Pirate Legend...the untold secrets!

  • So, I am a stones throw away from reaching PL (seriously, like just a few villainous skulls away.) As I plan on reaching that elusive title tomorrow, I can not help but reflect on the many posts I've read about how it has no real meaning, since there is nothing to work towards after maxing out all of the factions.

So, in true Parlay Pink, the People's Pirate fashion, I want to hear your post Pirate Legend lore! What is your favorite thing about being a pirate kegend? Or, if your not there yet, what PL encounters it experiences have you enjoyed?

As always, please keep it positive....make my heart happy!

    HAPPY SAILING!

  • @pink-geek-chic My Crew and I kidnapped a pirate legend and we made him do the skeleton thrones with us, not that I think he cared all that much (He was probably bored anyway)

He was a chill dude and made the event more enjoyable than it was :)

  • Nothing.

I am dead inside. I'm purple now, but also dead inside.

  • I’m only level 30 on all factions , but I will be proud once I’m a legend☠️

  • Well, once I get to legends I would like to have a tour around the hideout.

  • @pink-geek-chic I am not a pirate legend yet but slowly getting closer. For me its all about the journey to get there. The encounters, memories and fun shenanigans with my own crew, other crews and both friendly or unfriendly pirates. I have made so many screen shots and video clips to capture some of these fun times. Others I have recorded in stories or short diary notes. The grind to get there is slow so I have just been enjoying playing, not really looking at my rep too much. Getting to legend will be a great achievement but wont change how I play or what I will do. I will continue to be the friendly pirate that I am and just enjoy playing with my crew.

  • I play 99% solo, so will never have those silly glowy robes! Weirdly, the funnest Legends I've sailed with have been either French or Spanish. The English speaking ones seem to have been a little grrrr. Haven't encountered a Welsh one yet. Maybe I can be the first!

    Fair Winds.

  • Give me a N!
    Give me a E!
    Give me a R!
    Give me a ......

    What’s that spell?

    Pirate Legend!!!

No offense but I have absolutely no interest in being a Pirate Legend.

First of all...I ain’t digging up no chest!

Second of all I sure the hell ain’t doing no merchant quest.

Third of all the glowing outfits are the stupidest worst looking stuff in the game!

I’m gonnna do me.....which is cover my ship in Glowing skulls and PVP.

I am more “Pirate Legend” than any 15 year old Korean kid! Because I give players an “experience” they will remember for a life time!

  • @glannigan I now have an urge to slip you some milk and cover your vessel in chickens.

  • I have it all (nothing to do in game) so i battle every crew i find, today o sunk the same PL and his crew 4 Times at a fort and that was alot of fun, because he went salty Hahahah :)

  • hmm In my experience... PL brings nothing if not a sense of freedom from the grind. Which as banal as that sounds... is soooo liberating. I mean sure there's the Athena's voyages but heck, you can do those at level 1/1/1 if you got the right friends.

But knowing that you can sail, do nothing, something, an Athena's, or not an Athena's, and not feel like your failing to get to an end goal?

Yea, that just makes the game so much more playable for me than it had been.

Sure, I still wonder how deep my commitment to SoT will remain in the longest of runs... but I'm still here! PL really just makes screwing off at skull forts, messing around as a stow-away, spending the night docked and chatting, or even helping strangers just because you can and don't feel like your time would be spent better elsewhere, is such a relief!

So yea, despite your likely (presumed) play style, whatever it may be, I would dare-say that your favorite part of it all will be the air of freedom you gain.

(Just don't get bogged down by a feeling of nothing to do, or pointlessness.. that's poisonous)

  • @drbullhammer hehe sorry I skip alot of posts when making my first offering in a thread and only really read through them all after I've posted, sort of like my own reply specific to the OP. hehe

I read the thread more wholly now and frankly... deserves an upvote we obviously agree!

  • @pink-geek-chic Each pirate legend treats their title differently. My captain uses his status to look like a 90s p**p, I use it to look like a rejected ghost from Scooby Doo and my boarder...well...he’s doesn’t really wear anything...that’s probably the scariest one of us all...

  • It takes a second to realize the grind is over. You won’t lose the enthusiasm about getting a villainous or captains chest vs a fowl, castaway etc but it takes a few sessions to realize the progression crawl is finally over.
Now Athena’s on the other hand.....

  • I like to right lore or make up stories for my crew an my ships to play along on. In short of it I like to nerd out by Role plating made up lore. In one of these sessions I made a legend quote "P**s himself with laughter" unquote. He was a PvP legend an was dieing for a fight it seemed me an my crew came around just in time. We played into are little roles as a cursed gallon forced to fight for are souls on the open seas. Thanking the legend every time he "freed" {in short one shot us} we put a few holes in his sloop so we walked away with giggles around. he caught up to me an told me thank you for the laughs an we went along are way. If you see this post dude lets cross sails again, next time you play the cursed crew.

  • @pink-geek-chic me and me crew ( I was the only PL) sunk multiple ships and took over the server and made over 80k we made a name for ourselfs including our ship the devils curse!

  • @drbullhammer said in Pirate Legend...the untold secrets!:

@pink-geek-chic you know that despair you felt when you turned in a bunch of loot but your rep barely moved? That's gone now. Got a bunch of loot from a legendary voyage and you see a new person at that island over there? Sail over and give it to them. Make their day. That pressure to progress is gone. I feel the same as I did in the Alpha and Beta knowing my progress would get wiped. When I hit legend, the sense of relief and freedom was substantial. Spend a session sailing around trying to make as many friends as you can. Help another crew complete a fort and give them all the loot. It feels good.

    I agree totally
While the chase to get to PL was awesome/stressful/frustrating/long.. so long
The freedom you get afterwards is game changing
You still keep your head on a swivel when doing athena voyages, but @DrBullhammer is 100% correct. Rolling up on a boat and just saying hi, giving them a few chest to help them and then sail off is a great feeling.
Once you astablish you are friendly and dodge all the gunfire and cannonballs as you approach lol

  • @pink-geek-chic I just admit, after reaching PL my game time dropped dramatically. I went from playing many hours per day to now really only logging on to complete the events. I've kind of lost the drive to grind out Athena voyages as I know each one will be a good 2-3 hour investment... I dare say I'll get my mojo back some time soon though!

The best thing for me with being PL was the relief of knowing that loot was all that important to me any more. The exploding skellie event has been testament to that. Every time we've rocked up to a fort to progress the gunpowder plot, we've let the other crews know we're PL and that they can keep the loot. It's mostly made them very receptive to us and has led to some very cool interactions with other crews.

I guess being PL has just made this game a little less stressful for me!

Good luck getting that last skull. Maybe I'll see you sporting that fancy title on the high seas one day....

  • I agree with the posters above.

It's bittersweet. On the one hand it can be harder to motivate yourself to log in at all. On the other when you do feel like logging in there's no pressure on you to grind out a particular faction. I left a fort without taking a share last night just because I couldn't be bothered sailing to an outpost to cash out. Had my fun helping a Galleon with the commendations so I let them take all the loot. It's nice to be able to do that without even a trace of FOMO.

  • Honestly my favorite thing about being Pirate Legend so far is...
well, sometimes I like to join open crew galleons and surprise them with a pirate legend voyage. I'll usually plop it down on the table and hide, waiting for the other members to vote on it. Sometimes it never happens, so i'll hop servers. But sometimes I'm lucky and get a group of new-ish players (under lv30) and they're always so excited to see it and it's great to be able to share exciting stuff like that with people who can't just go do an Athena's voyage whenever they want.

  • @pink-geek-chic Best thing about being pirate legend? The shanty to open the gate/stairs to the ghost tavern.

  • In the first few hours, after achieving my legendary status, I felt lost. I went into the tavern, but the l**t for grog was gone. I kept playing the legendary shanty which cheered me up for a few minutes, only realising I cannot start playing it outside of the tavern.
The grind of Athenas felt useless, because the only reward for it is gold and Athena reputation. Where are the Legendary commendations? No legendary fortresses I can set my sails towards. I want to achieve something more than just doing the same voyages I did before.
Luckily my crew is still determined to keep going which gave me new hope.

  • I had not looked up the events that happen after you reach lvl 50 in all factions so I was really surprised to see this all play out. The first time you enter the hideout is something special, seeing all the folks there is great!

I hope you like me weren't spoiled and find it out for your first time too.

As for lore, I want to find out more about the pirate lord and the plaque in his room.
See the thing has my name on it, I've heard only I can see this so I'm not surprised you didnt know this but I'm guessing my picture is coming here ;-)

My favourite thing about being a pirate kegend is to pretend that I'm not.
I just happily turn in every little skull and chest to the traders and imagine that I would actually get something out of it. #beingapiratekegendsucks

(Almost) Welcome among the ranks (almost) Pirate legend :) There has been many discussion towards this I agree.

So, in true Parlay Pink, the People's Pirate fashion, I want to hear your post Pirate Legend lore!

How the journey has just been a blast I have met a lot of awesome people during my Journey to Pirate Legend. Had a lot of laughs with my standard crew and randoms. I came to realise its not the title that is worth something but the thing rare intended. It is the Journey and the story's it brings.

What is your favorite thing about being a Pirate Legend? Or, if your not there yet, what PL encounters it experiences have you enjoyed?

Before I was a pirate legend myself I encountered a few some were very nice and some were out to get you! But that isn't different form any other pirate.

My favourite encounter while Pirate Legend was a sloop I was looting cause we really needed the planks as me and my crew were fighting a Hostile Galleon for a fort. I told him if I could come back a few times to grab some planks and to stay near or around the fort.

When we sunk the galleon and defeated the fort we gave the sloop all the loot except the skull (cause im trying t get the commendation for it). And he was just very happy and amazed while me and my crew were filling his boat with treasure and escorted him to an outpost so none would take his booty!

As always, please keep it positive....make my heart happy!

I fully agree with you :) (almost) fellow Legend I guess spreading positivity will be one of your legacy's as a legend :)

    HAPPY SAILING!

So do you hope to see you on the sea's

    Kind regards
    Tango!

  • The longer it takes someone to get to Pirate Legend, the more legendary they should be . . . Yarrrr

  • @pink-geek-chic Congrats! I have enjoyed the casual Pirate Legends who love to help and do stuff with you.

I have also enjoyed running for my life to keep my stash out of the hands of a galleon full of Pirate Legends

My pirate legend: One time I got to a skull fort when it was just beaten by some pirates and I helped them carry their treasure to the nearest port and unloaded as much as I could for them so they could turn it in. Then I swam from island to iskand for a while and dodged sharks along the way!

  • Yarrrr, then there was this time when I felt like a barnacle's carbunkle and pointed my one-manned sloop in the direction of two warring galleons! I harassed and harried them both with many a cannonball stuck in their sides! Then I sailed off ne'er to be heard from again.

  • The moment I became legend I knew what my mission would be, I had heard nothing but stories of how pirate legends were just PVE players that weren't very nice. This terrible reputation troubled me to the very core, I had to combat it in every way I could.

I began by being nice to everyone I could, helping new players and if anyone was friendly in game rewarding them with a chest of a skull, this felt good. I helped with forts and took no loot I helped sloops while they were being attacked without cause by galleons and other rouge sloops. I sank anyone that attacked me because PVP is is one of my favourite aspects of the game.

Recently during an Athena we needed to dig up the legend chest, we came across a sloop on the island as you all know there are 3 choices when it comes to sharing an island, sink em, sail them away or wait for them to be done. I created a fourth option, I got him to show me his map and I helped him dig up his chests.

Even though the fight to redeem the pirate legend title is an on going one, I feel like it's a fight we're winning. ;)

  • As a Pirate Legend, I love just helping others. I mean, I already did that before I hit PL, but now when I help, I'm not sitting at numbers below 50 longer. It feels good working to get others in my crew to 50/50/50.

  • @pink-geek-chic It took me three months and six days to reach Pirate Legend. I spend my time regularly playing the game since launch and in that time I eventually came across multiple Pirate Legends who were, to say the least, not exactly the greatest pirates I had hoped them to be.

I, like you mention, created a topic asking: What is Pirate Legend actually worth? My experience thus far with Pirate Legends were limited to them running off, calling everyone every name in the book, not showing their newer crew mates the ropes of the seas and most importantly: there was nothing Legendary about them.

I set out to become the Pirate Legend Rare had always spoken about in their videos leading up to the game's launch. I wanted myself and me crew to become the Pirates you could look up to, be the ones people would respect or even fear simply because you acted like a Legend. Always with a weather eye of course, I mean we're pirates after all.

So I did just that. My crew is slowly starting to become Pirate Legend and we roam the seas like Legends. We still stick to our oldest rule: never fire first. If you are engaging us, then prepare for a good fight. If you are at an outpost, we will park our ship near yours and so long as you are calm and quiet we'll probably give you a random piece of our loot.

That last bit is something that shock players. Like massively. I'll jump into the water, tell them I am coming aboard but they have nothing to fear. Obviously they are on edge, because you shouldn't trust anyone, but as soon as they see the chest / skull / goods they tend to stand there in awe not quite sure what to make of it.

  • @murkrage matey I adore your sentiments and it would br a pleasure to sail with ya. Or sink ya. Yanno, circumstances.
