Anyone else play on PC but use an XBox controller?

  • As the title says.
I play on a decent PC using an ultra wide 1440P monitor and it looks amazing. However I use a controller as I find it more relaxing. Plus my keyboard is a laptop style keyboard more for typing and Im so out of using keyboard and mouse Im not that good at it anymore.

Is there anyone else who plays PC but uses Xbox controller?

  • Quite a few people, myself included. You'll hear a lot of people telling you that you are giving up your "PC advantage" by using a controller, these people are liars, charlatans and frauds.

  • @stroro my PC friends use their controller because they say [mod edited] the keyboard 😂 and you know, Xbox controllers are really great :)

  • @boxcar-squidy I mean, I could care less about how people play but I definitely agree that mouse + keyboard provides better + faster accuracy and aiming.

  • I use my elite controller

  • Both. I steer with a controller. Everything else keyboard.

  • I use an Xbox One Elite controller on PC... with just one paddle underneath mapped to the "A" button.

I get that aiming is better with a mouse but, personally, I just can't get on with WASD for movement. I feel like I have finer character movement control with an analogue stick.

    Edit:

Also, having rumble feedback is a huge plus

  • I don’t play on PC, but if I did I would use my controller, no question - I just feel too disconnected from games when I use keyboard and mouse, regardless of the aiming advantage - it feels like clicking to select enemies rather than pulling a trigger and shooting them, if that makes sense? I would miss the tactile, solid feel of the controller, not to mention the feedback! Or can you get ‘rumble’ from a keyboard or mouse these days?

    Yep, this too!

  • @realstyli Hmm. To each his own. I've been using WASD for so long now it's perfectly natural.

I do miss vibration though. Hoping that becomes a standard part of mouses one day lol.

  • I use both. I also play on both xbone and pc.

  • My boyfriend does. I'll never understand, mostly because I haven't played games with a controller in almost a decade. WASD forever!

  • @stroro sometimes when doing OoS or GH voyages, it's somehow relaxing

  • Yes I do. This game isn’t a game of reactions and split seconds so to say you need a mouse is silly.

    well said!

I am playing with controller on pc and I win more fights then I lose

  • I like playing on my XB1 best because I can get the HDR experience but I play on my PC when I can't take over the living room and find that I prefer to keep using my controller when I do.

  • @stroro me too.
I'm more comfortable with movement using a controller. But to aim. I rather use the mouse.
But I rarely play on PC

I'm firmly in the use whatever you want camp. I agree with you on faster aiming accuracy using KB+M, but when the hit detection is as spotty as it is in SoT who cares about accuracy?

  • @stroro yes..... this one:

    :D

  • i find mouse and keyboard more immersive

  • I’ve been pondering getting a joystick for the WASD and using mouse... old school is the new school?

  • Keyboard and mouse has a massive advantage in hand to hand combat. It takes a controller about 1.5 seconds to turn 360 while a mouse almost instant in comparison..

I use controller nearly all the time but keep the mouse near by to shooting long distances.

I've never got on with WASD, I used to use the arrow keys as they are lay out in a more natural way.

  • Use xbox controller and play mostly on PC. Controller vibration is handy for counting paces in the treasure riddles.

  • I haven’t got the game yet but that is exactly my plan.

  • Aye, at times it's far better for the hand controller than using my G13 and Mouse

  • Anyone in a PC who uses a controller is a traitor and deserve no quarter from the PCMR.

I do until we get into pvp. Just more relaxing. If heading to a Skull fort or we get attacked, I set the controller down and use M&K.

I predominately play on Xbox though.

  • @stroro I use controller all the time so I can sit back and relax

  • I use my controller if i just wanna kick my feet up on my desk and zone out , but otherwise, if im doing research and watching videos and such, ill use my keyboards, because YOU CANT USE A XBOX CONTROLLER WITH INTERNET EDGE YOU SILLY GOOSE!

plus...for a good wired controller for anyone looking for one, get a xbox one afterglow controller if you like glow in the dark RGB stuff, $40 and wired, and you can swap the wires out if it goes back or breaks, and you can use the cord to charge your phones and such!

  • @stroro
I mostly play on Xbox because I just like hanging back on the couch and using the big tv. However I also have a gf that likes to do the same, so sometimes I voluntarily switch to PC. Even though I have a Razer Blackwidow keyboard and Razer Mamba TE mouse attached to it, I almost exclusively use the Xbox controller apart from typing every once in a while when people don't have mics.

The game is just chill and works perfect with controller.

  • I play with xbox controller on my PC which is connected to 49'' 4k TV. Couch, Relax, Play ;) I have forgotten how to use my keyboard and mouse in games since 2012.

  • Bought the Sea of Thieves controller and the original wireless receiver for added audio transmission just for that, chilling in front of the big screen buuuuuuuut the turn speed is so slow on controller that I feel like I'm controlling a semi truck instead of a human being. Plus if you plug in the headset into the controller the microphone can't be set loud enough, seems like the driver is missing the +20db boost.
So until that is getting fixed I wasted $100 on hardware I don't use. 🤣

  • One of the things Rare did really well with SoT is to use the rumble and the xbox controller very effectively to give in-game actions a tactile feel to them. From the vibration when turning the wheel to the feel of the triggers when using the shovel or weapons. I find it a more enjoyable experience when playing. I'm not saying a controller is a better way to play, just that I enjoy it more. There is a slight aiming precision advantage with KB + M, there is a slight movement and positioning advantage and a slight sailing advantage with a controller so in terms of advantages it's a matter of personal preference. I believe (and have yet to be convinced otherwise) that tactics and communication are much more important than aiming precision when it comes to winning fights. Tactics and communication are not dependent on input device.

You have nice little things with a controller as vibration feedback on explosions, falls, middlepoint on steering wheel etc. which I find even more immersive.

I play on PC with xbox controller, I like it a lot, don't see any disadvantage against mouse players, I'm often winner in combats - that's why I can't understand all the frustrating posts of crying console players about pc advantage!
