Ropes to Swing from ship to ship when boarding

  • Like seen on pirates of the Caribbean. When close enough to a ship you should be able to swing from a rope and try and land on the enemy ship i think this would be a good asset to the game.

By the way please keep developing this game it has so much potential.

  • @xzerocam similar to the boarding mechanic in Black Flag.

  • @dcr-lt-kanada Yeh exactly but a bit more in the theme of sea of thieves if you get me

  • It would have to be some of the rope used in the riggings for that. But that would be a great way to board an enemy ship, without having to either shoot out of a cannon or wait in the water

  • I can see throwable items becoming a thing in the future, as a starting point.

From my experiences in testing, it’s actually really cool to see how each addition was a layering of core mechanics, to bring everything together.

To achieve grappling hooks/ropes - the developers would have to expand to throwables - I’ve always thought a great starting point would be grenadas (early lit fused cannonballs for you history buffs)

Once a throwable item is added, that mechanic could be expanded on to include ropes/hooks, throwing knives and maybe even potion/mystic area of effect weapons like poison or blinding... lots of options here.

  • @xzerocam

We could do this in PotCO - it was a fantastic feeling to swing across to the enemy ships, but quite bizarre too, because the ropes just appeared out of nowhere - I know with the attention to detail Rare put into the ships and the mechanics, it might be a bit tricky to do decently?

  • We need a grappling hook.

  • Ive heard rumors of boarding axes and harpoon guns at some point. Problems solved

  • It would be cool if you could cut sail ropes that need repair after but you can flick yourself onto enemies ships
