Sea of Thieves Trash!!

  • Now that I have your attention, lets talk about trash, or more precisely "Treacherous Plunder".

I've recently started working towards getting this done and obviously sitting around fishing and not getting the trash after awhile makes a person think. Why don't we find any of these things washed up on shore? I do plenty of sailing from time to time, just sailing around and gathering everything off of the islands. You can find every kind of crate, treasure and even tridents. Why not an old boot or hat? Why not a fish skeleton?

Thinking about that made me think about why we don't see these things in shipwrecks as well? If the ship went down, isn't it probable that a pirate lost his boot or his hat? Even possibly a skull because someone died in the fight? Just seems like it would make sense for these things to be RNG in the open world like everything else.

Does anyone have any suggestions or criticism?

  • It makes sense but it's weakening one of the few things with consistent standards in the game

Personally I never want to see Hunter's made easier. Add fish down the road, add weight and an emissary, add cosmetics, but never make it easier.

It's the unicorn of grinding and dedication and I'd hate to see it sacrificed for convenience.

Even at a low RNG rate, maybe it "weakens" the difficulty, but hardly. Was Treacherous Plunder part of the game before or after all the different fish were added? I had a discussion with some players that had finished this long ago, and they said it feels a lot harder now than when they did it. (still don't really care that it's difficult)

Adding things to the Hunters call wasn't part of the discussion and don't wanna get off course on that.

All of the fish currently in-game, in addition to the Treacherous Plunder, all of the other meats, and all of the non-Banana fruits were added at the same time.

  • @beerisicecold Go on Tribute Peak, in the centre of the island there is a small lake, fish there, you can see spawning fish try to get your bail but the fishes here are bugged. After a while you can see spawning the trash ;)

I'm not necessarily making this suggestion to make it easier for myself or anyone else. It just feels like it would fit properly in the game everywhere washed ashore randomly.

  • @BeerIsIceCold Have you ever stopped to notice that cannonballs (of any kind) never appear washed up on beaches like the other supplies. Why do you suppose that is? 🤔

So you are assuming treacherous plunder is supplies? It's a piece of loot (not worth much but still). Maybe rethink your comment before commenting.

I'm going to spell it out for you, since it's clearly not obvious.

It's weight. Treacherous Plunder is entirely composed of items that typically sink, the same way cannonballs sink. Fruits and Planks wash up on shore because they float.

Because they are much heavier than planks or bananas, so they sink instead of washing up.

Loot sinks. We know this. Barrels sink. We still find loot floating in water. We still find loot washed ashore. Theirs literally no reason that treacherous plunder doesn't show up randomly in the world like the rest of loot. Argue amongst yourselves I guess as I've made my point and hopefully the devs have seen it as a positive thing.

  • @beerisicecold Small tip you might not know, there is a shallow pond on Tributepeak Island (shores of gold tall tale island) that dont spawn fish, only treacherous plunder.

  • Well I would agree with you except clickbait generic titles

  • @BeerIsIceCold I'm a 5-year veteran pirate with more knowledge than most - I wasn't assuming anything; I know EXACTLY what treacherous plunder is and always have. I was simply making a connection from it to other things. Perhaps it is YOU who should rethink your comments and assumptions before replying.

@Blam320 @mferr11 It's heavy and sinks is your explanation? Yet you can carry 10 cannonballs, 5 throwables, a combination of 10 CCBs/PCBs, and 10 fireworks/flares. Furthermore, chests full of gold and trinkets can still wash up on shore?

For these reasons, your own logic is flawed. I think it has more to do with gameplay design/balance/limitations than actual weight.

Hey, not sure if you remember, but you're the one who didn't clearly spell out what you meant, and left everyone else to come up with their own assumptions.

  • I can't be only one who read the title and went.."here we go again"

Click bait post but it was actually true lol.
nice to see the upvotes on agreeing with this suggestion.

  • I think it would be great to have other opportunities to get the Treacherous Plunder.
But it should be at least as rare to find as rare fish (one of these days I'll find the last two Sand Battlegills …).

I absolutely agree. A low RNG matched behind other loot spawning in the world. Finding something would make it feel kind of special even though it's not worth hardly a thing lol
In the end its like a small added immersion to the sandbox world.

I think I spelled it out very clearly. It was in response to this:

I was merely expanding upon the conversation.
