Would love to repair cosmetic damage.

  • My ship is taking a hammering with these fleets.
I love the cosmetic damage and some prefer that worn battle hardened look.

However my ship looks much better pristine and im all about that pristine life! As a game so heavily focused on cosmetics and looking the part surely you being the captain should have a say whether you want a worn look or the prim and proper look right?

Id love to be able to pay a shipwright gold to totally refurbish my hull and wheel etc so when i enter on my next adventure the cosmetic damage is from that battle, not all the battles before.
I can get my original wheel handle back instead of planks
I can get the planks taken off the hull and totally restored.
So long as its fully patched up of course!

Even my paint gets taken off in places with the damage and i love my blue hull.

I think giving us an option would be best.
Some will use, some wont but i know many who would.

  • How much gold? I would not buy it for like 10K more like 1K

  • @stryps3071tv yeah there abouts. Never really thought about the amount. Something that would make sense I guess. Couple hundred coins or so. Something you won't really miss paying out now and then.

  • I think it should be like, a checkbox when your customizing your ship, like an on off thing, where swapping hull skins resets the hull visually.

  • @daringclarky I wouldn't mind paying 10k...got that back in less than an hour...even less than half an hour

  • @schwammlgott knowing my luck I'd pay 10k and then put a hole in it as I leave Port haha.

Eitherway though I'd love to just be able to do it. If push came.to shove I'd even pay 10k. :)

  • @dvlambetking yeah that would be good too. Kinda makes sense too.

battle scars gives us and our ships character so people know not to mess with the old players

  • @closinghare208 I agree and thats nice to have.
But some prefer to have a pristine ship.

I think given we are captains of our ships we should have a say in the condition it appears.

That way you can leave your battle scars on show or you can hide them away.

My wheel looks ugly with planks for handles. I love my paint job but its all come off in places. I think my ship looks more menacing pristine than worn. Thats totally dependant on your cosmetics mind, but all i want is player choice :)

ok I mean if you use Blige rat wheel the planks don't seem so bad to add to that wheel

  • @daringclarky

There is an option already to do this, it's called 'scuttle'. Nice shiny new ship. Transfer your supplies to a barrel or rowboat first and remember where it is if losing them concerns you.

I myself quite like the 'lived in' look as the session progresses..

  • @wagstr Has the right idea - you guys are pining for something that we already have access to.

  • @daringclarky I can stand behind this, personally I love my battle look and yet can get that some people rather have a new paint job without the need to reposition in the world or transfer your supplies.

  • @cotu42

Wot, spend 10K and have to go visit a shipwright? Still a hassle.. I would rather scuttle if I did need a new ship cos the in-laws were coming round for fish supper but that's just me.

  • @wagstr

That seems like a hassle to you, yet sinking your ship; moving the supplies into a storage crate, placing it somewhere, sailing back, putting the supplies back into the ship... doesn't? People tend to pass by an outpost to cash in, there is a gameplay reason to be at an outpost and at that point it isn't much of a hassle to talk to the lady at the docks. Your alternative solution is actually a bigger hassle in my books than a purchase, whether it is worth the money is up to you... as it goes for all the cosmetics in the game.

Personally I would do neither of these options, both seem like a hassle and not worth the effort to make my ship look all nice again. Yet shouldn't the game introduce some of these gold sinks for people to spend their money on? It doesn't influence the game-play in any way, it would provide you a way to patch up your cosmetic value of your ship for a gold price, to me sounds perfectly inline with the games concept and idea of horizontal progress; gold being only spent on cosmetics. You can keep your battled look for free, take the effort to sink your ship and restock for free or pay a lady to just make you look all pretty again.

You act like 10k is a lot of money, while there are people with millions in their wallet not knowing what to do with it. It might be way cheaper if it was introduced Rare would decide on how much it would cost. I don't know why anyone would be against this option being introduced, it wouldn't cost much to implement, maybe a small animation of particles around the ship and voila looks brand new. It would require the ship to be fully repaired most likely and near enough to the outpost like to change the cosmetics on the ship.

  • @cotu42

I wouldn't dream of doing it either and you misunderstand if you think i'm against it. I just spent a over a million on a new ship so agree 10K is neither here nor there. I was simply pointing out you can get a new ship if you want one already and going back to find your supplies could be a little adventure in itself. Options..

  • @wagstr and this would add to the options while not negatively impacting the game state, therefore in my opinion sounds like a good addition?

I feel like some people on the forums just like to shout down any suggestions that they didn't come up with/don't agree with. Personally most of the suggestions I see here, I'm indifferent towards them whether it would happen or not. This is one of those, I don't really mind either way, it would be a nice addition.

  • @octopus-lime I shut down and express my discontent enough on these forums, but I look at it from a game-play perspective and find it important to judge the ideas on their merits. People tell me often enough that I am just here to be the boo man that just disagrees to disagree and therefore find it important to also support ideas that actually could be a positive contribution to the game; not just be a nah-sayer.

For me personally this change wouldn't do much, I wouldn't use it and yet I understand that it could be an aspect some find important or enjoy having. Additionally I do believe that the game needs some ways for people to spend their gold and for those reasons I support this idea even if it isn't one for my personal experience.

Scuttling is an absolute chore if you are stocked up.

Thats like someone putting a post for a 1 person ship and the response is...There is...its called a rowboat!

Suggestions put forward are for stuff currently not in the game.
There is ways around it sure, but im suggesting something official such as repairing cosmetic damage :)

  • @daringclarky

Sure. I never said I disagreed, just pointed out that there is a way to do this for the benefit of those who might not realise, not the salty old sea dogs!

You wouldnt use it but i sure would.
    Many others would too.
Its brought up quite frequently sometimes when ive spoke on mic with people.

Eitherway...such a small gameplay addition but it cant be anything but good. I want a new shiny ship, thisn allows that.

People that dont just end up saving coin.

  • @daringclarky you have my support on this idea, think it is a good addition to the game ;) though we disagree on others XD

You are right though and that is a way around it and i appreciate you sharing it.

I just would like to buy things other than clothing.
I would like to take my battered ship in for a repair and stuff :)

  • I think this idea is pretty bad, the more damaged your ship is the longer you're playing in the session. So this kind of what shows the time you spend in this session. (and not been sunk) As the game is ''session progression'' based.

They should add more potential in the game, as there is nothing to aim for but to check out the new ''content'' they add each time. Unless you like to grind for looks, its like showing off how fancy your car is while your washing dishes in a dank restaurant ur entire life. It doesn't make sense

Its cool mate :) It happens! haha
Sometimes things on the forum can get heated but its only because we both love the game. :)

Shows the time spent in the session?
Say that to the guy i ambushed as he freshly spawned in!

I dont sink them but its just my way of saying hello! haha

  • @daringclarky
I agree that killing other players in the game is the most fun to do. But this game is based upon session progression. and you basically show your progression on how damaged your ship is.

I saw no one pointing it out and felt like pointing it out.

  • @masterpost Soon as you sink though the progression on your ship is wiped. So it doesnt really work well for the ship.

Its the cosmetics the ship wears and your titles and clothing that define your progression.

The only sessional progression part on your ship i suppose is yput resource count.

You can usually tell who is more sessionally progressed from the fact you fight them til you are out of supplies and they still keep coming for you.

Id be in favor of being able to repair my ship for a fee.
If you want to keep your war scars on your ship for progression the good thing is you still can! You can wear it with pride.
Even better, not everybody will be wearing this and repairing so not only does it show your ship progression...its also makes your ship stand out!

Its a good thing and it doesnt take anything away :)

  • @daringclarky ey bruh it may be Gucci but it's not made of titatnium. U don't want scratches then keep away from trouble.

  • @diabeuzpiekla By that logic just given...I suppose are you saying if i dent my car Im not allowed to visit a mechanic?

Ships of the 17th century were the vehicles of that time.
They would need to be brought in to be repaired from time to time.
Unless you want to visit davy jones’s locker.

Theres nothing wrong in visiting the shipwright. Afterall it is their job.

  • Making it just a button to hit, for free, in the shipyard customisation chest is easy enough and isn't changing anything in the game. I'm all for it. No need of making it cost anything, aside from RP point of view. If you think there should be some kind of cost anyway, why not additional planks or a full plank-crate sold to a carpenter lady while the ship is near ?
