Sea of Thieves Release Delay - Content

  • There are a lot of people freaking out about how there is not enough content, but don't you guys all think that Rare would delay the release if they felt there was not enough content? They haven't (that I have heard of), so with that said I do not understand why so many of you think you've seen the content that they are going to launch with to be able to make such an assumption - then of course Sea of Thieves is a 'service' game, so by selling you pets and other items they will be able to continue to develop more and more content and expansions, etc.

This is how World of Warcraft started on PC (but they asked a monthly fee), and it now is the biggest MMO game on the planet because of all the expansions, and SoT will continue to grow as long as you continue to play, and people continue to buy things from them. That's the business nature of this game.

What they've accomplished so far is amazing - just the ship and water mechanics alone.

Check out this video of where it may be headed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_CBaqHxmOg - @hallower1980

  • It's just people being people.

Dont people get they've been playing an extremely limited version of Sea of Thieves?

Like the developers have literally pointed this fact out several times by now...

And those people who complain about little to no content, and whats the end goal.. etc etc.
Should try and research a bit. They will quickly realise how much content that didn't get included in the closed beta, and scale tests.

  • @emanuel-wynnn

Absolutely - I know I read that they are going to have a Q & A regarding content at launch in early March prior to release so hopefully that will put their minds at ease.

  • @jjblackhat i do get where people are coming from though i feel like theres not nearly enough concrete gameplay footage of sea of thieves as it is supposed to be at launch :/

I understand, but check out this video and tell me that there are not hints all over it at what Sea of Thieves is shaping up to be, and possibly a lot of this will be @ launch:

  • What Sea of Thieves is about...

@jjblackhat i do get where people are coming from though i feel like theres not nearly enough concrete gameplay footage of sea of thieves as it is supposed to be at launch :/

True. I do get where people are comming from... But in my opinion, they should lean back, take a chill pill, and enjoy the game for what it is, or not...

  • It just seems like people are treating this as a title from a small indie company when in reality it’s most likely an up and coming AAA title coming from Rare which is definitely getting a ton of backing from Microsoft. I think until this game comes out no one can say what’s wrong with it because no one has seen the final version. I personally have a ton of hope and excitement for this game.

  • There are a lot of people freaking out about how there is not enough content, but don't you guys all think that Rare would delay the release if they felt there was not enough content?

there are complaining about what there have seen in there beta, but there hiding much more content to not spoil the content for the release.

  • Yeah they have to sell pets to keep the game going or itll die. Not a greedy move at all. Microsift doesnt make enough money from people having to buy xbox live accounts and/or the peoplewho have xbox game pass as well. Or the money from the people who buy the game outright. Or all that merchandise (books/controls) that everyones buying.

  • Rare as always remains very discreet but they give clues through interviews, artworks, podcasts and I gave myself enough trouble to try to gather all that so there can be real but also speculation.

already it is important to take into account the trailer

In the description of the video we can read that it is indeed asets and possibility in the game. It is important for the future because many elements are in this trailer.

We will start by analyzing the artwork of the game
we will go directly to the most interesting.

The developers have talked about a damage system much more than just holes in the hull with mast tests that collapse on Unity prototypes and they illustrate it here

On this Artwork we can see a lot of things, actually we see the mast about to give way, we also see fire on the bridge (we can imagine that it will be necessary to extinguish it with buckets of water). right we see a pirate grabbing a rope that has been severed (can we use it as in the movies while swaying it could make duels more aerial) We also see a cat and on the other side a parrot were pets (will they be useful afterwards? we do not know yet) Let's go on the left side now, there are holes in the sails, we also see one end of the stairs that serves to climb the Captain's bar bursting (if this element breaks you could imagine not being able to climb to direct the ship) Fun thing we see an old gold-hungry sea wolf dive in the middle of sharks for a few pieces the problem is that the scale is sectioned and he can not go back up. R.I.P, the Skull-shaped Cloud has already been shown by Rare. You can also see a sword with a skin a little more fanciful, mysterious a sword Ghostly?

On the Table we can see a bonus hunting contract with the name of a crew marked on it, Sea Of Thieves apparently is not only piracy (but we will come back later) we also see the famous long view that everything Respectable hater must own. (The famous long view that posed a lot of problem to the programming team because it broke the code of the display distance of the game so they had to load the resources faster but they already use a lot of resources in the game So I guess they finally managed to integrate it. What else do we see ... a violin and a banjo! yes there will be so many good and other musical instruments, we have no more precision on the subject, if we can create our take song, learn sheet music or others. And the last thing are the dice to play of course! There will be mini games such as decoys or cards (poker?) With bets to become addict haha.

Well, here it will be fast but it's a detail that I find cool developers have confirmed that we can smoke a pipe!

Here a question about fishing has been asked and the answer is more than convincing.

Rare takes as an example to have learned during his visits to the Cutty Sark (Greenwich) and Golden Hind (London) that rats climbed directly on the upper decks when the ship began to take water. In fact, the mechanics have been integrated into the game and if your team in the open starts to see rats spinning between their legs, you will know that there is a problem.

    Another small artwork to analyze

here we can see that the pirates were attacked by the Kraken and they preferred to flee and survive by offering the boat to the Kraken (the tradition is that the Captain dark with the ship alas) For Rare escape is also an aspect of Sea of Thieves the Kraken will be a formidable enemy and other monsters will also be in the game like the snake of the seas and it will be better to ally with other pirates to have a chance to defeat them.

speaking of monsters we can also talk about sirens, there will be several types of mermaids, friendly sirens, sirens in a more original style and more frightening sirens (we do not know if it will be states of transformations or types) sirens ... but we have a gif that illustrates the thing.

to stay a bit in the bestiary until now in Alpha Tech / Beta except players, skeletons and sharks we have no real threats but in the game there will of course ghosts

    https://thumbs.gfycat.com/EnlightenedForsakenCat-size_restricted.gif

there will also be skeleton lords and different types of skeletons

And this pirate presented on the stand at the E3 who is she? she does not seem dead like a ghost and at the same time she is not alive ... would she be Cursed? the future will tell us.

Rare we wanted to opt for an original screen system, There is a feature in Sea of Thieves: the paintings. It's a bit like the photo mode of the game, in which we can create a painting in gold frame of what we have on the screen, and even better: to make a physical object that will be transported in the Yes, we can hang his painting in the captain's cabin so we can remember what we did there were 50 trips and tell our memories to the crew.

that's what I gathered and the paintings on the islands show a lot of things like the Kraken, Giant Snake, Giant Crab, Wild Boar, Turtles, Bears, Frogs, Birds, Lizard, Stingray, Tribals, Fishing, Arrows, Spears etc. ...

    sorry for my English ^^

Yeah, water is amazing, but is it 60$ amazing ?

Guys, you should keep something important in mind :
If people are worried and show concerns about content, it's because they care about the game.

Thank you for that post- I read every piece of it and it was one of the best I have read lately!

@Aenima123 consider $60 is only two wings/pizza orders at my house in a month sure it's well worth it. It's not like it's a ton of money or anything, but I can tell you that a ton of money went into making this game, and coming from a very technical background myself (original co-founder of mmorpg.com and ceo of Nemesis Studios Ent) I can tell you that it's worth $60 for even one set of clothing when it comes to how much texture/tri artists get for making that! But from a gamers standpoint I understand your concern, but I don't think it's a fair assessment of what you are getting.

Remember, the more players who join in - the more content you will see over time - this is a 'service based game'.

It's not about how cheap 60$ feels for you. If you're Jeff Bezos, the game could be 60 000 $ at launch, and it would still be cheap for him.
GTA V costed 265 millions of dollars to make, the game was still sold for 60$, same price, and with A LOT of content, A LOT, even at launch.

The more content there will be, the more players will stay and the more will join. That's a chicken and egg situation.

  • @aenima123

Your question was 'is the water $60.00 amazing' and my answer is: 'yes, I think so'.

Lets leave it at that :) Enjoy.

  • Aye! We be a social experiment too AYE. Are the sea gods gathering as much data as possible on our behavior since ye might be able to sell this data. Sociologists around the seas would be happy to see this as treasure maybe ? Read a scroll produced by a pirate organization called WHO. Don't know what this crowd is up to though.
We saw that data from player's behavior can actually help people on shore. Heard of a mighty plague that hit a continent years ago. Proved very useful knowledge to apply to real situations.
Just an ol' Gold Hoarding idea to make sure we not be paying too much gold down the line to keep the ship afloat and sailing to more treasures!!! AYE!

Well, that's great for you, but please don't dismiss the concerns a lot of people have just because you could strip all the game from its content and just keep the water system and you would still buy it for 60$, because clearly, you're not being objective in this matter.

Michael Scott ? Is that you ?

  • @aenima123 The game imo is worth well over $60.00, it has 'riddles', 'seas', 'battles', and more! Not to mention its mechanics are built around fun! I am not here to sway your decision one way or another friend - your decision is yours to make alone (I have no 'financial' ties to this title therefore it's not going to effect me one way or the other).

    Best wishes.

  • "haters gonna hate, and ainters gonna aint"
lol I love that quote so much. But seriuosly not every game is for everyone so I am not going to exactly say they are wrong, but I am near 200 hours and honestly most games I play don't get that much of my time, so I think there is plenty of content. Yes there does need to be a lot more, but we already know skeleton fort raids, a kraken, mermaid underwater stuff, becoming a pirate legend, order of souls, trading posts, livestock, skeleton bounty quests, and more are coming at launch. So we alrady know there is a lot of content we have not seen.

  • @aenima123 Ne me lad, but I know of the legend he is and tales of his adventures often give me the giggles!

  • Best advice to most posts on these forums, have some rum and wait.

  • @alphakilofive lol

  • I think Rare will begin to talk and tease us more with things we haven't seen yet. Like the recent Skeleton Fort video. It will whet our appetite and build even more excitement for the Players who tried the recent stress tests and asked, "Well what else is there?" I can say that the art and speculation posted here has only increased my excitement and the closer to release we're sure to get more official word on what might awaits us in Sea of Thieves. Rare does like to tease us!

  • it's the "never enough" policy that many people that don't understad literally anything about game develpment and beta tests adopt. I'll go on saying ignore them. If the game is not enough for those princesses then they avoid buying the game.

  • If I'm being completely honest, I am a little worried about the amount of variety, but not enough that I don't want to get the game.

I did pre-order the game, because personally I'm buying into its future as much as what it is. You can think that's a stupid approach, "don't reward bad design!! pre-orders are of da debil!!", etc. However, I really enjoyed what little I have done. I enjoy the interaction with friends and others. It was enough to make me want more.

The game isn't perfect by any means, matchmaking and getting together with friends is still very lacking, the PC interface could be optimized just a little, combat needs some work, but I believe these will improve with time. I see a lot of potential in this game. I really like the things I'm hearing about that will come on release and beyond.

Rare has put out some really great titles in the past and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt at least once. I'm kinda looking at this like a kick-starter. I'm not saying everyone should take this same approach, but there it is.

~I'll see you on the sea.

  • World of Warcraft had an infinite more amount of things to do in game than SoT does. Terrible analogy there.

  • @the-warcrombie Vanilla WoW? Not really, nope. I alpha tested WOW, and many other MMO's, etc. Vanilla WoW was Quests, Bosses, Travel, Grind, Role Play if that was your thing.

  • @jjblackhat I did also. and yes it did. Its not going beyond this because it doesn't need to. WoW has always had more content.

How do you know what Sea of Thieves is going to release with? You don't, nobody does but those who do ;)

  • @the-warcrombie Hold up, WoW? The massive game that has drove people insane, caused addictions and is said to have endless possibilities as a Massively multiplayer Online Role Playing game and it has more available than a AAA rated party game that isn't as big as a whole and wasn't aiming to compete against it?
