Replace gamertag option

  • So I was informed there is a replace gamertag option in SoT, however, I seem to be struggling to find it. I've looked under gameplay, HUD, everywhere. The most I have been able to find is the "Show nameplates above my crewmates" But I'm not wanting that. Can I get some assistance?

  • Streamers use this mode to hide the names of themselves, and the players they encounter. I believe it's called "Streamer mode," something like that.

  • hud

    name visibility

    hide gamertags from me
    hide guild names from me
    hide ship names from me

You can't hide your name from others though except
    "hide my gamertag on banners
    hide my shipname from other"

which will just be captaincy banners

I recommend hiding your name on banners, some will assume you're a streamer but that gives you some privacy from streamers as far as your ship banner goes. At least your tag won't be on full display through the spyglass.

Hey fellow pirate, I appreciate this, I do, but I was more so looking for the replace option like how some youtubers/twitch streamers have it.

That's how to do it. It will change opponent's names to random names rather than showing gamertags.

  • @wolfmanbush but what if you A) want to see OTHERS names, as they are, both enemy and crew alike, & B) only want to change YOUR name, as stated above (as many other streamers are currently able to)?
I want to see other's ship names, too, and am aware of the "remove my ship name from banner" option.

I used to be able to toggle an actual "streamer mode" option, and before that, there was a "replace gametag" option. Now, in all my settings, neither is an option.

Being a streamer myself, Id like to have the option to only change my name, as one once could before.
Even if I select "hide my name from my banner" option, from what Ive seen, that doesn't help when they see me face to face. Id like to avoid stream sniping when possible, when Im live and without having to delay my stream. It seems like the good old "replace my name" option has been removed...which is weird as I see other streamers with temp replaced names...

  • @haefillie The option is "Hide Gamertags from Me", which will replace actual names with a random one from a list. This will apply to everyone to prevent stream sniping.

Hiding your name while being able to see names of other players won't prevent stream sniping. Someone who wants to snipe will know exactly who to message for a crew invite so they can mess around with you.
