Where's the TDM game mode?

  • When SoT first launched I saw the potential for multiple pvp game modes and I was psyched for that potential. Basically the SoT sandbox itself has so much potential the the Dev team never delivered on.
Personally, I think the most fun to be had in SoT is island battles, and when the game first launched I saw the fun that could've happened with one simple game mode.
4v4 Island based team deathmatch. Or 4v4 capture the chest. The sot player-base woul've been so much greater had this been the original intent of the arena. This game philosophy is the foundation to many of the successful pvp games on the market today and in the past. Halo, CSGO, Rainbow Six, Battlefield, COD the list is perpetual. A game mode that existed and strives since the beginning of competitive video games. 2 teams fight to the death. Simple and effective.
Instead we got... a double failed arena; nothing good nor fun. But now I guess the players can make this game mode themselves and when they do they'll play it more than Rare's lackluster arena mode :/ how lazy of Rare.

I'll be sitting out with the other 99.5% of SoT purchasers.

I'll be sitting out with the other 99.5% of SoT purchasers. For the last two years I watched you show up now and then to gripe and moan about how this game doesn’t suit you. You often insult Rare, the general player-base, and the game for some reason. You swing back and forth between loving the game and apparently hating it.

Just state what you would like to see. “I think a 4 vs 4 TDM mode between islands would be amazing!” You don’t have to dip your ideas in bitterness and sprinkle it with petty digs on Rare.

  • You caught a ban somewhere along the way too lol.

There should be a general Death Match mode in arena. I don't really want to play speed adventure in arena.

  • @boomtownboss

    Deathmatch?

Blegh! I'll stick to Adventure mode.

  • Sea of Thieves is not a competitive shooter like any of the examples you gave. There are no headshots and the tickrate isn't good enough to even compare to those.

I'm sure it's a fun diversion but trying to force TDM into SoT is like trying to force sailing into CS:GO. Rare has tried to focus on the strengths of the game with their PvP offerings, it's been lacking so far but I think it's a tough one for them to deliver on given the issues I've already mentioned. The focus for Arena, IMO, should be on naval battles, as that's where the game really shines.

  • @boomtownboss

The game was based on PvPvE open world games like DayZ, Rust and Eve online and not the likes of Halo, Counter Strike, Call of Duty or other FPS games.

Euhm... wrong genre? Maybe before you assume something do some research?

  • @boomtownboss no need for TDM. Doesn't seem like people agree with you either unfortunately.

  • I think a land based TDM only mode would be fun for something different, and provide an avenue to people who want to practice their gun/sword skills, but there either won't be a big enough demand for both it and Arena at the same time.

TDM would either be more popular because it's more accessible (no ship or crew dependence) or less popular because every video for this game showcases ships fighting.

Given the low pop for Arena already with just the Galleon/Sloop split, I don't know if splitting that up further would be the best idea.
