Whirlpools

  • Occasionally a whirlpool will appear in the world and if unlucky enough to be caught in its vortex, will slowly pull your ship to its centre until it falls inside and is destroyed.

To survive you can do the following....

    1. Keep one guy angling sails as the other steers away from the whirlpool.

    2. If you are solo and its not possible to man the sails like such, drop multiple kegs in the water. The explosions will disrupt the vortex and the whirlpool will dissipate after 3-6 explosions (Size dependant).

    3. The best option...Avoid them altogether. Keep an eye on the waves, if they’re rippling like crazy chances are there is trouble ahead.

These whirlpools need not be your enemy though.
Sloops being the nimblest of ships can effectively lure the bigger galleon and brigantine to their doom!

The more sails and bigger the ship is, the harder to escape its pull.
This will give sloops a unique ability, to dance around whirlpools using them as a tactic to escape or even kill bigger more well equipped crews.

Unfortunately however, any loot lost in a whirlpool is gone for good.
Meaning whirlpools will be better used to escape as any loot will be lost along with the ship. Also mermaids wont go near the things understandably.

I believe so and it would

  • I don't know if most people could handle the stress of it but it sounds like a fun idea.

I guess you mean a maelstrom... A whirlpool is a little too small to cause trouble for a ship. xD
