Body Armour (Known as a Cuirass)

  • An idea for a new loot item you can find in places such as vaults, some forts and in the beach.

There are 4 types of cuirass you can find.
    Bronze
    Steel
    Silver
    Gold

You can sell these items or you can use them.
There are pros and cons for wearing them however.

    Starting with the pros...

Cuirasses will basically be a body armour for you.
Each cuirass has a different level of protection (its not much).

Bronze cuirass allows you to take 1 shot or 1 slash damage and after that it will crumble off you.

    Steel has 2

    Silver has 3

Gold has a pretty cool 4 hits til it breaks.

Once a cuirass has depleted its uses it simply crumbles off and is unusable and unsellable.

If you are hit by a cannon blast you will still die instantly.
The only exception is a gold cuirass. You will survive 1 hit but your cuirass will be destroyed instantly and you will have 1hp left.

If you fire a pirate out of a cannon wearing armour and it hits a ship, it destroys the armour, but impacts the ship like he was a cannon ball. The pirate will be on low health however.

    Now for the cons...

    You move slightly slower...

You cannot jump very high so its harder to sword jump lunge...

You also cannot float or swim, so if you fall overboard in your ship you will drown.

You cannot unequip a cuirass whilst in water either. So you need to really think about the situations you use it. If a pirate blunderbuss shoots you overboard you will drown.

It might be a fun to experiment with these things.
In a way, they could be like the ship equivalent to cursed cannon balls...but for humans not ships.

    Thoughts?

  • Body armour seems like a crutch. I like pvp in sea of thieves because you both have access to the same weapons, equipment, food and health. adding body armour to a pvp environment seems to give players an unfair edge.

And moving slower in a game such as sea of thieves is never a good idea. Especially if the armour is one hit. You tank one hit to get hit 2 more times. Doesn't seem like a fair payoff.
And the armour that lets you tank 2+ hits is just unbalanced to say the least.

I don't think body armour has a place in Sea of Thieves as there's a balance to how pvp is fair. For example, having better food than someone tips the balance but not by too much. But having armour that can tank or nullify entire combos just seems way too overpowered...

  • Armor light enough that you can move never stopped solid shot, only arrows and sword swings.

Armor heavy enough to stop solid shot from a musket would not allow you to move.

Hence why full plate armor dropped off in use as muskets became more common.

Realistic points aside, the game engine simply cannot work with detecting shots to a specific part of the body. A shot in the toe is the same as a shot to the head. So what you are asking for is chest protection visually but full body armor coding wise. That simply will not do.

Its not unfair though because its no different to having a ship with cursed cannon balls and a ship without.

Its also only 1-4 hits depending. So i disagree that it would be a clutch.
It would add variety and also add new tactics such as knocking them overboard and drowning them.

Having 4 grace free hits is hardly being a tank. Thats even if you have gold which is rare.

Most cuirass are 1-2 hits. Hardly OP.

It doesnt need to detect shots to specific body parts.
It just gives you a free damage free hit between 1-4 depending on the item.

  • @daringclarky in that case, hard no from me on that idea. You are making something that literally negates all skill in combat. If people had to aim at areas it didn't cover, I would say it is still balanced. Tanking 4 out of 5 of someone's ammo though... that is the definition of tanking hits.

  • @kommodoreyenser Lets agree to disagree bud.

  • I'd just like to mention that gold is not a very durable metal, remember minecraft, its easy to form but can't withstand a lot of damage.

Personally i'd like to see an expansion to the health regeneration. Cooked food can regen health so I think certain edible items or Rare's original idea of potions should give damage resistant or extra breath underwater. This way it keeps in line with Rares ideas for the game amd expands on already existing features instead if adding more with more potential bugs.

The realism of it doesnt really matter in a sea being roamed by undead skeleton galleons and sub aquatic mer folk.

Bronze, silver and gold are often used in many video games where gold being the higher value and most protection.
    Prime example, Runescape.

    Regardless though it matters little.

Regarding bugs and what not, focusing on existing features etc, why even bring that up?
Whats wrong with posting an idea that isn’t about addressing bugs or improving existing features?

This is a suggestions forum is it not?

  • @daringclarky calm down mate, its not like I said "no that's a dumb idea your dumb" etc.

If you look at my topics you'll see I'm all for adding new features. I just think instead of creating a new feature for body armour you could expand on what is already there with consumables. I brought it up because I think your idea could be integrated into that.
