The arena for sea of thieves next year isn’t that a gladiator arena because arenas usually contain fighting and killing and if that’s the case I’ll be joining the arena.

Before one can enter the arena, one have to apply in writing. If you make more than two grammatical mistakes, ignoring punctuation marks, you will be redirected to the fountain of manuscripts instead of the arena. You can't get out of there until you've sorted James Joyce's Ulysses words alphabetically and arranged them lengthwise.

From another thread: the arena will be a separate game mode but progress will be intertwined with adventure mode (ie. SoT as we now know it). Upon entering the arena, players will immediately be able to see other ships. All crews will be given the same treasure maps. You can choose to head to uncontested islands or you can choose to contest islands that other ships are headed to.

@xX-Elite-KB a lot of good answers here, the lowdown, as far as we know is:
- Separate load in option from the main menu, meaning we now choose from adventure which is the game as we know it and arena which is the new mode
- Pirate Hot Tub! (areas to wait out between rounds?)
- Same area is available to find, but not enter in adventure mode
- Multiple crews load into a world with the exact same maps
- There is then a race to see who can dig up and cash in the most chests within that round
- Awards then handed out based on placing within the round
- A fourth trading company enters the fray through Arena - meaning Pirates now have the possibility of becoming Legend through the Arena company, as well as two others from Adventure - so now we are in a place where some Legends will have earned their place amongst us through a third of their time spent in Arena.
- New cosmetics can be earned through Arena, which then pass through to Adventure
