Remove MMR in HG

  • I'm tired of waiting 10-15 minutes for a fight. MMR does not belong in SoT :)

  • Should have always offered people an option to randomly fight anyone around the world. Prioritizing very low wait times.

Ping is not as relevant in sot combat because the same region can be just as poor performing as random fights from all over.

Even worse than ping and wait times is having people fight the same regs over and over, especially in areas where people are locked in with cheaters.

Try sailing around the map and compare your waiting period.

  • @burnbacon Sounds like a waste of time

  • @mp-dino

So does Hourglass yet here we are.

But you notice. If you sail around looking for a fight, you spend a lot more time looking/chasing than you would in Hourglass.
    Besides...HG doesnt have MMR

  • @burnbacon Actually HG does have MMR.
When you are diving and trying to find a match it has to match your region, ship size, faction and skill level.
If there are no suitable matches it opens that up so you can have same faction battles as well as opposing, it also broadens the skill gap.
If it still can't find a suitable match the only thing it can now do is change the skill so the net broadens. Priority is getting you into a fight so you're not endlessly waiting in tunnels. You get quicker Servants/Guardian reputation constantly diving fight after fight.

  • Don't think mmr window lasts more than a couple mins before it's wide enough to match with anyone. What region you on?

  • Ok let's get the most common myth out the way:

MMR exists in hourglass, the player pool has never been big enough (Even during it's peak) to take advantage of said MMR system.
So you might as well go in with the mindset that HG MMR is not even a thing.
Even after it's update earlier this year it was slightly changed where, if you couldn't find an opponent of similar ranking, it would widen up the matchmaking after 'X' amount of minutes to everyone.

Not only that, but there was also the stamp (Server) patch, which also helped a lot with finding opponents. Stamps are ''lobbys'' on regional servers, and the ability to merge said stamps meant you could find players much easier on a particular region you are playing on.
So why are Queue times still long?

    1. Well simply put, the players aren't playing Hourglass, The peak of Hourglass was last year, it started dying heavily the start to the midway of this year to what we have now.
If you looked at people streaming and even competitive players in Hourglass, they are mostly all gone now...

    2. Steam charts player counts this month shows that the average players has dipped to 5k for the first time ever. The last 2 seasons are the first ever to not bring a surplus/uptick of players to the game.

    3. These 2 factors alone carry the explanation as to why queue times in Hourglass are long, and always have been for the MOST part.

I also personally believe that RARE has tanked their reputation with not only failed updates, but also on the community side of things which landed some of their CMs in the spotlight for bad behavior.
This also exasperate the problem where players no longer want to be associated and play the game.

  • @mp-dino how you remove non working feature? Probably cross stamp HG que is broken.

  • @burnbacon what are you talking about? 💀
