As a reminder, it features ocean tales from a sea of thieves. I thought we would have an edition every month (as it's indicated it's the May edition) and I was able to read incredible stories in June but we are now in July.
Will there be a June edition? :(

Maybe by publishing great stories on a blog could help to issue every editions?

I have actually been thinking of making the Captain’s Quarters a weekly thing. So every 2 weeks it’s a lenghty piece on the new content and inbetween anything that I find within the community.
I’ve had a talk with Katt about this, she encouraged it so I’m now working on a piece regarding some of the coolest ideas I’ve seen these past 2 weeks.
@skulliah Yeah, buying it in-game would be brilliant! Spawn on Golden Sands, grab the morning paper from the merchant, sit down outside the pub with a grog for a nice read...
@moomintroll imagine showing the paper to your crewmates or other pirates you meet. “Have you seen this article in the Pirate Times about these so called Cursed Sails?! It’s shivering to say the least!”

There is so much going on in the updates and the player stories and the ideas that it would be pretty easy to fill a real weekly newspaper with stuff. The problem is the time it would take to compile and edit such an endeavour... I wish I had time to do it myself...

@murkrage Yes! Such a simple thing, but would add to the immersion so much... a possible avenue for Wanted posters too... and sharing user-created quests, although I'm getting way ahead of myself now, as I tend to do with ideas...
@skulliah So would a 'blank canvas' for community members to add their own articles be possible? That would kind of be the same as the Tavern Tales section of the forum I guess... but is there a middle ground? I feel excited by the prospect that there is, I just can't quite bring into focus how it could work...
That's what I was thinking, in the end it would be to have the same as the forum section if it's done like that. So, being able to highlight exciting and thrilling stories might be a better approach? It would allow a kind of reward for these people, that their story was chosen to be issued on the blog for maybe a bigger visibility?
I don't know, but I like the fact to have something to highlight what the community is doing and reward them by featuring them :)

And have one person go through it, pick the best ones for the current issue, put it all together into, looking like a real newspaper and post it in here as a pdf or maybe a PNG. And do this maybe monthly or bi-weekly.

I think that would best be a monthly thing, aye. I like all these ideas tho, they are ideas I've got for my articles as well haha. I'd be happy to incorporate all of these things into it, have y'all send me different articles and what not. I'll put them in different types of articles.

I'm really interested in this idea of a newspaper.
I made a quick mock-up to see how it could actually work. The texts are substitution texts and the subjects and authors of the differents articles are only placeholders to show what it could be.
As it's only a mock-up, I didn't get into the typographic details but I'm willing to draw the letterings of certain titles to make it more piratey if you see what I mean. Also should we keep the name "the pirate times" as it is already the official one or find a new title?
If this project happens, I can do the layout, letterings and drawings (of course there should be many opportunities for other artists to cooperate with) but it would need a "chief", someone to curate contents, maybe a ingame photographer to take some pictures (that could be used as a material for drawers) and authors.
There's a lot more to discuss I believe, what do you mateys think of it?

Btw I like to take so many screenshots, my Xbox friends could confirm that hahaha

@egan-xp4 I guess that we need first to gather all the people willing to work on this project then we could determine an editorial line, think about the restraints of the design (how many pages, the size of it, printable?, where would it be published? and how?, type of pictures, typographies, etc) assign tasks, curate contents (from the forum, reddit, etc) create original contents, etc…
That layout looks pretty good! I'm willing to help as well.
And about the name, i'd say let's change it to something else, so there's no confusion.

@skulliah I really understand your point and I'm quite open about it, it needs some testing. Maybe there's a way to give pictures a kind of vintage style (perhaps turning them in black and white and with half tone pattern). I would really like to give the newspaper a old style vibe (1 or 2 colours maximum).
@jetorchidee97 well we can do a lot of things with Photoshop, anyway the best way to know it's to make some tests :)

@skulliah whoa looks like I’m missing info over here. I’ve heard of the pirate times & vaguely remember hearing about a increase in sharks before the arrival of the hungering one. Thought it was a news letter of some sort? Where exactly do you buy this in game???

As for the name, I would gladly make this a monthly thing with 'The Captain's Quarters' because I agree that we shouldn't let it be confused with the actual Pirate Times.

For the record, the reason why I'm suggesting it is because I'm already working on TCQ anyways, so yeah :)
I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for helping to make this happen! I'm not sure exactly how - I had a quick fiddle with some website-creation and very simple screenshot ageing today, but I'm laughably out of my depth, and while I believe in learning by fiddling, I think my inefficiency would be too much of an obstacle.
I have worked as a project manager in publishing for 20 years though, so I have some editorial skills, and I'm used to pulling stuff together from a team of experts... I can't promise I have a lot of spare time, but I do have some enthusiasm...
