Offline Mode

  • Any chance of an offline mode being added during an Update. Although SOT is great fun to play, sometimes it would be nice to be able to explore the world and take on in game quests and enemies at our own pace.

  • Have you searched the forum for similar topics or do you really think nobody came up with this already?

  • We might get private servers in the future but from what I've heard there would be no progression and it would mainly be for streamers hosting events... but yeah nothing has been confirmed

  • What's the point of grinding to pirate legend from only playing offline without the danger of other pirates? Defeats the purpose of the game.

An offline mode where you can only explore and do Tall Tales but can't level up or earn gold seems more plausible.

  • @heavyweaponsrm afaik there is only timelimit on MA quests

  • Sea of thieves would be pretty boring without the pirates.
Not only that, all you could do is sail solo, alone and on the tiny sloop.

Perhaps they could make AI pirates but to be clear, this would need to be offline only with no progression to prevent people making farming servers.

However, so much work to do something that is kinds against the vision of the game...i dont think it would ever happen.

They’d have to put staff to work on this, taking them off other things like bug fixing. All just to please a very small part of the community.

I dont see it ever happening unfortunately. Would you rather not just play online and sail in unpredictable seas?

  • There is zero chance of there ever being an offline mode. The game is designed as a client-server architecture, and has many different systems that it interacts with that cannot be run offline.

For example, your progression (purchased clothing, reputation, gold, etc...) is all stored and managed by a separate server from the one you are playing on. This is why sometimes you'll hand stuff in and not get gold; the account server is overloaded and not sending the notifications to your client. In order to have an offline mode, this would need to be moved to run on your local system (and then if your save file got wiped, you'd lose all progress). Not an easy task to move this to run locally.

All of the ship physics and enemy AI are run on the server. It's unlikely that they would be able to offload this information onto an XBox or a min. spec. PC without cutting a lot of content and/or rewriting the entire game.

no it's a shared world so it's never going to happen

  • I agree. Solo offline would be awesome. Can't stand playing solo and then some trolls team up on you. There should an option completely unrelated to online. Or perhaps a friend's only mode. Let the trolls play with the trolls

  • @afroedninja ?
