Suggestion: Rowboats with sails

  • Just like the title suggests, I think there should be a variant of the rowboat that has a sail. I'd imagine you could raise/lower the mast, and it'd be down when attached to a ship. I think this has lots of potential, and would be a lot of fun.

  • @greyblood511 That's called a sloop ;-)

  • They could make rowboats better by adding auto rowing and speed them up a bit, maybe add another feature to them

as far as a mini sloop goes it's just not worth the dev resources.

Solo sloop is becoming more and more unrealistic against larger crews, as far as fighting goes.

The skill requirement for success as a solo sloop in combat is going up and up and it's going lower and lower for bigger crews. That doesn't even factor in the many bugs and performance struggles that impact solo slooping more in combat.

A mini sloop is just not viable against crews that aren't completely new or inexperienced in pvp.

There is a reason that so many solo sloopers (that engage in challenging pvp) have quit or solo less. It's a dying style in the direction that the devs have been going.

No point in making another boat to PVE in, imo.

  • I've always wanted a super fast little 'Cutter'-like vessel for solos with like 1 swivel gun, or.. maybe no cannons at all.

However, I get the feeling that 90% of the player base would just use it to outrun literally any and all potential threats, thus hurting the 10% of the player base that is comprised of players who actually want to play the game as intended, i.e. pirates who like to steal things from other players. đŸŽâ€â˜ ïž

The flip side of it would be TDMers using it to chase down all other ship types to spawn camp them until they scuttle. Now that I think about it.. I really want a Cutter.

  • How about adding a mini sail to rowboats using wood and cloth found on islands or in barrels?

To build the sail, press and hold X (5-10 seconds), and it appears at the back. It’d be fragile, prone to breaking at any time, and wouldn’t last long.

Since the sail is small, it’d always be set and ready to go. The rowboat wouldn’t move unless you row, and if you jump off, it’ll stay in place or move slowly. The sail would automatically adjust to catch the wind, moving left to right.

To keep it balanced, the sail could break after some use, or if hit by a sword or shot, ensuring it doesn’t become overpowered and remains a temporary option, so players don’t just rely on rowboats instead of their ships.

Nah. This is not a crafting/gathering game.

@guildar9194 No, it’s a sandbox game! It already lets you build a fire using wood and a lantern on cooking spots, so adding a mini sail fits perfectly with the game’s creative freedom.đŸ™ƒđŸ€ŠđŸ˜… 😂😂

    Agree.

It's called a rowboat for a reason. Adding a sail would make it a sailboat.
