Another use for Gunpowder

  • Currently gunpowder has one use and that’s explosive. Was wondering what others thought of this idea.

Gunpowder can be used to make a cannon fire more hot.

After a pirate loads a cannon they take a gunpowder in hand and stand by the loaded cannon. Then they hold the Y button or KB equivalent for about 5 seconds as their pirate slowly tips the barrel to over load the cannon. The pirate tosses the barrel over their shoulder which breaks into pieces. The cannon now has a large red fuse to indicate a hot overload. When a pirate fires the cannon the shot is delayed by 3 seconds as the fuse burns. So the pirate must account for this and steady their cannon aim.

    The benefit of this?

The cannon ball travels at double the speed and straighter for a long distance before rapidly dropping off.

My thought behind this is for crews to actually want to keep gunpowder within their vessel almost like a real magazine. When pirates are approaching a target they can load the cannons, then really load the cannons. I’ve tried to find a balance with this idea and that’s after the initial shot you’ll probably not want to have a powder keg in your hands for five seconds loading a cannon next to your mates.

    Thoughts?

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 They could have it do 2 holes instead of 1 or do a larger one too. I like this as it would make gunpowder a lot more useful. This would also add in more strategy to pvp like the fire is going to. Would mega kegs do 4x the speed etc?

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 i like the idea of making gunpowder more useful but idk about this. maybe if they just made gunpowder work with the new amo boxes, you have to refill the amo boxes with gunpowder barrels

  • They actually have another use, well i use them as a speed booster.
Hold a keg over the back of ye ship, light her fuse, wait 3 seconds and drop.
Gives a small inertia boost, can cause small damage if not timed right.

Oh sure, and have them all blow up anyway, making putting kegs not in the crows nest a noob move anyway with the upcoming hand grenades we're getting soon

  • @davidhawk1 I’ll disagree on powder being anywhere else but the nest as a noob move. As a solo sloop most of the time powder in the nest for me is a death sentence. If it blows and I lose my mast in a fight I’m toast. I’m a pretty competent shot and have dropped 1 or 2 masts on a opposing galleon with their powder nest.

If players stashed powder towards the bow and it is hit chances are not all crew will die and will be able to repair the few holes. Besides if a opponent gets out front of you and brings their cannons you’ve been out maneuvered.

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 I stopped putting gunpowder in my crows long ago. Its just to easy to snipe. Gallion tends to have the most secure spot right under the stairs on the mid deck. Its not "safe" put it does mean they have to work for it to get it to blow.

  • @bigtorvol Aye aye. The art of concealment. They don’t know you got it till it’s to late. Besides who doesn’t get a little giddy when you fire a cannon at a ship hitting below the water line and it blows sky high.

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 its like an early Christmas Surprise.
