Safer Seas suggestions and request for custom menues

  • Hello

Currently i'm enjoying my time in Safer Seas. I'm the type of guy that loves looting, questing and messing around on my sloop for hours on end and really just can't deal with the stress of PvP. I suck under pressure and lose all hand-eye co-ordination, to the point where i can't find my damn weapons or food in the menues (shortcuts are even worse). I'd like to state a few requests, on the risk of being ignored or berated for.

    Custom menues:

    • I'd love to have an option to customize the radials. The overwatch radials are where atleast i can function. Press radial button, move mouse left or right for sub-menues. Would be cool if i could just use that instead of "space for quest", "E for throwables", etc. Adding to that, i'd like to specify placements of items or actions on those radials, just to personalize it a bit more.

    Safer Seas:

    • Seperate Profile for Safer Seas instead of a cut down experience: Allow me to have the full experience, like personal boats, Emissarys, Promotions and everything else. Just make it two profiles, where the Safer Seas Profile doesn't carry over to Higher Seas and the other way around. Well, maybe allow HS to SS, considering it is the more difficult setting. I find it to be a shame having to "rent" a sloop instead of using my personal one. Why not just allow me to use it? I spend time and some real coin on making it pretty, just for it to be locked away in the bully seas :(

I understand the whole argument "this is the game" and i like this game a lot, just can't deal with the PvP and getting mugged. There just isn't an alternative out there for this experience sadly and while Safer Seas was improved, it's not the whole pie, the filling is missing.

  • Why reduce your efforts I safer seas and has to repeat from scratch in high seas? Because of two profiles

Just say what you want. Captain ship I safer seas but mainly. You want to decorate it and show off to the npc :)

  • @burnbacon

I also want to do emissary stuff in my pretty captained ship. Those got satisfying loot!

My suggestion regarding two profiles would double your effort since you have two saves to work on, but it would be like in some MMO, where you have characters on PVP, Hardcore and Normal servers and people still grind those to no end. I'd stick to safer seas, others might want the thrill of higher seas. Everyone gets their bacon and nobody has to quit the game. The last time i played SoT was 10 months ago or so and i stoped simply because i spawned, got a crate and got sunk by a brig before i even saw a coin. :(

Edit: Now that you mentioned it, could we have NPC crew on Safer Seas? I'd love to customize those and have em bucket water for me. Another way to take more of my money.

  • @dankepke

I do like the customized radials idea. There's some things on the first radial I never use, and a couple things on the 2nd would be more handy to have more handy lol.

They already have it for emotes.
It could work in high seas too!

Of course...getting it to save between sessions might be tricksy... (Glares at captaincy launch that wasn't saving cosmetics, the recent emotes disappearing off the radial, pc keybind resets lololol)

Regardless of separate profiles, reward should still scale with difficulty, and PVEVP will always be more difficult than PVE alone.
Talking of MMOs, World of Warcraft ditched the PVE/PVP servers concept and traded it for a PVP opt-in system that gives additional perks, and rewards players better if they choose to take the risk of playing that way. Sounds pretty familiar to me!

In the end, safer seas/high seas feel more like a casual/ranked sort of dynamic, and only makes sense to give more enticing goodies to reward player's efforts.

It's up to players to make that effort if they want said goodies.

  • @dankepke Im surprised no one has pointed this out yet but you can create custom "hotkeys" or shortcuts for any action in-game. Just go to keyboard and mouse on settings.

  • @Klear-Kote Your post has been removed as it goes against the Forum Rules and Pirate Code.

    ALWAYS:

Be courteous. Don’t insult players you don’t know. If humour is the intent, remember that this can be lost or misinterpreted online, and words can very easily offend. Be mindful of what you’re saying and if someone asks a question, see if you can help them out as you’d appreciate being helped out yourself if the roles were reversed.

Name calling, personal attacks and using derogatory language against Community Members, Rare Employees, Global Moderators or Deckhands is not acceptable. Using such language will result in a warning, then temporary ban from the Forums and a final warning. If the action is persistent or increasingly aggressive, a permanent ban from the Forums will be issued.

Please read and abide by the Forum Rules and Pirate Code in future.

    Thank you.

  • @itzeggward that i know, but again, not my cup of tea. A radial like in OW would suii someone like me the most.

I only player safer and unless im streaming (which for SOT might get rarer since the update) or with friends its the bog standard design, so its not "showing off to NPCs"

Hired help, thats actually a decent idea, you can "buy" different NPC helpers providing you got space on your ship, have em like 3 tiers, T1 can only do one task, T2 two tasks and T3 three tasks, tasks avalible would be fight enemies, repair and bail

I feel though Rare are approaching it wrong though, instead of rewarding players for risking it in high seas it (to me) feels like they are punishing players for not playing high seas, which makes me wanna play the game less tbh

  • As much as I'm absolutely against the presence of emissaries in Safers Seas (risks/rewards), I still don't see the problem with the harbour master's office. With the recent changes to the Safers Seas, it's not unreasonable to think that one day the harbour master's office will be there.
There's a lesson for everyone: never say 'never'...

  • As for having two profiles: one for the high seas and one for the Safers Seas, I honestly don't see the advantages.
Contrary to what most people say about the Safers Seas, they're not ONLY for dictators, but also for families and players who just want to chill out.
    An example of complication:

    • You're a new player, you want to do the Tall Tales. If you want to do all the promotions on both accounts, you'll have to do no fewer than 100 Tall Tales. That's just enormous. And I'm only talking about the tales... Imagine all the promotions....
  • Custom radial sounds interesting, only risk i guess is it is more complicated than just mapping individual buttons and may end up with people losing access to certain items if not done properly.

Safer seas is just a big no, recent changes from devs demonstrate their intent even more so that they just want it to be a training platform

Have you tried things like the roar, very minimal pvp over there
Also just to add, I love pvp (much better at naval than tdm)..but sometimes in the heat of battle I still get flustered and end up waving a bucket at someone rather than pulling out the weapon i wanted, much more so when solo for some reason just feels like all is on the line. So perhaps try lfgs, discords etc to group up

  • @hiradc
Playing in groups isn't my thing. While i'm used to playing with friends, playing on my sloop alone setting my own pace is what i enjoy more. And trust me, when we play as party, you don't know which of us is worse off. lol
