To begin, each player must add their ante into the pot. Miserliness is strongly discouraged. Two dice are then rolled for an arbitrarily nominated player- the pirate with the most teeth, the fanciest hat, or whatever whimsy alcohol bestows upon the group. That player then best from nothing to the amount that is in the pot currently (a risky gambit when the stakes are high) as to whether the dice roll will be higher or lower.
Should the second roll match their prediction, they may remove the amount they wagered from the pot. Should the roll go badly, they must add their wager into the pot instead. Worse still, should the second roll precisely match the first, they must add double their wager to the pot - not to mention finish their drink!
Turn then passes to the next player, and play continues until all but one player is either impoverished or unconscious.
These is the rules for a dice game called "Betty" in the Tales From the Sea of Thieves book. You can find these rules in the book if you want context for why they are described in the book itself.
- My Archive of Lore Related Texts (Just like this one)
Reason for posting this: You might ask "Why is this guy posting rules for a dice game on the dang forums?". Well I collect texts and lore items that are in the game or are tied to the game like these rules for example, I then share these texts and lore items on the forums for everyone to know about. Also how cool would it be for this game to be in Sea of Thieves?
