Xbox Keyboard Support

  • This has been a major issue for me since release. SOT is the only xbox game I own that has no keyboard support (or any chat support for that matter).
Its important to be able to type to people. There are many reasons. I often find myself in games with non-english speaking people on PC who are in private parties and Its impossible to communicate to them that I dont understand what theyre typing. I also sometimes just dont want to use my mic but there is no other option.
Additionally there could be MANY more quick chats. There are too many useful sayings that arent there.

  • Native keyboard and mouse control is coming to the console so it's a matter for rare to update it for use on the console version and I have stated in other threads of the same that at the very least in the mean time that chatpad support is needed for players like yourself which iirc @Musicmee stated is coming for it soon based on one of the more recent updates they looked at.

  • @th3xr34p3r xbox won't translate for you...they'll see what you type.

Keyboard issue will be resolved in next XBOX update, this fall.

I doubt anyone on a keyboard is going to have much to say beyond what is capable with the wheel.

how about: be right back, I have to go eat, I dont want to fight you, you can take my loot just dont sink me, lets team up on this skull fort, lets do commendations together, how much longer do you need this island, Im having lag issues, lets do this type of voyage, theres a skull fort behind that island/rock.
I wish every single day I could use my keyboard. Glad its finally being added!

Then stop playing with people that you can't speak with in a language that you can both understand, use LFG options to filter those out for people that you can talk to easier, tools are there for a reason.

Sure some might but I would rather see people have the option to at the very least use text chat when gaming since it makes a night and day difference in terms of basic communication for those that don't want or cannot use a mic in game at the time.

  • @th3xr34p3r When you are on the EU servers you dont get a choice about language input. Its alot diffrent on Oceanic and NA servers because the majority of people speak the same Language.

Again your choice is through the crew that you are playing with, they should be the primary at all times, anyone else on the server is moot if you run into ones that have no interest in trying to communicate in the first place anyway and so also again you can use LFG tools to filter through people for your crew that you can all speak a language that you all can understand as this is why for example we have international discord servers for this game for those people.

  • @th3xr34p3r Ah i misread what you mean aha i thought you was on about playerd in general. I personally like having a multitude of different cultures and languages in game. It opens up so many more options wheather that be good or bad. :)

This is why I keep or at least keep trying to remind people about the tools out there for games like this that I play where it does not matter what platform you are on that you can still use to get a overall better experience with, after that it comes down to the platform maker in this case MS to implement proper support of more options that we have on the PC version of these games so that the developers like RARE can add them to the games for that console version.

Now in the case of general translation that I just thought of now as I was typing this out is the Text-to-speech which I have enabled in the xbox app settings for the sake of it and it might be interesting to test at some point if it reads it out in the persons language setting for the device being played on at the time, that said there are devices out there that can act as universal translators and I seen one on a linus tech tip vid a while back so it should not be to much longer in the longer term for that tech to be put in at the OS level (other than via google auto translate for webpages).
