Kraken encounters

  • Hello,

Before i start, this is what my friends and have i have experienced in the last 24h with maybe 8h of it in-game. So i'm not sure if some others encountered this as well.

So, to start of, as i said my friends and i have encountered a whopping 9 kraken in 8hours of gameplay.. 2 were even back to back with maybe 30 min - 1h in between. We're all rather new to the game and wish to enjoy the game as it is an amazing fun game, except the kraken attacks. But at this moments we're all feeling rather iffy to even get back on the game as we can't really enjoy our game as of now since it's: Load ship with supplies, go on emissary, leave trade post, kraken, die, repeat...

I do understand that it shouldn't always be a walk in the park, but at this rate of kraken assaults, we can't even enjoy any content of the game and it becomes rather exhausting and not fun to play.

I've tried to look for solutions and stuff, on how to beat it, but every time i find something and try it, it most of the time has no success.

Maybe we had very bad luck in the past time, maybe it's meant to be this way (which i hope not). But besides the kraken, again, this is an amazing game!

As stated before, this is our personal experience in the game so far. (sorry if my grammar isn't perfect as English is not my native language.

    Kind regards!

If there are no event clouds in the sky, then the next world event will be a kraken. Watch the sky to see if there are any world events (forts, skelly fleets) and if there are none, sail near islands, and don't go out into the deep water. Literally sail at your own risk.

  • @no0dl3s001 9 kraken in 8 hours is absolutely crazy. You'd have to be intentionally trying to get krakened for numbers like that.

I usually get one...maybe two kraken spawns on me in an 8 hour session. Then again, I rarely sail across open water. I tend to island hop. And as @SuperSnipper60 said, if there is no skull cloud or ship cloud in the sky, stay away from big open sections of water.

  • my guess is it was a quiet server with probably you and one other ship. That other ship was likely farming events.

So every time they would complete an event, you would sail into open waters and get Krakened. this would make sense given the time frame and rate of encounters that you describe.

  • @xx-mirth-xx I'm not intentionally searching for krakens. Why would i when i don't like them tbh.. Now i just did another 2-3h session and followed upon Snippers advise. I did not encounter any kraken this time. So i assume we were at the wrong places at the wrong times i suppose. And very unlucky... So a big thanks to @SuperSnipper60

I don't think he was actually suggesting that you are. Follow the advice he and others gave in this thread and if you DO NOT see one of the event clouds in the sky:

    Keep away from open water!

The strat for escaping them when they do get you:

The minute you realise you’re in the black water, raise your sails fully, and turn the ship 180 degrees. Turn the wheel straight and drop sails and then sit below deck. You should be out in less than 30 seconds (quicker if you angle sails).

If it wraps the ship, get on cannons. The head of the wrapping tentacle will be directly in front of one of your cannons, and one or two hits to the tentacle head will make the arm unwrap your ship.

If it slaps you, make sure to adjust your course, so that you are facing exactly the direction you came into the black circle from.

On a sloop this is super easy, and works because when the kraken spawns, more of the circle spawns in front of your ship than behind it.

  • @no0dl3s001 keep an eye on the sky. If there is no fort cloud or no ship cloud, the kraken can attack. (Note: this does not include the FotD skull)

  • @generalbuckfoi

Thank you for the advise. I'll try this next time when i encounter the kraken again.

  • Honestly this sort of thing is what made me stop playing last time, jist came back to it a few says ago after months and months off...

Not so much Krakens, but megs and skelleons, I swear I couldnt go more than 15-20 minutes without them spawning, VERY often back to back, and more than a few times I had them simultaneously, nothing worse than being on a sloop and having a skeleton galleon (sloops werent around then), fight them off, then get instantly jumped by a meg

  • @no0dl3s001 Someone was definitely farming forts and fleets on your server! :D Wonder if it was my crew. XD
