I’ve been looking in the art book recently and saw a piece titled the blind leviathan. It was basically a huge angler fish monster. And while that could be a pretty bare bone concept, I think it has a lot of potential.
Here’s how I think it should work.
Basic Behavior: When it spawns, it won’t make a noise, it just shows up. The thing won’t go after your ship, it will go after players but has the ability to damage your ship to get to you. It can use its light rod on its head to shine like loot in the water.
Stalking: the leviathan will follow you from a distance. It will very rarely pop out of the water. The only way to tell it’s coming is to listen to the rumbling in the water.
Attacks: if you fall off your boat the leviathan will come straight for you, most of the time it will insta kill you just by chomping down on you. Because it’s blind, it has high hearing, meaning that if you are repairing holes on the bottom deck, it uses it’s light rod as a saber to impale you, not killing you , but it can increase the holes size. Another attack I had in mind was if you harpoon it thinking it’s a piece of loot, it pulls the harpoon in and bites your ship (making the previous attack devastating).
Loot shine mimics: the leviathans main tactic is waiting for a crew to let their guard down. It would use its light rod to mimic the shine of loot. Most crews don’t grab the loot in the water if something’s going down. Therefore making it a surprise attack
Summary: the leviathan should be a threat that can be fought or just ignored using the right tactics a the right time.
