Boarding Axe and Mace

  • I'd like to see these 2 new melee weapons implemented to make the boarding/Ship defence a little more interesting. The Boarding axe would be a slow and heavy hitting melee weapon with a secondary attack that latches onto hulls. This would let players board without using the ladder but would make a loud thump each time the axe hits the hull. Now on the other side, to defend against boarders a cool weapon would be a mace. While not quicker than the axe, attacks deals a small amount of knockback and less damage. However the secondary attack is powered up like a sword thrust and uppercuts with the mace, delivering a powerful up-and-back knockback to knock players up and over the rail of the ship. I think with these implemented, players could get a good idea of what kind of players other pirates are based on the weapon they use.

While I wanted to focus on those 2 melee weapons, I cant help but mention how cool a crossbow would be as a stealth alternative to firearms. Obviously a tedious reload, but hefty damage and stealth to make up for it. Maybe even a special rope & arrow function for reeling yourself into positions?

  • @nightmare2772 You don't climb with axes and you most certainly wouldn't climb with a big, heavy, slow 2h melee weapon. Boarding axes were relatively small and used to breaking down barricades, doors and rigging. If you want a tool to climb ships/walls, climbing picks are what you want.

nope no mace mate pirate game maces weren't around back they where out of fashion at that point in time then and a boarding axe is used to chop through the ropes and doors and maybe could be used for the mast and this idea has been made a lot of times before

well climbing picks weren't around in pirate times

  • @closinghare208 I imagine they had some kind of pickaxes or tools similar to that. If they can't do climbing picks then they could maybe add grappling hooks into the game, which could work similarly to harpoons but for players.

  • Harpoon. Blunderbuss. Cannons.

Harpoon a ship to bring yourself closer. Blunderbuss gives knockback. Shoot yourself to the ship via cannons (which btw if you had an axe equipped that would give a very unfair advantage if you just shoot yourself at the side and climb that way - you’re supposed to use the ladders or hitch a mermaid if you fail to do so and try again).

    We don’t need new weapons.

  • @closinghare208 Maces were in fact around, simply called bludgeons and while a little more primitive they were still a reinforced wood shaft with a metal often studded head which is by definition, a mace.

yes but they aren't common pirate weapons and in pirate times they where called clubs

yeah they had grappling hooks in pirate times so sure grappling hooks could work

  • @closinghare208 Regardless, a Mace/Club/bludgeon or whatever you want to call it could absolutely be implemented. Besides, were there really krakens, Undead skeleton ships, and secret magical organizations? No, to imply that it all has to be historically accurate doesn't make a lock of sense.

I mean for the characters should be historically accurate but the rest could or couldn't be
