1- Why is there so many skeletons on islands?

Because you are there, skeletons spawn at intervals because a player is near a spawnable surface, the island. Becoming faster navigating the island and finding your treasure will therefore mean you have less of them around. Also, if you are on one side of a decent side island... just running away can also help speed things up. Start killing them after you reached the spot you want to be in.

2- Why are the quest skeletons so easy to kill compared with the other ones?

This is based on your voyage level. In the beginning they have little health and they will become more tanky every 5 levels, with the strongest once you do Legendary Voyages, which have significantly more health. This allows the players to learn how to fight them properly. One of the very few differences between new and higher level players, though everyone can tag along with anyone, high or low.

As island skeletons are not bound by your voyage and will always spawn at the standard health amount, this therefore is either more, equal or less based on the voyage you are on.

3- Why do i have to kill plus 15 Skeletons(island ones and the ones that pop up) when i dig treasures?

When you hit a chest you have a chance to spawn up to 4 (I believe) skeletons of the voyage level (scaled ones), the old crew that is guarding their treasure so to speak. The others are island skeletons that are most likely there because you took a while to find the treasure.

4- Why the damage i do to the skeletons vary so much? (beteewn 5 to sometimes 12) i know the distante matters but....

Distance doesn't matter. They might be blocking your shot or you are dealing with different type of skeletons. We have a variety and knowing how to fight them is important, all these types come in unarmed, sword, flintlock, blunderbuss varients on the islands, EoR wearing ones are only found on the skeleton ships:

    • Bone Skeletons: White, standard nothing special.
    • Bushy Skeletons; Leaves growing in them. Take less damage from bullets, heal while wet, take more damage from cutlass.
    • Golden Skeletons; Extremely tanky, Rust when wet and will become rusty, taking more damage and slowing down. Take more damage from bullets/cannonballs, take a lot less damage from the cutlass (you can interupt their banana eating and eventually they will die). Advice, blow them up with kegs, cannonballs or get them wet and shoot them down.
    • Shadow Skeletons; Immune to damage during the night, Hold up your lantern to stun them and make them able to take damage. Believe they spawn with less health during the day, but I am not sure about this.
    • Keg Skeletons; Have a specific way of coming out of the ground (good for spotting) and are any of the above types and are suicide bombers. Tip: you can steal their keg with a harpoon.
    • Skeleton Captains; can be any of the above types of skeletons in a wave, will have a red name and will drop a skull. They have more health.
    • Skeleton Lord; Boss fights, have more health and special attacks. Usually are a specific type based on who you are facing.

I understand the need to keep it challenging but i think its too much sometimes!

The skeletons become very easy once you learn how to fight them. Using your environment to LoS gunners, using choke points or corners to hit multiple at once and knowing how to defeat the different types is just something every pirate needs to learn.

I hope this information helps in your quest to be the pirate you want to be. #BeMorePirate

  • @cotu42 Couldn't have said it better.

I wasn't aware Bushy Skeletons took less damage from bullets. I learned something today. Thank you for that post.

  • @cotu42 As I understand it, rando skeletons also get tanks as you level up.

  • @entspeak maybe I am just used to tanks then

I don't believe this is true. The 'ambient' skeletons that spawn independent of the quest level have between around 50-60 health (I can't remember the exact amount).

Specifically, they'll die to a sword lunge (which does 60 damage), but I can't remember if a pistol shot (which does 50 damage) kills them in one hit, hence why I'm uncertain whether they have 50 or 60 health. Can anyone confirm?
EDIT: I'm wrong about some of these numbers. Check out @ultmateragnarok 's post here for a pretty good breakdown on skeleton health:
Athena Skellie Fights Are A Little OP

Of course, oftentimes the 'quest related' skeletons will get mixed in with the 'ambient' skeletons, which can make it tricky to figure out how much health each skeleton has.

  • Wait until your doing Athenas matey... then the hoard of skellies really steps up a notch... id agree with most above accept ive had 5 skellies spawn around a chest many times....otherwise good stuff

  • @limbicfanatic As someone with a few pirate accounts at different levels, I can attest to the fact that it does appear to be true. The randos I get as a PL are much tougher than the ones I get with my pirates who are lower levels.

  • @cotu42 also the plant skellies move slower during the night

  • @limbicfanatic There are actually two types of ambient skeletons that can spawn. The ones you see the most, that just pop up as you run around, will be just as strong as the ones from your quest. There are also skeletons that spawn on cannons, and those take about 3 sword hits to destroy.

  • The skeleton spawn on Athena's was tweaked in Black Powder Stashes.

Now they have less health but spawn more often which is a complete nightmare. It was ok before (they lower the spawn rate in the early months for the same reason)... 🤷

    @MoonOutbreak

Skeletons that spawn are completely dependent on what quest level you have on your table.

Higher level quests will generate high level random skeletons that spawn. EVEN if the island you are at is not part of your quest, the skeletons will still be higher level.

Most players never notice because they always have a quest down for commendations, either for miles or for completion.

If you have no quest down on your table, then all the random skeletons will be killed by either one sniper shot or pistol shot, or 3 sword attacks or 1 sword dash.

Again skeletons are tied to what quest you have on your table.
