Hi guys! Today I have two suggestions for new mechanics that I think could add some diversity to the current Gold Hoarder voyages.
These suggestions will introduce two new items, the Decoder Pin and the Sextant that come into play as you progress into higher reputation levels with the Gold Hoarders.
Clues Using the Decoder Pin
I thought it would be cool if sometimes the clue was a message that has been hidden with a cipher. If you decipher the message, it leads you to the treasure. While this would be a really fun mechanic, it might be difficult for some players to figure out. We have to account for the vast age range and education levels of the player base and we don't want to put some players at a disadvantage. The solution? A Sea of Thieves decoder pin (shoutout to Little Orphan Annie and "A Christmas Story")! Could also be store item ;)
A clue would state which number on the inner circle to set to the letter 'A' and then list a series of numbers below. The numbers would represent the letters of a message, that can be determined from the decoder pin.
Clues Using the Sextant
Sextants allow you to measure the angle between two objects. A clue could give us two landmarks (waterfall + bird statue), and an angle. The clue would say to dig in the spot where the angle between the waterfall and the bird statue is 15 degrees.
The player would then set the sextant angle to 15 degrees, look at one of the landmarks, and then move around until they find a position where the other landmark lines up.
