larger number of players at once and is multiplayer only.
Just look at how the game currenlty lags sometimes when loading in an island and issues with spawning in objects or details when getting closer. If the game runs in splitscreen it has to load everything double making those issues much much worse. The amount of detail lowering needed to be able to make an Xbox process the game twice would probably make the game lose its characteristic looks.
The game does offer Xbox Anywhere and crossplay though, which means if you can find a PC that can run it you can play it together with your gf on Xbox. You can get one gamepass subscription or purchase one digital version of the game and both of you can play together on Xbox and PC in full screen without any limitations.
