Fort of the Damned vault was empty

  • My buddy and I on a sloop sunk a brigantine at the fort of the damned. They had Greymarrow spawned and we quickly killed him. We decided to hold onto the key and run because the brig had spawned with the wind and was barreling down on us already.

After about 30 minutes of maneuvering all the way West followed by sailing to Morrow's Outpost on the East edge, my buddy and I took turns cannoning onto the outpost to start the Shores of Gold talltale. With the shroudbreaker equipped, we quickly headed north into the devil's shroud and raised sails 1/2 way to the island and watched out opponents sail back and forth for about 20 minutes. we then chilled at the Shores of Gold for about 30 minutes and sailed out.

They were still waiting, and managed to sink us. Luckily we had a lot to pick up and managed to catch them again and sink them. my buddy had died and watched all 3 of them log off so I knew we were safe and we headed to the fort of the damned again.

I may have been off on the times but I believe all in all this whole ordeal took about 1.5-2 hours. We DID NOT server merge this whole time. When we reached the vault we quickly checked the horizon and since it was clear we opened the vault. it was empty.

In hindsight I guess we could have checked our map to see if the reaper's chests were still there, or looked through the floorboards before opening but we had no reason to believe there wouldn't be any treasure inside. I'm assuming this is either a glitch or a timed reset of the island, either way I dont think this is an intended mechanic and I wanted to bring it to the dev's attention :) thanks for reading my story!

  • @captainjedbeard this is a common bug since a few months, also in the regular forts...until it's fixed I'd suggest, before you open it, look from upstairs into the vault, if the loot is there or not...

  • It probably reset because you spent such a long time running. You wasted an hour and 20 and then got sunk and had to sail back to sink them, THEN went back to the fort. Yeah the island reset.

loot can despawn upon placing the key. so looking thru the floor boards won't help.

my team and I scienced it last night. loot disappears 2 hrs And 10 min after spawning. if u place key in the ten minute window after the 2 hour mark the Loot will disappear upon placing key.

we don't typically do the fort but we spawn the skull to encourage server hoppers or Tucker's to join are server. the hoppers generate good PvP and the Tucker's are easy salty kills.

It will help...you see if the loot is still there or not...if not, you start it again and open the vault without finishing the fort...
