Krakens so Scary, They have Skeletons: They've Been in Front of us all along! Kraken Lore, Study, and Theories

  • Krakens Have Skeletons!?

    so these guys...

a lot of them, right? but that's impossible. octopuses nor squids have skeletons.

well, first off, the Kraken is a myth. there is no confirmed anatomy of the creature. it is just as believable to say a Kraken has bones as much as it is to say that they exist in the first place.

now there are hints that Rare's version of the kraken does have a skeletal features:

    alt text

these could just be a colossal squid's natural claws located on the club-shaped ends of their tentacles. however, the way they are shaped and how big the claws are in the image makes it seem as if they intersect toward a center like finger bones are to a hand. that, and a colossal squid's claws are located on the pads of their club-shaped tentacles, not the sides, and they dont extend outward either; they hook.

also, most of these skeletons are found at an island specifically called "Krakens Fall." now these skeletons dont have arms at all, but than again, placing eight sets of bones in a row next to these skeletons would be a dead giveaway.

so look at the first image again and imagine two tentacles extending from just below each eye, one extending from between both eyes (take a look at the curve between the beak and the brow), and three more large ones below the jaw (perhaps the same three we see in the second image with the claws).

need more evidence? notice the beak:

    alt text

EDIT: so ive been working on a piece of art that i hope you guys and gals will like. it is basically what i believe to be the Krakens design based on the skeletons mentioned earlier. plus, it's my first concept art for the game so i hope you like it!

there you have it fellow pirates.

Your Kraken. there, waiting for you to figure it out all along. But how many are still alive?

The Great Age of Kraken Hunting:

    alt text

a kraken with a beak, a small boat with three people, and a beach with even more people on it.

looking closely at the kraken, one of its legs is detached from its body and darker than the others.

now the boat with the people on it. one person is reaching out like the people on the beach as if in celebration. the boat itself shows us the time period where these paintings were drawn.

notice that on Kraken's Fall, a large skull is stuck on the bow of a wrecked ship, implying that the creature was struck by the bow as it was alive.

perhaps there was a great many of these Krakens as man was sailing the seas. the painting could be a representing a day of celebration. but a celebration of what? of a legendary creature emerging from the depths and worshiped like a deity....

    alt text

or is it because of a successful and bountiful hunt? bringing up the detached arm again, is this why most of the skeletons have no limbs, because their limbs offered either good meat? are Kraken arms the most valuable trophy for defeating them? were they believed to have some magical properties? we've already heard of the Kraken gameplay including some form of health per tentacle through data-mining, so slaying all of the Kraken's tentacles is the most effective way to defeat them and that's probably why they are missing from the skeletal body?

or, again, placing eight sets of bones in a row next to these skeletons would be a dead giveaway.

so my theory is that there was a great many of the Krakens. but their population was definitely a problem and they obviously were not deities if most of them were slaughtered and hunted as if they were prey. as they were killed, the arms were taken as trophies or just because they were good to eat since their skulls are already treated like trophies since some of them are mounted on man-made structures.

if these skeletons do indeed belong to a Kraken, than a great many of them died in a short amount of time.

  • Some very interesting digging you've done here!

It would be awesome to find out there's more than one! However, maybe it's as simple as there's only one left after whatever took place at Kraken's Fall?

Only one way to find out, we'll get Kraken Hunting in March!

  • lets figure it out in few days

  • @limpleglenny

that is actually something ive been curious about as well.

take a look at the third picture.

a few may have escaped the "great hunt" that took place on Kraken's Fall.

  • @mysticdragon297 Well..you've certainly done your research!

When talk started about the kraken, my brother and I talked about the idea of taking a limb as a trophy as opposed to killing the creature as a whole. So, to see some sort of hinting at removing limbs makes me wonder if the Kraken can't be killed (which is how I'd like it).

I reckon there's a chance of 2 or 3 krakens, that escaped the hunt, as opposed to one in the game!

  • just added more content to the topic, featuring concept art of the Kraken based on the skeleton structure mentioned earlier. hope you like it!

  • Love the explanations and the digging. It will be interesting to see how much of the Kraken lore will be taken in accordance to all the other lore that has been around the great creature. I think it is imperative not to assume it has all the structures of a squid. The Kraken is listed in many different lore down through the ages.

Now thinking about its destruction...we do know it will have an instance mentality and I do not think we will be "killing" it as we may think. Obviously there will be some kind of death and p**f a new one to fight.

So anyways I guess what I am driving at is this...

I can't wait to kill that sucker! or all its suckers...

sips his Kraken rum awaiting the hunt

  • Might the bones be a karnath?

  • I don't really see a Kraken with a spine looking cool, I mean yah no one knows at all what these things look like besides that they have tentacles, and Krakens are pretty much giant octopi or squids I don't know. Right now I'm actually really hoping that those don't belong to the Kraken because then because they confirmed a Kraken those might confirm another big monster coming to the game. I love the lore their adding though thanks for digging a lot up.

  • @blair187

while that would be really cool, unlike a Rare's kraken, Rare's Karnath does have visible anatomy; in which he has teeth, fangs and a long snake-like body.

but, still, it would be cool to have a sea monster in the game similar to Karnath.

Also im not sure about this one, but a kraken basicly is a huge octopus right? I highly doubt those have bones

    This supports the idea: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken#Appearance_and_origins

The kraken is also depicted to have spikes on its suckers.

as i've said before, the Kraken is a myth. it is just as believable to say that it has bones as saying that it exists at all.

  • @salt-ya-bumm

the skeleton from the head to the end of the spine is fairly large alrady. add tentecles to it and you may get a monster that is as big as one and a half Galleons.

but i get what you are saying. it would be just as cool if these creatures were some kind of other monster, and the Kraken still remains just another monster in the game to go along with them.

  • @mysticdragon297 Hey something I just thought about with the lore about the painting on the wall with the tree man boat and kraken with a skull on it. Do you think that there was a time people sacrificed themselves to the kraken and that's what that skull is, because it almost seems like they're praising the kraken.

  • @mysticdragon297
Nice Theorie, but I have my own theory's!

@univalvewolf976 said in I FOUND THE KRACKEN!:

Maybe the Kraken has drawn a Selfportrait wiht the bones of his prey

Source of this crazy idea :D
