Unable to play due to CyanBeard error.

  • Hello everyone!

I'm new to the Sea of Thieves. I purchased the game years ago, but never actually played it. Some friends recently got me into it, and yesterday we played all night until like 5am. It was such a blast!

I was eager to play again, but when I tried connecting to the game this morning, I received 2 different errors:

    • Your connection to the Xbox network has been lost. Please check your connection and try again. (Cyanbeard)
    • Sea of Thieves failed to setup a crew session. Please try again. (Coarsebeard)

I verified that I have a stable connection to the internet, and I am connected to the Xbox live account. I looked on the website for server status, which says the servers are up. I tried restarting my PC, and I also reset the internet. None of these things have solved the issue, I am still unable to connect to a game session, and I am able to connect to other games on my PC and play with no connectivity issues so I believe it to be a game issue and not an issue with my internet connection.

Any help would be appreciated! If I can avoid having to completely reinstall the game, that would be great.

  • Reinstalling the game seems to have resolved the issue. (I play on Steam)

  • I take it back, I'm having the same issue again. I was playing when suddenly I was disconnected with the Coarsebeard error. My internet connection is perfectly fine, and I did not disconnect from anything else. Is there a fix for this? I don't want to have to re-install for the second time.
