Ok sooo... Let's talk about gambling.

  • I have requested a sort of liar's dice or pokerish type of game since the begining. I know many of us have wanted it as well. I even thought perhaps making an in game trading card game would be cool to if gambling is the issue. I dream of a day when I can sit in a tavern and sit at a table with my grog. Put a gamblers mark on the map like a reapers mark. When Rare would release emote packs for gambling at the emporium. A faction I can build reputation with to signify how good of a player I am. And a new item added to my inventory my dice or cards. I understand that we don't want to change the rating of the game to mature. But is it gambling if you gamble your chests and skulls? Is there any way we can enable this without technically doing it? By adding a deck of cards or dice and the stuff I mentioned above into the game. Does that qualify it as gambling? Perhaps you beat me in the game and my buddy comes up behind you and blunders you in the head. And we still take the loot you and I offered on the bet. Was there ever "technically" a transaction made here other than a handshake agreement between two pirates? What is stopping this from happening? And does anyone else have more ideas for the potential "gambling" mechanics of the game?

  • The biggest issue i have with gambling is that crews will at some servers just gamble and not actually play the game so the server would end up dead even if it got max crews on it.

Only reason i would see it work without hurting anything else in the game is a entire new mode where you queue into a tavern and you can't leave it and you are there only to play games with others.l

  • @itz-majman I totally agree. I thought that maybe allowing players to "place bets" by using their loot. It would entice players to first gather loot, then head to the tavern. At which point the other players on the server would know the tavern is "active" and could assume they are gambling loot. Making it a great time to ambush the gambler's. The thing is if you make a mode for poker as an example. That means the developers have to list it on the esrb rating as Mature I think. Where as if you put a card game in the game with no betting mechanics, and let players dictate themselves how it's played. It could be a good work around right?

  • @itz-majman or maybe we could gamble aboard our ships rather than a tavern. Perhaps a gamblers flag? Maybe that would be a way to keep the servers more alive?
