Not enjoying the game with fire.

  • Me and my shipmates really aren't enjoying the fire.
During combat there is just too much going on. It is too difficult and sometimes impossible to steer the ship, repair the ship, man the cannons, put yourself out of fire, put your ship out of fire. Focus is being taken off every other aspect and all focused on putting fires out.
    It's a mess and it's too difficult.

Same applies PVP or against Skelly ships, once they pummel you with fire the fight is over and it just becomes a long fight against fire. Not fun.

  • I love the fleetbattle its awesome but we need to run in and out to repair a little.. 🤕
    Difficult with pirates no escape
    ☠ no quarters☠
but now i have a choise scuttle or burn me boat 🥳

  • The last thing you need to worry is the fire. It takes so much time to sink your ship. Just fill your pockets with food and solve everything else before care about the fire. And remember: you can put your enemy at fire too. And If your ship os burning, your enemy takes damage too if board you.

  • You just don't know how to manage it yet. You use the word impossible. I would say practice.

It's just like when they added expanded ship damage and all the solo sloopers thought it would be the end of the world.

As a solo slooper myself, I can say that after a week, it was business as usual.

Fire is already part of my repertoire. Just gotta prioritize and pay attention.

  • Doing the fleets and skelly ships are easier with fire. If they're on fire, even a little bit, they stop shooting. When they go for the ram toss one over on them.

Me and my kid took the event fleet down in a duo sloop. It was easier than the older fleet battles imo

  • Nah, sticking with my original statement.

Just tried playing again, two sloop players killed us, while we In ferry set our ship on fire then start with the cannons. We are returning from the ferry taking instant damage from the fire then getting easily spawn killed over and over until we sunk.

    Not fun, not fair.

  • @scrubber89 it's very fair, everyone has access to fire

  • @captain-coel where do you want me to pull fire from when being spawn killed at the same time as being damaged by fire? 😡😡😡😡

  • I always wonder to myself where the people who make these types of posts are finding so much confrontation with other players or even PvE. I solo for hours and a lot of times don't run into any kind of issues. Usually I'm the one trying to find a fight and that is almost impossible anymore.

When it comes to fire, it's not too difficult to manage it's just different. Some people figure it out quicker than others. Just like everything else that was "too difficult" when added into the game, players will adapt.

  • There is just too much. Should be as rare as a Ballist Ball.

I can start my game session off with 5-10+ just from the Outpost I load into.

  • @scrubber89 hit them first. That's what I would do.

If you've been killed and your boats on fire, you deserve to lose.

Just remember fire should be the last concern

  • Adding fire in game is just one step to make this game more and more PVP oriented it is no more PVP/PVE game. More players are entering game just to chase someone on sloop and kill after it repeatedly spawn killing.

Developers should be more attentive for new pirates, not hardcore players.

I am PL for a long period of time and the state of cases is still like it was year ago, you pushed to play PVP, or if you want to escape PVP you will spend 40 minutes running from brig on your sloop. And it brings no fun at all. I even don't want to speak about xbox opt out in adventure.

Sea of thieves gives no chance to make mistake, for people who like challenge it is benefit, for people who want to relax it is torture.

So just let's make it clear - Sea of thieves is PVP and not friendly for new players

  • @venvip1983 Why on earth should Sea of Thieves be designed for people to relax? This is a pirate fantasy game, not a yacht simulator.

This game is primarily PVE or PVP based on the person. Some days I attack every person I see and take their stuff, some days I go on voyages and work on my commendations.

Honestly this blows my mind. A "Pirate Legend" who wants the game to be relaxing with no challenge.

    Flameheart is gonna roast you.

  • @venvip1983 Actually the best way to escape pvp (this works in my experiences very well) is to board that brigantine when it is out of harms way of your ship, kill its inhabitants (this is most likely easier than boarding), then torch their ship, drive it into an island, and make it never get close enough to your ship to even be a problem. If you are a Pirate-Legend and are having problems dealing with brigantines while solo then you need to work on your combat skills. Look getting chased is honestly quite fun as it is a time to sharpen your skills with long ranged sniper shots, boarding, etc. It gives way too many chances to make mistakes. I cant tell you how many times my solo sloop should of been sunk but I manage to win because of how bad the other crew is and how OP the sloop is. If you are having trouble solo-slooping or at the game in general I think you should just get better at it by experience. Arena sloops is a fun way to get better at hand to hand combat if you don't focus on the chests and go out of your way to attack everyone. Good Luck.

I heard your point of view.

But honestly there are a lot of people who just want to make their voyage in relaxed manner. SoT as developers are saying PVPVE game, but being honest it is PVP just without frag counter.

Reading comments of people who advise improve skills and bla-bla-bla... makes me feel as if I am on forum of Pro-Gamers Champions and casual gamers have no rights to share their way of thinking. SoT it is not battle simulator.

Developers are trying to bring new gamers into their game. But for new comers facing unfriendly society of gamers in session will give frustrating feeling about this game.

  • did a lot skelifleets solo they are easier now than with cursed cannonballs ...i really like the fire and using them on forts/oos or even pvp is so much fun

  • I see how fire that damages you on spawn can be frustrating, but you a water source, both in and out of the ship (if anchored).

It also is a deterrent for those who would board your ship and spawn camp you, as they would die to the fire. So it kind of evens out.

It makes the sailing part of the game a little more important, as those who do not want to engage need to sail correctly, using wind and especially land to deter engagements.

I’m not new and I totally agree.

Just as an example - the other day we didn’t have squat for supplies their was a Fleet doing FOTD.

We tangled with them for a second and we’re out manned out gunned.

So we cruised over to Plunder. Grabbed about 15 “Fire Balls” went back and burnt both their ships down in about 30 seconds.

We would never have been able to knock out a Fleet so Quickly and easily before fire and we knew we could get at least 10 fire balls and burn them just from stopping at any Outpost or if we saw some barrels floating.

I like the fire but is is way to available!

Needs the same spawn rate as a ballise ball!

  • @venvip1983 but fire is great vs skellies(forts), and skellies ships which are both PvE, with fire update its super easy to clear normal forts, and sink fleets...fire makes a massive difference, also in PvP the fire does not really do enough damage to really impact the outcome unless on low hp, you can pretty much ignore it for a long period...

  • @scrubber89 Dont worry about the Fire. Just patch your holes and keep good fruit. Fire should be the last thing you try to Fix

  • @scrubber89 Sounds like Fire Isnt the Issue. With or without fire if you and crew mate die and enemy boards ship, your chances are slim to none. Fire is just a distraction. Ive noticed lately a lot of ships i kill would rather whine and complain instead of fight back. The more you fight and engage in these battles the better your choice making will be. Be more aware of your surroundings and get ships to fight your style of fight, not theirs.

  • @uribedh the rewards for what? i make more gold then i ever did, more doubloons then i ever did... so if i still could get rep i would get that more too

The problem is that i have lterally nothing to soend money on untill the 11th and then on the 11th i wont have anything to spend money on untill the next update...

  • There is too much to manage in this game now. Its gone from a fun pirate adventure into a pirate simulator. It is no longer fun for me and my 3 crews. We have all left the game.

  • On the contrary, fire is a perfect counter against gunpowder. It's opened new doors to strategize how you fight players. I love lighting up player masts and watching their ship explode with flames

  • I find fire a good thing and im a solo player mostly.

Ive snuck on ships and set their ship alight like an assassin.

When im fighting a fire galleon i usually leave one hole in my hull so i can quickly douse and manage everything else, its a good strategy. Quicker than pulling the lever, buys you extra time.

Do this and see if it helps and maybe you will come to appreciate the mechanic a bit more.

  • The main thing people should realise when their ship is on fire is that it is no threat to the ship AT ALL unless you let it build up for 5+ minutes... i solo’d the ashen fleet without issue and 90% of the time they shoot fire bombs....

Fire is an anti personal weapon, not an anti ship weapon its as simple as that, if people would stop panicking and just keep a level head they would see this.

  • @scrubber89 only skelly fleets use fire, and fire really isnt that hard to deal with. i recomend watching tips and tricks videos relating to fire, sometimes it can even be usefull to set your own ship on fire

  • I'm sure that Rare will turn down the abundance of Fire at the next update.

They did the same thing with CC's when they launched them. Seemed like there were 4 or 5 in every barrel. It's just because they are new game mechanics that they are so prevalent.

  • @d4m0r3d ive done that before set the front of my sloop on fire and sailed directly at a player brig :D watched the players log out via spyglass as i got close to their boat at the island was laughing soo hard they had a ton of loot too
roughly like 10 skulls bunch of ashen chests couple keys and other odds and ends
won the fight with only 1 fire bomb and it was used on my own ship by me

  • @scrubber89 90% of my gameplay is solo slooping it was rough at the start but i started watching vids for tricks and ive gotten alot better then i ran into the pvp issue... i mean first 30 mins of my first session and i was sunk and my first loot haul stolen
now im able to sink others take their loot as a proper pirate would
then i wanted to start pvping galleons and i watched Beardageddon and omg what a god at solo sloop pvping
started using tricks he does and ive started to sink 4 man galleons as a solo sloop :D and the fire is literally just a nusance carry 1 bucket of water on u at all times leave some water down below when ur in a fight leave 1 hole in ur boat for easy water access and the biggest help ive seen stated her DONT PANIC it literally takes 3 fire bombs + the entir timer of the damage over time to actually kill u thats at least a min or so theres no reason why u cant eat a food a couple times during that timer
panicing only makes it worse practice more engage in more fights with other players dont give up and u can earn far more of that pirate booty than u ever realized u just need the time and experience which will come with practice i belive in ye fellow pirates now get back out there and send them scurvy bilge rats to meet davey jones raises grog on toast arrr mateys

  • @wowarchershirou you can also use them in kraken fights when the kraken blockes the lower deck, you just set fire to the lower deck and then you can still bucket water out of the ship by just throwing it on the flames

  • @d4m0r3d :O never thought of that thats brillant

I was hoping there would be an LT for the water barrel to suck water out back to the ocean, this works too!

  • I'm not a fan either!
