I always felt that there should be some greater purpose for the mermaid gems to give them a higher sell value.
What if there was a treasure item that had three sockets that you could dig up or find, and if you had all three of the mermaid gems, being emerald, ruby, and sapphire, you could slot them into the treasure piece to make the overall value of the item worth more upon selling it.
The item could end up being worth 5000 gold or more upon filling every socket with a different gem.

How much do you think would be a fair sell value for something like that? 7000 gold?

Deep, DEEP down on the ocean floor could lie mermaid chests in either blue, green or red. Use the corresponding gem to open the chest to double or triple your money. The chest could contain 3 random gems or the same colour as the chest.
IMO the mermaid gems should be updated along with a whole update of mermaid stuff opposed to a bilge rat update. Although a temporary change until then wouldn't go amiss.

To add to that idea, doing this would be a gamble! Sometimes you could lose money on the deal...
Sell the Mermaid Chest as is, and it will give you 5k gold plus rep to any company, but use your gems to unlock it, and you could potentially get three times that, or you could get robbed for a measly payout that is less than the value of all of your gems and the chest!
I would love that, it would make things interesting!
@chronodusk yeah definitely some real risk and reward type situations would make the game feel that little bit more diverse but your actions would really have weight like taking the wrong turn in a pvp fight.
@bloodroke That's a cool idea! What if when this item is socketed it's also marked with a reaper's mark and you are given a delivery location too? I just think high value items should have a pvp risk to it. (also, raise the sell value to like 15K?)
